    この演奏は小澤征爾の全盛期の演奏ですね。 1980年頃の演奏でしょうか? 小澤征爾の若き日の素晴らしい演奏ですね。

Yes. I studied with him at NEC and worked in Symphony Hall 1967 - 71. I knew his playing both on and off stage especially as his student. Magnificent big sound and perfectly controlled with his steel embouchure. His reed style big factor also. Only his students knew this. He could project above the orchestra when it was playing ff yet perfectly balanced and not overbearing. I would often be talking with him backstage while he was warming up. Truly an experience that very few had. I personally consider him to be the greatest oboist of his time. I also knew his brother but preferred him to Harold. Today there are many oboists but do not possess the artistry of Ralph. I could go on and on so let me stop here. RIP Mr. Gomberg.

This must have been before 75. I say around 73. I moved to Berlin in 75 and I can remember this. Most of the members in this performance have all passed, even my 2 teachers. Harvey Siegel is still around, pushing 100 and his wife Martha. I grew up with this orch so I knew most of them. I found the orch seating then much better than now. The sound and optic are much better with orch tiers. Lovely performance.

Magnificent version! I assume that the recording of DG was done in parallel to this video. It is one of my three favorite orchestras, and above the brass section the percussion section catches my attention; In particular, I have always wondered how they achieve that brilliance and precision with the cymbals....in no other orchestra do they sound like that.

The great David Ohanian on 3rd horn, formerly of Canadian Brass. He won the 3rd horn audition of the Boston and Chicago Symphony at the same time! History shows us which position he chose.

Great Performances always to remember from great orchestras and Joseph Silverstein, concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Silverstein was my teacher for five years while I was studying at the New England Conservatory of Music. It was a life opportunity. Besides studying my violin repertoire, he always made an emphasis to work on the orchestral repertoire. He said always to me: “Juan when you play in the orchestra., always play beautiful” I have always followed his great advised.

@@corgansow6173I'll take "kind a ok", thank you. It's not like handicapping horses. The real point is that even as late as 1973 one could tell these great wind/brass/timpani sections (and by extension the orchesteas) apart!
