JoeyGUI Bootleg Multi Cart Dumping
A short video showing how to backup single ROM's from a bootleg GBA multi cart. Transfer speeds ~700kbytes/second (2x faster than JoeyJr drag and drop firmware, at least 5x faster than any other leading dumping hardware).

BennVenn Lynx I Aftermarket LCD Install - Very rough guide!
Bought this and an mbc3000 cart and I am looking forward to saving an old pokemon save from my childhood and playing with a bootleg cart I came across. Really neat that it is drag and drop. I also found a custom ROM that turns a standard game boy color into a universal remote just because the hardware exists. I love the idea of repurposing old tech and knock off junk.
I remember there was a commercial game that let you turn your tv on and off, I think it was perfect dark but could be wrong. I'd recommend updating to JoeyGUI firmware and software, you can go back to drag and drop at any time. Thanks for supporting our gadgets!
I can't find any empty WRAM in Link's Awakening DX (v1.2), help?
This will work for a gba rom right?
no, there are apps that'll do it automatically for GBA. You can find them in our discord, link at the bottom of the store
So there’s a question that I want to ask: does this tool work with N64 cartridges of any region?
Yes
Any clue on why my PC does not shows anything when I plug my Joey Jr V2? Thanks

I can replace a line of code here and there, but this is not entry level coding lmao. Thanks for the tutorial though! Its hard to find this anywhere. Just ordered a battery online, but I might be trying this out one day.

How do you make a multicart menu with just text? Like a list for roms. If youc ould make a tutorial on that, it'd be great, keep it up!
Hello. I have purchased the JoeyN64 flasher and it has bricked 2 different bootleg copies of Mario Golf trying to flash a new ROM. After it fails to write a new game, the checksum shows up as bad and no longer boots. My process has been this...load up the Joey, delete the n64 ROM and eep save file, drag and drop the new ROM over, and it states an "unexpected error has occurred" and it never boots again. I have tried too many things to fix the issue to even mention in one comment. Is this a known issue with any bootleg carts so far? It would be nice if they contained a warning that you might brick a game trying to flash your own onto a cart. Thanks.
Hi, you can't brick a cart. Don't delete anything from the Joey. It doesn't work that way. If you're on the latest firmware, and your cart is supported, just drag the new rom to the joey drive and it'll write it to the cart for you. As you can't post pics or files here, please head over to our discord and post a pic of what cart you have, the debug.txt file and if your cart isn't currently supported we'll code an update so it is. See you there!
@bennvennelectronics Thanks so much for the response! I have been having trouble with Discord but I will try and figure it out. I can't copy the new ROM to the cart without deleting the N64 and EEP files it says there isn't enough room so I was forced to do it, I was wondering about that because I never saw instructions that it was necessary. Has this been seen when a cart is incompatible?
It will not run my save file on zelda on bgb. Any idea why?
Bootleg or Genuine? Did you open and clean the cart? or just put a dirty cart into the joey?
@@bennvennelectronics It may have been dirty, I tried it again and it worked a few days later. It is authentic.
Hi! Can you please provide a link to your discord or another way to contact me? I couldn't find it after a quick search.
I can't post links here, but if you go to my store you'll find a discord link at the bottom of every page
Thanks. I'll be buying. I want to be a pokemon master but gawd damn it's hard.
Where do I find the LED controller
Discontinued 4yrs ago, you can find clones of them on aliexpress or other retro stores
@@bennvennelectronics thank you I’m clearly late to the party lol. I’ll keep looking if u happen to have a dependable link that helps too
Is this compatible with Macs?
This particular firmware isn't (very outdated) but you can grab the FlashGBX software from the Joey page in my store and its fully compatible with Macs
@@bennvennelectronics Great to know, thank you so much!
Is there an equivalent of this for GBA carts?
No, the original ROM in a GBA has decoding logic which isn't in your typical flash IC
Awesome! Would the created rom file work with any flashable cart?
Unfortunately it needs the multi rom mapper chip in it, so the 369in1, 27in1 etc carts on ali are needed
wow this looks great! will it work on all joeys running latest firmware?
Yup, all joey models are supported!
@@bennvennelectronics awesome, thanks!
I have no computer skills doing code is there a faster way
You could use a patch already coded for your rom (there's a bunch of them in our discord), or you can pay someone to make the patch for you if its beyond your skill level
So what will happen if you put the resident evil 2 cartridge rom on the gb pokemon cartridge and put it on a color gb
You'd need to find a cartridge large enough, and then nothing would happen.
Hi, I'm struggling with the last step (finding the save routine) in Link's awakening DX. I put a watchpoint on A000 but it doesn't trigger the save, and when I put the watchpoint on A000-B000 it triggers but I can't really tell if I'm in the actual save routine or not : what the asm should look like ?
You'll want to follow the code back to the RET, from there you'll see the original call to the save routine and you can hook that. Post what you're seeing in our discord and we'll take a look
Hi, did you ever get this working? I'm trying to patch v1.2 of the USA DX ROM. I can't find enough WRAM and get an error on compile about the game engine's current bank location when I'm using DFBA, following Ben's tutorial.
@@JayrosModShop Hi, unfortunately I didn't pursue, I bought a cartdrige with a battery and flashed the game to it. It works like a charm with the original ROM :)
Where does the joey jr show up on phone? Is it in files

this is so beyond cool!.. im excited (gaz)
Hi, mine is supposed to arrive in the mail today! Is the source for menu still available. The first thing I see that I’d hope to change is abstracting away the saved and bitmaps directories do that they aren’t visible folders on the Lynx. Those are a sharp edge to my fragile emotions :D
The lynx side source is available, the cart firmware source isn't. If you don't want screenshots or a save folder, don't update to the latest firmware and you won't have those features
@@bennvennelectronics I think I have already upgraded since a card was waiting set up already. Presuming the file browser part has to run on the Lynx that's ok. I'm not talking about looking for the hidden flag in FAT32, but to maybe ignore the strings for those folder names or what have you.
This looks like the easiest flasher to use. It doesn't require any fancy software, and it will be perfect for testing my GB Studio game on real hardware.
Can you like record a fangame on a virgin cartidge and play in your console?
you sure can! We sell a lot of our MBC3000 carts, the most common hacks we get asked to flash are crystal clear and prism
come on.. the audio please.. i have neighbors .. and this is hell when commercials starts at 2 am... it's really not funny at all
Odd question, but could this be a way to replace saves on genuine carts?
Yes, that is the Joey's primary purpose
Can I take a Pokemon save from an emulator such as Retroarch and import the save file onto a real cartridge? How would I do this? Thanks.
I think we were just chatting in the discord but for anyone else with the same question, just drag and drop the save file and it'll transfer to your cart
@@bennvennelectronics oh yes indeed! Lol. Thanks again
Please tell me how to wire this mod.

Thank you kindly for your detailed explanation
Cool work! Updated mine with v0.8 and all works fine. I have one question. What is save support? I don't find info about this feature. Thanks!
Save support is for newer games that allow in game saves, like ONDUTY for example. Whenever you load that game on the Elcheapo, it'll automatically load up that save file for you and you can continue on.
The PAK file isn't showing up for me when I plug in the controller. I checked the mode.txt file, and PAK was already put in there. Even after manually adding a second 'PAK' into the file, it still won't read my controller pak
Turns out both the game *and* the controller need to be plugged in at the same time in order for the pak data to be read. (it also didn't help that I was looking for .pak files)
@@IceLordCryo Don't insert both a cart and controller at once. Only the controller with the game pak. PAK is all you'll need in mode and it'll show you the pak file. Please visit our discord for support, or send me an email and we'll find out what's up
can the wires be removed after flashing the new rom chip?
for that pcb type, you need to leave the wires there
@@bennvennelectronics what about for pokemon Crystal? I'd like to remove the wires after it's flashed.
The WE pad you can connect to 5v, you can't leave it disconnected. The upper Address line must be connected if using more ROM than the cart originally supported. If you're not using more, that too can be connected to GND, but don't leave it disconnected.
This is brilliant. I only wish I had one of these before my analogue deleted my pokemon gold save... Ordering one right now
Got that Java Script ready yet?
Will you ever support the TV tunner in the future?
How do you delete the save permanently?
You can copy a blank file to the device, or a save from any other game. Most games have a button combo at power on to reset the SRAM though
I have an anbernic handheld emulator, can I use this to dump the rom onto my pc and put it on the sd card of the handheld to play the game?
You sure can! in fact, there's a video about to drop in a few days doing exactly this!
Sorry, are you telling that this kit and screen can achieve a perfect scaling showing the whole image? If this is the case, please tell me how to contact you and where to do my pre-order. I have a chinese screen, it's really good if you have a broken one, but I'm still playing with the original screen because I don't like the non integer scaling. In some slow paced games with grid backgrounds like Batman Returns, I find it very annoying to see columns of pixels that are thicker than others. And there are other problems too, my chinese screen is not properly sync, constant tearing, a horizontal line scrolls from bottom to top while playing. I'm 100% sure this tearing is not a defect of the games, it is produced by my kit. My non-modded Game Gear is perfect. Thank you for keeping the Game Gear alive!
That is correct! Full screen integer scaling. You can head over to our discord and take a look in the GGHD channel for more info
Awesome! Preorder done! (I hope I didn't make a mistake when choosing the product, I found the link from Google)

does the cable you connect the flash cart with the pc/laptop come with the flash cart?
It is a simple USB-C cable. It is not included as we expect most people to have at least one at home already. We have them in store for $1.50 if you need spares
I’ve tried downloading unbound on a cart from this. Only run on my ds lite but it won’t play. Runs on gba runner on pc but not when transferred.
Unbound needs 128kbytes of Flash Save RAM on the cart. There are no bootleg carts with this type of memory. If the Unbound devs decide to remove all the unnecessary intro's, there may be enough room to patch the rom. Right now, there is no room for a patch.
@@bennvennelectronics I love you for replying thank you so much
@@bennvennelectronics would you be able to recommend a flash cart or upgrade that would work? If you guys have one I’d love to buy from you!
@@TheMercTwain I think Inside Gadgets might have a cart suitable, or head to our discord and see what others are using for Unbound?

seems it needs more work for the linux handling if you wanna update the romlist or the save files on cartridges as it did not work with the scripts from bennvenns shop... found another github users script that worked but generally running random scripts you not 100% sure are safe is dangerous
Nice, im also actually in Japan for 2 more weeks .. and i now will grab some pokemon Editions .. i got all GB/GBC Versions so far for my Collection .. but now i will grab some more to get some spare parts for the convertion to putting the german roms on it .. they are cheap here .. between 550 and 880 yen per Card.
Will this amp work when you take the audio signal after the volumen wheel and before it goes to the GBC amp? Then you should have a cleaner signal like the cleanamp pro it does.
Seeing this now hurts my soul
