Krag-Jørgensen: The Other Boer Rifle
In this video, we dive into the fascinating and often overlooked story of the Steyr Krag-Jørgensen rifles that ended up in Boer hands during the Second Boer War. While the Mauser is typically associated with Boer forces, the Krag gained popularity among high-ranking Boer officers and burghers alike, becoming a coveted weapon despite its limited adoption.
We’ll explore the history of the Krag's introduction to the Z.A.R., its trials, and the eventual orders placed by the Boer government. Using examples from my own collection, we’ll take a closer look at the rifles and carbines, their markings, and the challenges the Boers faced in acquiring and using them. We'll also highlight some of the f...

    6.5x55mm out of norwegian krags i would say would be the most accurate service rifle up until at least the 30s when the swiss came out with thier straight pulls. They still hold up well today even, very common rifle in norway.

    Great video! I wonder if the boers got any non accepted civillian rifles as well, seeing as they didn’t want/order bayonets anyhow (as far as i can recall, the only difference between the civillian and military rifles was the bayonet lug)

    • @NordicArmsAndHistory
      @NordicArmsAndHistory 6 дней назад

      Thank you!, the 1894 civillian model actually had bayonet lugs. The civillian rifle (not carbine) models all the way up to 1923 had bayonet lugs!. The main difference is a slightly thicker barrel (2 or 3mm thicker.) In the end it probably would not be a big difference for the Boers :)

    Med tanke på redigeringen/lyddesignet. så høres det ut for meg som at vidoen fryser hele tiden, med pausene i vokalen, er det unaturlig stille, særlig med tanke på at opptaket mangler litt, det er mye romklag og pusting, en lav bakgrundsmusikk ville redusere hvor tydelig det er. særlig når det er stilbilder uten lyd, bare for å bli avbrutt av innpust før fortelleren forrsetter.

    • @NordicArmsAndHistory
      @NordicArmsAndHistory 9 дней назад

      Er helt enig med det du nevner! grunnen er at jeg forsøkte å strekke ut videoen litt. I etterkant ser jeg at dette var en dårlig ide. Jeg leker med tanken om å så ordnet en veldig lav bakgrunnsmusikk. Men da må jeg passe på opphavsrett osv i fremtiden. Snakker med en som kan kanskje lage spesiellt for kanalen men dette er ikke 100% enda. Jeg lærer noe for vær video! Fram til dette er satt, sånn som neste video skal blir det forhåpentligvis bedre "Flow" i videoen. Og blir mye mer snakking!

    • @BeardedNorthBiker
      @BeardedNorthBiker 9 дней назад

      @NordicArmsAndHistory det finnes masse "royalty free" musikk som kan brukes, skulle være en smal sak å finne noe som er tema passende. Når det kommer til opptak så kommer du langt med et poppfilter, eventuelt ullsokk på miccen å skru ned gain under opptak og heller boost volumet under redigeringen. Mulig jeg hørtes litt negativ utvi begynnelsen men dette er i høyst mulig grad konstruktiv kritikk, jeg synes det er fett at det produseres kvalitets content av norsk militær historie. Litt som feks forgotten weapons eller c&r Arsenal, hvor cnr har betraktelig høyere produksjonskvslitet på mye av content et.

      At this point Norway was a poor country and had used a lot of resources on improving communications. The Norwegian government had also put too much faith in their neutrality... until the Altmark incident brought Norway into the war. The 2 coastal ships were supposed to be replaced in 1915 both were aquired by the brits... sadly both got sunk, so all we got was 2 40 year olds.
