Welcome back to Mindful Golf, bringing you relatable, high handicap golf! I'm trying to work on my course management a little, and in particular trying to work on just one thing per round... This round was simple, can I just keep the same ball? Please?!! It might sound straightforward, but for high handicap golfers, it's certainly not a given! I started playing in October 2023 - currently a 28 ...

good but better without music mate.
Thanks yeh appreciate the feedback :)
That's some awful golf brother. Good thing is learning the game is.the best.part.of it. I was.a.30 hc last year. I'm now.off 11. Watching other high handicappers kept.me going through the grind.
Haha you're not wrong!! That's encouraging to hear you managed to cut your handicap by so much!
Well you smashed your 500 views goal!
Haha I know, unbelievable!
Good video! But the music gets annoying quite quickly.
Cheers mate. Yes you're right, I've hopefully started to improve this for the newer videos as a few people have mentioned it was a bit loud, etc :) Cheers
Glad to see your consistency is improving since the last time I saw you, well done. I noticed that your set-up from the tee looked like your right shoulder is leaning forward at times, this might account for coming over the top and slicing the ball to the right. Or it might be the camera angle 🤔. Any way good luck👍
Thanks mate, ah that's interesting, great observation... I'll take a look at that. Really appreciated :)
Perhaps you should count better, you hit 8 on the par 5 but said 7……
Haha did I?! I did the commentry after and made the mistake of not having my scorecard in front of me whilst doing it... And I'm too easily distracted lol!
@@MindfulGolf_ I’m sorry, that’s a pet hate of mine, when players don’t count their shots properly and making themselves feel as if they’re better players. Don’t get me wrong, I’m shite myself and my favourite saying is “you can’t polish a turd”…….. if it was down to being able to buy the best kit, I could easily do that but it won’t mask the fact I’m shite,😂😂😂😂
Yeh me too, I always count properly when I'm playing don't worry, must have been a mistake on commentry!! Certainly nothing about my channel is about me trying to appear a better player so no worries of that, I'm very comfortable being terrible!! haha!!
When someone is a mid to high handicapper, i think it helps hugely to understand how to aim for your handicap pars and not the course pars. Being a 28 handicap, you get one extra shot for all 18 holes, then a second shot for the hardest 10 holes on the course (the scorecard will list the difficulty of each hole 1-18th difficulty). So if a par 5 is one of the hardest holes, instead of feeling like a failure for a double bogey 7, understand that your personal par is actually a 7. This sort of thinking will help you enjoy your round much more. Another way to enjoy high handicap golf, is to count your Stableford points. If you're not sure how that works, do a search on Google or RUclips. It's important to be realistic with your golf. Most golfers aren't and that's why they spend the whole round swearing under their breath haha. All the best for your golf journey!
Thanks mate, yes I think that's a really good point... And something I dont do nearly enough!!! Really appreciate that. Might do a vid based on stableford points actually :)
Thanks for sharing pal. Nicely presented vlog. I can relate as I had my own struggles during the year, ended it breaking down, but did realise that talking really helps. Calling Samaritans, MIND and counselling helped. It is a serious thing and glad you feel better and pouring your energy now into golf and work/projects. Btw i have a similar putting green at home. Enjoy!
Thanks for the support mate, sorry to hear about your own struggles. Yes i found talking certainly helped, did a few things through talk works which the gp recommended which I found to be very valuable :)
Good watch this. Re: tee shots i'd keep the camera a bit to the right so we can see the ball clearly. Overall played pretty well there.
Thanks mate, will definitely do that, appreciate the support :)
too much music
Thanks mate, yeh already changed that for future vids 👌appreciate the heads up though 👍
I'm shit at dancing so perhaps I should set up my own dance channel, people would probably enjoy the spectacle of me embarrassing myself too. You're doing very well for views though and it's a great way to enjoy being outside - good for your mental health too. All the best. 👍♥
Haha go for it! Yep getting better at golf would just be a bonus, certainly not the main reason I play :)
Your wife is so right especially putting, maybe she can caddy for you and tell you what shot to attempt (never been done before it would be fun) and remind you to stop rushing.Good players always take their time.Oh i am not a good player but just not as rubbish as i would be if didn't take my time lol.
Haha definitely!! That's a great idea! I'll see if she fancies that!!!
Great video! Thanks
Thanks so much for watching :)
My own head is my down fall off 26.8 great up the range shite on course but glimmers off being good again keep at it pal ✊✊
Yeh it's surprising how much the head can take over isn't it! Keep going mate we'll get there!!
you cant take relief from the casual water in the bunker by leaving the bunker. thats 2more strokes bro
Hi mate, you're correct... However the day I played this round all bunkers were GUR :) - amazingly I think that's the only one I ended up in, shame I didn't end up in more haha!
Tell you what, fantastic effort sir, I applaud you, not only for playing and in my opinion well, but putting it out there for people to watch. Well done you. I have thought about doing video content myself, I may well do. Keep up the and I genuinely mean this, sterling work
Hey Nick, ah mate that's genuinely so encouraging to hear, thanks so much for such a kind comment - really appreciate it :) - definitely mate I'd give it a go, I've been so pleasantly surprised at the kind response from people (yourself being a perfect example!!) 👌 thanks mate
Hey, great video. I was just wondering as a small golf channel are their some smaller golf companies that want to send products out for you to test them? please let me know, thanks!
Hey thanks mate - ah yeh not sure to be honest, but I'd certainly be up for that... Do you have something in mind? Anyone reading that this applies to also... Let me know!
If you can do something to elevate the camera like getting a tripod or attaching it to push cart it would be much nicer.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate that, yeh I think you're right, will look into that 👌
Love these videos bro.
Loved the video bro. Awesome to relate to a golf video for once 😅
Ah thanks pal, really appreciate that 👌
Nice par-bogey-bogey! Good video and enjoying the journey… Can relate to you having scored 104 yesterday 😀⛳️
Thanks John!! Very happy with those 3 holes!!! Ah yes it's a game of ups and downs!!
Great video mate very relatable! Be class to follow you on the improvement grind
Thanks mate, really appreciate the support 👌
Nice video mate good to see a normal everyday golfer 👍🏻
Thanks mate, really appreciate that 👍
I play off 13.9 and shot 101 last Sunday. You will have good rounds and bad. Just enjoy being out there. It is only golf and you will improve. Good luck.
Thanks mate, that's encouraging to hear actually!! Cheers!
Loving the build going on, looks great!
Thanks Ron 👌
Respect… glad you’re able to push forward. Good luck with the challenge - think you’ll be flat out playing to be doing RUclips stuff!!!
Thanks John! Haha yes you're not wrong about that!!
Brilliant mate 👏 ⛳️
Thanks mate 👍⛳
I just got down from 28 to 24 handicap - Keep At it, we'll get there
Nice work mate, keep it up. Can't wait to get to 24!!!
Great first video. I played there before Christmas with my son for my birthday! Beautiful but immensely difficult championship course. I thoroughly recommend it but my score was awful! 🤣Keep it up mate.
Thanks mate, really appreciate it. Haha yeh it's a tough course, but absolutely love it up there!!! Cheers for the encouragement 👌
I've just started my golf journey & came across your video.. Like you I've had a rough time lately & taking up golf has given me a reason to leave the house & meet people (all be it at the range). I'm hoping to get on a course in the next few weeks. Who knows I may record some stuff too... Thanks for sharing..
Ah amazing, sorry to hear you've had a rough time. Good on you for taking up golf though :) nice work, best of luck on the course, let us know if you do ever record anything 👌
Keep grinding, bud. You have a lot of good things going on with your swing. And you have a great temperament for the sport. I don’t have an official handicap at the moment, but play somewhere in the realm of 1 or 2 and I can tell the tools to play very well.
Thanks mate, really appreciate the encouragement 👌
I started playing last May/June. ( I did play as a kid 40odd years ago but haven't even hit a ball in over 30 years) managed to break 100 on my 8th full round. ( have hit mid to high 90s since) It's not about hitting great shots it's about hitting shots that you can guarantee the outcome. Keeping it in the fairway and of of trouble is key to breaking 100. Course management and knowing when to "Take your medicine!" is also key. We all hit bad shots what ruins scores is consecutive bad shots. If you hit it in the rough a short chip back on the fairway is the best shot rather than trying to hit a mid or long iron at the green to make up for hitting in the rough.. At this level it ain't happening. You need to hit 100s or even 1000s of shots out of the rough to be able to be able to know when you can get one out with distance or whether you have little to no chance of even getting it out with a wedge. My putting happens to be very good (it's about he only part of my game that remains any good) My chipping and pitching was excellent (40 years ago) but I drop shots trying to be too clever. I score better with a 8 or 9 iron bump and run or a long range putt that trying to hit a 60degree wedge to pitch it 6 feet from the pin with a hop and stop. Yes I can play that 75% of the time. but the time you need it in stiff to save par is the 25% when you get under it and flop it 10 feet in front of you rather than 20 yards or worse you thin it straight through the green and make a double or even a triple.. I haven't played this year as I haven't been well but hoping to get up the range in the next week or so. I'll be working on Iron strike and shaping the ball Draw or Fade. I'll then work on Driver I hit it pretty well but short 210-230 yards. It's not bad strike for me it's club speed I swing around 90mph. My aim is to get that up to 100mph with better technique rather than more effort. My aim this year is to get close to 90.
Nice work mate, yeh you're right definitely. Especially regarding not being able to guarantee the outcome of shots, that feels like where I'm at currently! Keep going mate, best of luck getting near 90 👍
I grew up spending pretty much every school holiday in a camper van, brilliant memories.
Great stuff! Great to hear that, we’ve had lots of great memories with ours as well 👌
Lovely calming video… can completely empathise with your golf - having trouble keeping it in play off the tees & struggling to get up to the greens with my second shot (though I feel like I can putt!) We do have some lovely courses in Devon though don’t we!!!
Thanks John, really appreciate that. Oh yes I know that feeling! Glad you've got the putting sorted though!!! I'm going to go and buy a little practice mat again, sure my putting is getting worse 😂😭 Yes there certainly are some beautiful courses in Devon, love it here! Thanks again for your comment :)
@@MindfulGolf_ It's not ,you just need to heed your wife's advice .Take your time .🧎
Interesting video. Just try slowing down the back swing. It will help control the swing better. I have always swing like a looney until this was explained to me. It does work
Ah thanks mate, appreciate that. Funnily enough it was only when watching back the video that I realised how rushed my back swing looks!! Will bear that in mind at the range and try slow it down. Cheers mate
@@MindfulGolf_ Saw this comment and just wanted to modify this thought a bit. It isn't your backswing speed, it's the speed of transition that makes it appear "fast" and decreases control. If you are powering the club all the way to the top and then immediately switching to downswing, that's a violent transition and your brain can't react to any minor adjustments that need to be made. Keep your backswing speed but try feeling like you let the club "float" up through transition and let the weight of your arms and the club start the downswing. It will give your brain just a tiny bit more time to make adjustments. If you are a motorsports fan, think of it as an F1 car entering a tight curve. It's not 100% throttle, Steering to full lock as you put the brake pedal to the floor and then back 100% throttle. There's a balance that occurs between the entrance of the turn, the apex and then exiting the curve. Power the club back, navigate the curve (transition) by using momentum and then add throttle as you see the exit. You end up being more in control and will likely pick up club head speed with less effort.
That's great, thanks for the addition, very helpfully written 👍
This is unwatchable - I couldn't even finish the 1st Hole.
Try taking a couple lessons - or watch some RUclips videos. There are so many of them now. Try one of the best teachers from the U.K. Pete Cowan.
No worries mate, watching high handicap golf is never gonna be for everyone! Other channels I love with better golf are Tubes and Ange Golf life or Rick Shiels! All the best mate!
@@peterrutkowski8172 *This is unwatchable* - *I couldn't even finish the 1st Hole* Well we're all Looking forward to a video of your next round!
Great video mate! I'm around 25 hcp and related to soooo much of this 😂
Haha glad to hear it!!! Played yesterday and hit a belter of a drive right on the fairway, leaving myself a 97 yard chip into the green... Finished the hole with an 8 🤣🤣 the joys of high handicap golf!!!
@@MindfulGolf_ Good lad, someone has to be average like us! "Into the green is wishful thinking for me 🤣 my last round featured a birdie, many bogeys and a broken hybrid! Looking forward to more content, do a what's in the bag!😁 And get to the Midlands, some great courses here 🏴
Haha amazing (except from the broken hybrid part!) ah yeh will definitely do a what's in the bag 👍 and yeh would love to check out some of the courses in the Midlands 👌
I’ve been playing for two years, went from a 32 to a 26 in two years. If I wasn’t having so much fun playing, I’d give it up. Keep on man. It’s fun to watch.
Great stuff, good on you, yeh 100% all about having a good time at the end of the day 👌 thanks for the encouragement, really appreciate it
get yourself a 7 wood or 9 wood. It'll transform your game and scores.
Ah OK, not really considered either actually, will look into that 👌
Now that's golf!❤
Haha!! Yes indeed! I think the frustrations just make it all the more sweeter when you finally hit a good shot 😂
A very relatable round! Just a bit of feedback.. the music is a tad bit loud. But each to their own.
Thanks mate, yes a couple of people have said that, will make it a little quieter for the next vid. Thanks so much for the feedback 😊
@@MindfulGolf_ no worries at all pal, will continue to do so as well if it helps as at end of day we like you and want to help.
Your videos are brilliant. It's great to see a fellow beginner play full rounds, the background music is a bit too high to hear your commentary clearly, but great video mate keep playing keep improving
Thanks mate, really appreciate your encouragement. 👌And appreciate you letting me know about the music too, will bring that down a bit for the next video 👍
Great video. Enjoy watching videos of fellow Hackers 😂 Keep practising and golfing....it does get easier!
Haha thanks mate!! Yes I can't wait for it to get easier haha!
I know exactly how you feel I am the same handicap I notice you don't use your driver or fairway woods I find the get me out of trouble
I have started using a driver now, but I don't have any other woods yer, just a hybrid. 👌
Hi, new to your videos. I took up golf at 59 during COVID and I kept my first card..... I scored 143. However I got a good few lessons from my local pro and now score regularly in the 80s. I think if you aim to bogey every hole it will give you a great target to beat 90. Keep at it, you have been bitten by the bug 😜😂😂😂
Ah amazing, that's great to hear. Thanks for the encouragement 👌
I want to take vids of me with cussing and drinking with my bud😂 we play 3 times a week started 2 years ago.. he shoots mid 80s I’m just now breaking 100
Haha 😂 go for it!!!
Great video, liked and subscribed plus hit the bell icon
Thanks so much mate really appreciate that. More content coming soon :)
Really enjoyed the video, golf is a great game. Stay well and keep enjoying playing. ⛳️ 😊
Thanks so much, it is indeed ⛳🏌️thanks for the support :)
Been playing my local par 3 all year, can’t wait to see how I will do on an 18 hole course! This course however looks crazy difficult! Also golf saved my mental health back in 2010, saved me going to a bad place and took me to a wonderful place. It still helps me to this day.
Ah amazing! I think I need to get back out on a par 3 course for a while after seeing how bad my short game is at the moment !! Yes this is a tricky course actually, the back 9 especially is a bit of a killer! That's so good to hear that Golf's been so good for you too, keep it up :) Thanks so much for your comment.
