I would never live in a truss house unless I built it to ensure all mitigation steps were taken. I’ve seen several truss houses with gnarly wall/ceiling gaps and even ceiling failure.

One big frustration for me and other disabled wheelchair users, is most homes are not accessible. There is nothing I'd rather see more of then homes that are wheelchair friendly. Not only for people who use chairs, but also for those who had polio or other diseases that make it difficult to walk. It would also be helpful for children who can more easily help out in the Kitchen. Examples are, lower counters, low small sinks, shelves that pull down, and wide doors to the restrooms. And, instead of stairs to the entrance, paving a walkway in a slow slope would make it easier for all people who visit and live. Thank of how many people fall and trip on stairs, they are dangerous! I wish designers and builders would think about how wheelchair users can live in regular homes and make changes to accommodate. Thanks for listening.

Uplift in trusses is also an issue when solar panels are added to a large hip truss roof. This is mostly where long 2x4 rafters are supported on side-to-side cross-trusses below them, and the rafters are just fastened down with an upward-facing toenail from the truss below, and not with a block and a couple A35F clips, or similar, showing prior Uplift load design consideration. A toenail is fine for normal gravity download forces, and normal broad windloads, but not 150‐300+ lb. uplift point loads right above it. Solar Panel installation companies are usually run by Electrical Contractors hiring remote online 'discount' engineers if the City requests an Assessment and Calcs due to the local Wind zone. The Solar Contractors have installers and office staff who are often clueless when one mentions the engineering 'Load Path', as I have found out. Uplift on my own 9 rear solar panels (covering 200 sq ft) over the Kitch/Fam/dining 'Great Room' was calculated at 4100 lbs. total, with local design Vmax=120 mph and prevailing winds from the North. Tiles lift up and chatter at 45+ mph winds, and wind pressure in the attic and over the ridge lifts the downwind (usually south) roof sheathing, so actual tile roof deadload weight alone (about 21 psf if no heavy mech./misc in the area) cannot be counted on in a windstorm 75+, hence the Code-required traceable 'load path' below each panel footing, theoretically tying it down to the foundation. An upwards toenail is NOT going to hold that added panel uplift force down, and all it takes is a strong 3 second gust at just the right angle to open up the roof like a sardine can. The wind and rain can then do much further damage. Please do a video on this issue, since it is often missed by solar companies, engineers who do not physically inspect the attics (as is common, post-C-19) or who are not 'hands-on' familiar with wood framing (thus sending weird details that do not even apply!), and by City inspectors without a journeyman carpenter and/or engineering background [...like me] that is often needed to recognize an overlooked structural issue. Usually an Electrical 'combo' City inspector is sent to inspect Solar Installs, so they may also overlook missing Load Path (downwards) connections inside the attic of added stabilizing blocks, clips, and/or small straps, including rafter to truss, truss to topplate, and truss-to-truss, or angled braces, for Load Paths that jog sideways or that need to be spread over 2 or 3 trusses to stay within deflection limits and not overstress the wood. The roof ply is not considered 'structural' when it comes to bending Uplift loads of load paths, and it is treated more like posterboard. Visioning the Load Paths like a string on a roof-level (red?) balloon at the panel footing's point load and following the 2x framing downwards and tied to an anchorbolt at the foundation makes the Load Paths easier to figure out. It also always follows the stiffest members. Ensure the connections exceed the calculated uplift including nearby contributary loads from adjacent panel footings, and that the cross-truss top chords can handle multiple point loads and maintain the <L/240 deflection limit (0.1" in 24"); it may need a 2x sistered to that chord. Gravity Deadloads are rarely an issue with today's lightweight (3 psf) solar panels. "Structures" hold up things, not tie them down. These gravity loads are what are approved as 'Structurally Adequate' prior to Plan Check. Often a Detail Sheet of common 350#+ load path connections is (wisely) included in the Plans with a note to "Verify (ex) else add" [...as applicable] below the solar panels and over to the next adjacent structural member. Load paths in existing construction (i.e. truss engineering design and connections mostly unknown) usually cannot be verifed until the panel footings are placed, and marked from below with a shot of bright spray paint. It helps to also mark/color code Verified (ex) vs Added Load Path Connections for the engineer's and City's inspection, and to show due diligence by the Contractor. In high-wind areas, the Project Engineer should provide a stamped letter verifying the jobsite's Load Paths and framing stresses in the area of work are adequate for the calculated additional wind uplift forces PRIOR to the Final Inspection, along with any added calcs and 'as built' details, with a copy given to the City Inspector for their permit records, and another to the Property Owner to keep with the House records (FYI: Permits belong to the House, not the current Owner nor Contractor). This ensures the roof will survive the next big windstorm (below the hurricane-level design limit), and if not, the Engineer's Liability insurance covers any related damage, which helps speed up repairs. If wind damage to the roof is a concern, it makes hiring a good established and local Structural Engineering firm with extensive wood framing and truss design (& repair!) experience in "Uplifting" Earthquake or Special Wind Regions worthwhile. [Note that Civil Engineers can calculate forces on wood framed homes, are mostly trained in predictable steel and concrete design.] Please link to the new ' Hip Truss Roof Solar Wind Uplift Load Path Errors & Fixes' video from this one, so more people are less likely to lose a roof in this era of Climate change. :-)

In todays labor and materials markets, the SIPs are about break even. But as an advanced DIY (I’m a Construction Engineer, with Code certifications), the fact that i can get the exterior dried in a little over a week if I hire four helpers, and can then work inside in the dry while I do the mechanicals, electrical, plumbing, and most of the interior, and then cut in all of the wall penetrations, in the spring when it is nice out.

I would never recommend anyone getting in the trades unless it's union. Never ever ever get the construction trades. The will not pay a livable wage, haver zero benefits, and zero retirement. Listen to all the people who have worked for years in the trades. They a regret except for the union trades.

You already are providing a ground floor restroom. Add two capped off drains. Space becomes available for larger home, commercial space for the unit or to rent out, or as studio apartment. Drains for shower and kitchen sink for studio apt., wash stations for small hair salon, or soup and sandwich cafe are already available. Let ground floor space evolve over time, as demand changes. Slight inset from second floor face of building allows short boxwood or roses in narrow planter box to keep passerby a couple feet from ground floor when used as living space. Remove when an open to public business. Maybe there’ll be variety of uses along the block. As lower floor is always used, even as an unfinished ping pong table or rowing machine room by upstairs apartment, there’s never a vacant space look to ground floors.

dont get it confuse people, this is how the rich greedy complain and cry for help, for them shortages means, not enough pesants or low wage slaves to work, then they would throw words like skilled or advance texhnicians, while the owner make millions.

Unfortunately we are dealing with this problem after the fact. We have lived in our home for 3 years and the same areas keep cracking. They have been retaped but every winter it happens again. I’m assuming that installing f clips would be difficult at this point? Or could that still be done from the attic when they cut screws loose? Our current plan to fix it is by cutting screws loose within 12 inches of wall and installing blocking to allow the ceiling to flex. We do not currently have truss clips. Would it still be necessary to install them? I don’t completely understand the lateral movement part.
