In the viking age 1100 years ago you would never see a woman with artificial dyed hair like green or this red colour that I saw here. It was simply impossible, and horned helmets were allready old fashioned. Horned helmets were used by the priests in the bronze age much earlier, but not by warriors.

Strictly a costume party. Viking were never re-enactors; they were always of their time. To best emulate, we too, should be men and women of our time and not fantasizing about how it might have been. Same with American Civil War re-enactors... you can never be them. Yes, learn their lessons, but be of our times.

My favorite part is all the non Viking age symbolism you see at festivals like this. Call it “Heathen Fest” or something more appropriate.

You don’t see many women in the Viking community who aren’t “full figured”.
