Icelandic flying action - Part 2 - Coffee and piano !

Í þessum hluta er flogið frá Reykjanesi (BIRS) að (BIBI) Bæir og endað í Aðalvík (BI26).
Á flugi okkar frá Reykjanesi yfir sundið (Ísafjörð) töldu einhverjir sig hafa séð hval á ferðinni.
Lent var á flugvellinum BIBI (Bæir) enn þá var kominn mikill kaffi þorsti í hópinn. Gengið var á næsta bæ við flugvöllinn til að kanna hvort ekki væri hægt að fá kaffi. Móttökurnar þar voru mjög góðar, fengum við okkur mikið magn af kaffi, veltum því fyrir okkur hvar við værum á landinu, spiluðum á píanó og sungum saman.

Þann 29. Október 2023 fórum við Jökull, Stefán og Þóra fljúgandi á vit ævintýranna. Veðrið var hreint út sagt frábært og okkur langaði að fara norður á Akureyri en eftir stutt símtal við flugturninn á Akureyri var ljóst að ég færi ekki á TF-173 þangað þar sem ég var ekki búinn að óska eftir heimild til þess fljúga þangað deginum áður. This is a flight from Reykjavik to Flúðir (BI43 - BIFL). We had to stay away from the mountains do to wind and turbulence from them. I also show how I analysis my flight sometimes on my computer and on Google map. Great day with good people.

Listen too a stall from outside. I placed a microphone outside my plane to hear the airflow as I stalled. Now summer is just around the corner and I´m looking forward for all the events around Iceland this year.

Finally the weather was good here in Iceland and I could fly after bad weather for more than month . I took two short flights in the morning and than I asked my pilot instructor to take me on a check ride. We did extreme stalls and steep turns. The Instructor said that I was doing great. So I flew for the first time with a passenger. My wife :)

hello! how many hours did it talke to fully build it?
Hello, I'm not exactly sure how many hours it took, but I spent 20 months putting it together. I was in no rush, I wanted to do the building after work and on weekends. Sometimes I took a break from building for a few days or weeks. When the plane was finally ready and I took it to the airport, my garage was suddenly empty, and sometimes I miss not being able to go into my garage to build a plane. Now I have flown this plane almost 200 hours all over Iceland. I often wonder how crazy that is. Of course, it would be possible to assemble such a plane in less time, but it is best to take your time and enjoy building. With best regards, Harry take your time

I like a lot the nynja, I am flying on it in my club in the uk, so I was curious! I found your videos looking for “bush nynja “ and I am glad I stopped on your channel. Wow! Was wondering why fly in formation, that's a lot to handle, very intensive concentration required all through the flight, but I guess Reykjavik airport is happier with 10 'slow' aircraft coming on once than 10 separate 'slow' aircraft one at a time 🤣 I've never landed at a controlled airport, always small uncontrolled airstrips, and honestly no great desire to land at a controlled airport either!

I am thinking of installing one in my Skyranger (now I do not have installed thermostat), but in Spain this manufacturer is not well known and I am not able to find pilots who can give me their opinion. Thanks for watching, There have been no problems in the 125 hours I have flown the aircraft. All very tight, no leaks and full pressure on everything. The oil temperature is faster to reach the minimum 50°C before take-off and the water temperature is much faster. I know two others here in Iceland who are using equipment from "Silent Hektik" and as far as I know they are very happy. A big advantage in a cold country like Iceland.

Unfortunately Google Earth doesn't work for me - not sure if it's a UK thing, but stopped working a while back. Shame as I'd love to see the height we approach our runway 29 at from the road!
Thanks learned many things one question: can we use Rotax engines in pusher propeller aircraft ? I really worry about its cooling system.
The Rotax 912 is water cooled, try to let as much air flow around the cylinders as possible. If you do it right, than it should be fine. Petrel aircraft and the SkyArrow uses Rotax engines in pusher configuration for years with no issues.

Loved that, nice smooth recoveries too. Fascinating to watch the speed drop off on the ASI as it went into the stall - something you never see as the pilot as your eyes should be forward ready to recover the stall.

Hi, yes it is fun to build your own plane. The SR does not come with electric trim but I placed T3 electric trim system like most of SR have here in Iceland. Very nice and interesting Harry. I own a recently bought Skyranger Vfun that I am upgrading. One thing that I like to much is your flaps angle indicator. I am planning a similar system but using magnetic reed swithes. Also, in my aircraft is very common that the first lever position (0º) does not lock in the notch and flaps, it loosens between 0º and 15º. I want to prevent this situation with a red led in the panel.
Thank you. It is also good to have the flaps light on the panel if you forget to place the flaps back up, you will notic sooner ;)

Hello Erik, Thank you for watching :) yes, I do have two 2.2KW micro heater systems from Edge performance, they use hot water from the engine. They work pretty well. However I did wear extremally warm cloths that day for security reason if I had to land far away from help...... Always better safe than sorry. @@FlyingHarry That makes sense 😂 As a Norwegian with pretty similar weather, I thought it was strange if you didn’t have heater! But the security reason is a good reason!! And I presume the heater works great too, since it’s Norwegian made 😂 Fly safe and keep posting! Love your videos! Hi Harry. I notice at about 2:30 you drill a hole into the main tube frame of the elevator to accomodate the servo arm extension. My question is why didn't you mount the servo more towards the rear of the elevator to accomodate the servo extension?
Hi Barry, I have the servo in this place because the elevator is thickest there and does not push out the cover when the servo is installed there. If I had the servo somewhere else then it would push out the cover and might affect the airflow on the elevator. From the servo I used carbon fiber tube from a local hobby shop. I think everybody else here in Iceland just puts the servo outside the elevator and are having no problem with that. But I did it different. I think it looks better this way and it was more challenge to make :) Thanks for the question and best regards, Eysteinn HARRY.
