Not making excuses for what these kids did, but almost all of them had no real parents and were themselves victims of some the worst things you could imagine. Most had been sexually abused. Most were broken emotionally.

I was a counselor on this wagon train and i remember these kids. It was crazy beyond belief!!! For thick skinned folks only . I saw numerous new counselors quit before the end of the first day. If you know, you know. Looking back, im amazed it was even a thing. Multiple daily violent interactions. I hope these kids became success stories. Most of these kids were there for very serious crimes, not misdemeanors for sure. Everyone would come out of the stores and houses waving and takiny pictures . Every small town paper, and TV news station had us on the cover and on prime time. Had a couple run ins with locals, but overall it was highly positive. I hate red ants!!!!! Oh, Bill LA fleur was the wagonmaster, former olympic powerlifter.

I was there 95,hated every minute of it,glad they shut that bullshit down, besting people’s kids up making sleep out in the rain 🌧️ like it ain’t nothing

My name is Steve Snyder and I was a counselor on the Rough Rider wagon train in 1993. Great but exhaustive experience, hard work by everyone. Sleep was with the kids in the teepee and was lucky to get 2 hours sleep. But then had 3 days off in the closest town. Had to leave for family death.

I was on the rough riders wagon train 85 and 86. Did a solo quest in ye haw junction Florida. And boot camp in Franklin PA. I remeber an old gentleman that ran the camp we called pops. Alot of memories

f this program. there was a lot of abuse and things they got away with. A bunch of bully football types instead of educating and helping the kids. PLUS A LOT OF VIOLENCE ALOWED AND I STRAIGHTENED MY LIFE OUT NOT THEM. I AM GLAD ITS CLOSED BUNCH OF SCUMBAGS
