Great vid, it's surprising what you can achieve on a budget.
100% mate best way to start off in the 12V setup and get out there 🤙 don't need more than a smart isolator and a fridge
You could have made that track I reckon. Someone needs a winch so you feel comfortable getting stuck sometimes.
yeah a big part of me was tempted, but this was after we got absolutely soaked with everything the previous night and already spent a fair bit of time checking out tracks - winch absolutely on the cards though 🤙 need to get a custom bar fitted first as there's nothing off the shelf for the Territory as it were
@@alwaysAWD nothing was available for mine either.
@@dannthenitroman all part of the AWD life isn't it haha - it's half the fun though seeing how far can push these builds with bars and such too
@@alwaysAWD just gotta get the grinder and welder out. And go for it.
Our 3rd gen rav kills it here. we live up the valley. My channel has a video of it coming out of "The bowl". GPS -32.85633927838837, 151.83365616868218
sick that's good to know - will have to suss it out! guessing the 3rd gen might have a bit more oomph than the OG as well
Well done, you knew what you were doing so you took your AWDs there. Those who plan to learn sand driving there need to do research on traction control of own car, momentum, Tyre pressure, traction boards, Rated Recovery points, safe recovery gears and training. Make sure your dream doesn't turn into nightmare.
all about being prepared, having recovery gear then giving it all a crack to build their confidence 🤙
good vid, your territory looks a lot like my susuki grand vitara. keep going mate you'll soon reach that 1k in subs. looking forward to the next one.
cheers mate the Grand Vitara can be pretty capable as well 🤙 lots more vids to come hopefully 💪
I think the guy in the Rav needs to work out if he doesn't have enough power he needs to really use the right foot. If he doesn't have the Torque use the Revs instead
mate was pedal to the metal, didn't look it but was steeper than the slope looked on cam and even with the foot pressed right down (was in the car with him on an attempt) just ran out of steam 🤙
@@alwaysAWD yep fair enough that's where low range gives less powerful vehicles that bit of xtra to do stuff like that. That's why not having low range in Territory makes up for it a bit with the Barra compared to the Rav
that's it, a tiny fourbie would have done it with low range but yeah just not having that oomph came into play. thankfully we had max trax so that made up for everything and was still a cracking day out
Thats one thing I have never tried, Beach driving. Hopefully I will get up there later this year or early next year though. Love the good ol Delica cruising there too, they are based on the Pajero but with the convenience of a van, you see some of them really decked out for camping, almost living.
definitely a destination worth locking in the calendar mate 🤙 that Delica ate up the sand like nobody's business, be an epic build i think Fire to Fork used or used a Delica too
@@alwaysAWD I would love to build out a Delica especially a Long Wheel based version to give that extra room to make it more liveable. Harry (Fire To Fork) still has it but he has not been using it for a while. He was going to leave it on the East Coast but I think it is back in W.A now for some work.
that's it would be the best of both worlds - plus don't need a truck licence like the big Unimogs a lot of other people seem to be doing lately too. Yeah been awhile since seeing it on the channel, always thought it was a cracking rig.
@alwaysAWD yeah they would be a lot of fun and they are pretty damn capable with the same basic running gear as the Pajero they can go pretty much all the same places. I lo e being able to pull up for a night and just camp from your vehicle, no swag, no tent, no stuffing around.
@@OnCountryWithMick that would be the the main goal - no fuffing around with setups. big reason i'm a rooftop tent fan - miss my old one and hopefully one back on the rig soon. but yeah Delica well kitted out would be the ultimate off grid vehicle I reckon
2:57 What the heck is a tempreeture Gorge? You mean the Temperature Gauge.. it rhymes with cage. The only thing that beats the sound of a Barra on the Sand... Is a Barra Turbo ! Yeah I think its time for the RAV4 to be replaced with a 2010 AWD Ghia!
gauge gorge haha too much excitement on the sand! loved every minute of it. haha or drop a 3SGTE into it 👀 that little rav is killer even with just a lot of right foot!
Top lil video mate 👌 Stockton is awesome, we always go for a drive when visiting Port Stephens. Looks like you guys had alot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed this clip! Cheers Ant 👍
it's a great stop over that's for sure mate 🤙 cheers! was a cracking time
AWD is the go I drive Toyota kluger awd it's just good as any 4wd
that's it - comfortable and super capable my dude 🤙
AWD is alright but let's be realistic low range really helps in certain situations.
I love this car
she goes hard 🤙
Nice. I am new to the Ford Territory (bought a 2010 SY / Barra) and I am loving it. Wanna kit it out and do some mods to make it a tourer. Do you have any recommendations for insurers that will cover for mods and the value after modification and accessories have been added?
great to hear your enjoying your rig mate! If you keep the mods light such as a 12V and under 2" then most insurers I've used in NSW shouldn't have a problem i find. I'd suggest a set of all terrains and ensuring your other driveline components are tip top before going a lift as well. If considering a lift just do 1" and see if you're really pushing it hard that more will be needed. I find that's more than enough for touring and fits any ATs wheels nicely 17/65/245 or less.
Could I do this with a completely stock territory??
can definitely do the whole track in a stock Territory! Just pay attention to the creek crossing level and you'll be right. If in doubt walk it across first 👌
Heaps of wild cats there ; brown an rainbow trout as well in the river ;
we saw a fox on another trip so there's defo some wildlife around! might have to wet a line next time we're across 🤙
As always great vid, you might want to add some overalls to your kit. well done on topping 500 subs lets get you to over a 1000, your channel deserves it.
yeah might not be a bad idea some overalls! cheers mate appreciate the support super stoked reaching on the 500 🙌 keen for more content over summer
Can’t beat mud tracks another handy thing to carry is a 3 tonne hand winch an a 4 tonne truck racket strap doesn’t take up much room but will get u out it’s slow ; but if u don’t want to put a cradle an winch on it’s good I only had a hq Ute now I’ve got a 4wd but I still carry it just in case the electric one stops working; I’m enjoying your videos
great suggestion mate - i always carry snatch straps and winch ones in case so definitely prepared to an extent! but great idea on the hand winch! cheers for support mate glad you enjoy them 🤙 many more to come soon!
#territory goals. You can turn off your belt reminder by clicking the belt in and out once fast :)
cheers mate good to know!
Like the video mate it's cool seeing the adventures you get up to in the territory just an idea u should have a look and see if you can get some e/air lockers in it front and back or maybe a spool in the rear diff probably help you a bit more but keep it up pretty cool and funny stuff mate
thanks mate! i'm sussing out a rear lokka since my last trip to Glasshouse but they don't make any front ones for the Territory so I'll see how it goes 🤙 she's a capable rig as is which is awesome
@@alwaysAWD yeah nice even just having a rear one will make a load of difference I've got a territory me self was thinking about doing the same thing and mucking around with it have a bit of fun
i feel just all terrains and maybe a small lift and careful wheel placement these cars can go anywhere - throw yours into traction mode 2 and away ya go 🤙 a lokka only ever crossed my mind after some crazy intense wheeling in glasshouse - otherwise the rig has been unstoppable everywhere i've taken it as is 💪
Excellent video as usual
cheers mate!
U need the red adapter on the plug ; what u have there is a hema socket
Good luck!
Welcome any time
😂 the dismay at having to do a repair in white pants. Please never wear anything else.
bringing the city fashion to the bush haha
Gotta love watching your content! You never take things too seriously and just have fun out there. Still gotta get myself some gum boots. Quintessential 4WDing gear. Any recommendations here? 😊
cheers that's what's it all about just getting out in nature and having a blast 👌 i just got Kmart gumboots haha they've never let me down (unless it's just user error and i go too deep)
This is cool. I prefer your reasoned/pragmatic approach with the kit you’ve got to the bullshit risks in some of the 4by content. I’d go wheeling with you blokes any day 🤙
thanks mate just trying to have some fun in the rigs we got without getting ridiculously stuck 🤙 appreciate the support!
Clarkson: POWERRRR
Are you able to share the route?
just head to Rydal 4WD area and you'll get a good idea of it 🤙
Well done mate, good to see you stayed to easier tracks and had a good weekend.
cheers mate just all about knowing your limits 🤙
First track through the creek at 2 minute mark is similar to the crossing we used to do in the front wheel drive Telstar and Falcons as well.
how good! rocky bottom helps a tonne and would be cracker seeing a Telstar come across
Like the hand brake trick
Welcome to my backyard, I live in WANG (Wallerawang) and the park and state forrest is like 5Ks from home. I have a 2009 Rav4 (AWD) that I use for my town car and I also have a Holden Colorado 4WD ute. Good to see ya having a go. I have taken the RAV4 all the way to Lake Lyell from Links Rd of the Great Western Hwy. No mods on the RAV4 and road tyres only
sweet as great to hear - the Rav4 is a cracking car and it's such a wonderful area to explore
Great vid 👌 mate Marrangaroo np is a top place to visit. Great camera work and some shenanigans along the way 😆👍 cheers and thanx for sharing
thanks mate was a great camp out 🤙
As always great vid. I had a Rav4 very underestimated machine. Weak point is the pipe running to the fuel tank, IT ROTS.
cheers mate they're such a capable rig 🤙 good to know re: the fuel tank pipe too!
Great video... Nice RAV4 Gen 1. Like your Territory too. Great AWD venture.😊
thanks! the Rav4 is a cracking machine 🤙
The Gumboot of Truth : If your feet get wet.. You don't drive it! Loved it.. Keep up the Adventuring but.. might wanna upgrade the camping gear if you cannot handle the rain.. a Decent Double swag should allow you to stay out and dry in a pretty heavy storm. Mine allowed me to stay nice, Dry and safe when my mates tent ended up folding in on itself in a 45km wind gust..
it was just the intensity and wind that was unexpected - just all part of it everything dried easy but not worth dealing with soaked stuff day one in 🤙
I like your style, when in doubt - don't. Great video.
cheers mate that's it just know your vehicles limits 🤙
Great camera work and an awesome 👌 place 👏 👍
cheers mate! keen to show everyone 🤙
As always great vid. One suggestion would be to check and maybe replace the gearbox oil and the diff oil, especially if your doing the miles (kilometres) your talking about
great tips mate that's true best to check your other oils when pushing the hard miles off-roader long distance touring 🤙
You wouldn't happen to have a GPX file for this track by any chance?
sorry mate don't have one on me! just know it from being around the area a fair bit 🙂
Awesome video! I have a similar looking car a Toyota Kluger Gen 1 2007 and this gave me a great insight into the capabilities of awd
awesome vehicle mate 🤙 great choice. just shows that AWD vehicles are super capable off the road 💪
Well done! By yourself, no spotter, and no winch is ballsy! Been there, done that, it adds another layer to the fun eh. Winches get you in more trouble than they get you out. Left foot brake works well, never used my park brake ( land cruiser thing) Can’t believe you didn’t bend a side step! Cheers
cheers mate! just giving it all a crack and happy i got as far as i did. yeah a winch probably got me into more trouble too haha
Love the wheel and tyre combo, looks like a police cruiser.👌
thanks mate bit of a Crown Vic throwback 🤙
Wow, awesome video. The Gen 1 Rav4 is a beauty. I had one if them, constant AWD with a centre lock button. Love the Territory!
cheers mate the Rav4 is a cracking car isn't it 🤙 will definitely appear in more videos as well!
Is the handbrake trick only for electronically controlled AWD systems and RWD biased? Does it work with Mechanically and Viscous controlled systems and FWD biased systems? I never knew about this before and its an awesome trick!
hmm the Territory is a mechanical constant AWD (similar to early BMW X5 too) and works great - but i don't see why it can't work on other systems tbh. the handbrake just adds resistance to the rear so the car thinks there's traction again and then it provides more power to the other wheels 🙂defo worth giving a go! mileage might vary in an electric AWD setup but i'd be interested to see too now
@@alwaysAWD I have a old Syncro VW setup that uses a viscous coupler. It’s primarily FWD until slip. I’ll give it a try but it may be that handbrake locking rear wheels does nothing in this setup. Great tip nonetheless!
i reckon it might help because if you're spinning on your fronts, locking the rears with the handbrake (do it very gradually till you feel it grip - might make another video around off-roading AWDs specifically) would shift drive forward potentially. keen to see how it goes mate 🤙
Good on ya for getting out and giving it a crack mate .
thanks mate that's what it's all about 🤙
awesome, never seen a handbrake used like that. Wise move to stop, you can always go back.
pretty nifty aye - like a mini lokka in some respects haha
Nice one dude 🤙
cheers mate 🤙
Excellent video! Using hand brake, traction control, walking the track and finally going backwards without damaging vehicle and track, just brilliant and responsible. Well done.
cheers mate! best to know your limits and the vehicle too before pushing it further than it should 🤙
That was....... AWESOME ! I think your driver's side tail lights are also out.. but it could have been the angle.. as I didn't see the brake light or the reverse lights on the driver's side. Its those THUMPS on the front end that scare me the most.. I have got to get some protection under my Territory as I am always afraid of coming down on the gear box and cracking the sump on the gear box.
it seems to be an intermittent issue thankfully the lights but good spot! lucky my front bar took most of the impact which is good just ball about wheel placement and yeah avoiding the underside contacting
Great vid mate 👍, I've done bits of the powerline a couple years ago always fun but im always reminding myself about being able to go to work the next day and do the school pickup lol so yeah I try not to flog the guts out of my 4by! Haha 😂👍
i've got a big trip this week so i understand the feels of trying to be careful 😂 good that you've given it a go that's awesome mate 🤙
