Partitura Organum
Добавлен 20 май 2016
This is the video channel of Partitura Organum. Partitura Organum is a growing collection of organ music editions. The aim is to typeset lesser known organ music from original printed or manuscript sources that are in the public domain. The typesetting is done using LilyPond, an open source engraving program, and Frescobaldi, a dedicated editor for LilyPond.
All scores come with a recording, made with the virtual instrument software Hauptwerk.
Allthough I review the scores and play them myself, a small error is easily made. And where a manuscript source is ambiguous or (in my opinion) incorrect, I provide a solution based on my knowledge of music theory and my own taste. These scores are not meant as “Urtext”-editions. However, any suggestions to correct errors are welcome.

Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium, C Dur (L 20)
Seger's prelude in C (L 20) is probably meant as a manualiter piece. For the true virtuoso it is of course possible to play the bass line with the feet, but I would have a hard time playing it like that. As a manualiter piece, it is quite easy to play and at the same time it is a perfect exxample of Seger's ability to build a mature composition from just one simple motif. It keeps amazing me how easy and natural the music of Seger seems to flow. It feels like the music could not have been wriiten any other way than the result we see and hear. Nevertheless, as the preludes L5 (partitura.org/index.php/josef-ferdinand-norbert-seger-praeambulum-l-5/) and L 16a (partitura.org/index.php/josef-f...

Johann Sebastian Bach (?), Ach, was soll ich Sünder machen (Emans 19)
Просмотров 3984 месяца назад
Among the many many compositions that may or may not have been written by Johann Sebastian Bach, is the little choral partita "Ach, was soll ich Sünder machen". It features a four part setting of the choral, followed by three variations, that have the choral melody in the bass voice,m the tenor voice and the bass voice respectively. The authorship of Bach is dubious. The music might just as wel...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium, A Dur (L 19)

Since manuscript Becker III.8.63 notates the music on just two staves, it is most of the tmes a bit of a guess wether or not a the pedals have a role or not. Sometimes long bass notes have an explicit indication "P" next to them. For the rest it is as if the music is meant to be played manualiter. The prelude in A major, L 19, is no exception in this regard. It is notated on two staves and bear...
Paul Siefert (?), Fantansia Septimi Toni ex G Dur
Просмотров 2844 месяца назад
The ninth Fantasia from manuscript Becker II 51, owned by the Leipziger Stadtbibliothek, is based on two themes or motives. Both are introduced in the first 6 bars of the fantasia. Though it is perhaps tempting to say that the first one of these two is the main theme and the second one is the counter subject, they turn out to be equally important in the development of the fantasia. The fantasia...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium, B Dur (L 18)

The 18th composition from manuscript Becker III.8.63 is a prelude in B flat major. It is a nice play with the motif introduced in bars two and three. The prelude wanders up and down the circle of fifths, thus giving it structure. The prelude starts in B flat major (obviously) and subsequently touches the tonalities of F major, d minor, g minor, c minor, f minor, E flat major, c minor, g minor a...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium Es Dur (L 17)

The next compositin from manuscript Becker III.8.63 is a prelude in E flat major. I sometimes wonder how close the versions in manuscript Becker III.8.63 are to Seger's original compositions. This prelude in E flat major is clearly a four part compositions, probably intended to be played with the pedals. The four part texture is often reduced to a three part texture for no apparent reason. Perh...
Rudolf Löw, Trio in D Dur
Просмотров 604Год назад
Rudolf Löw (1832 - 1898) was a Swiss organist and composer. He was a student of Carl Ferdinand Becker (Orgel) and Ignaz Moscheles (Piano). In 1864 he became first organist in the newly build Elisabethkirch. As composer he wrote mostly in a style inspired by the old masters of counterpoint like Bach and Händel. With the exception of a few Lieder, his output as a composer was never printed. A few...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Fuga C Dur (L 16b)
Просмотров 433Год назад
The numbering of this fugue and the preceding prelude in manuscript Becker III.8.63 (16a and 16b) suggests they belong together and should be played as one "Prelude and Fugue". If that's true than it is the only pair in the manuscript, as all the other pieces are numbered consecutively. It seems more likely therefore that the numbering stems from an error and one of the two was skipped when the...
Johann Ernst Rembt, Trio nr. 12, Es Dur
Просмотров 407Год назад
In 1787 Rembt published 12 Trios for organ. Manuscript Ec 268.5, held by the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, Bonn, contains 6 of these 12 Trios. The last of these six is a trio in E flet major. In my opinion it is the most beautiful of the six and the best written one. The main theme of the trio is not only for the hands, but the feet get their turn in playing the main theme as well. The rec...
Johann Christoph Oley, Ermuntre dich mein schwacher Geist
Просмотров 376Год назад
Oley's prelude to the chorale "Ermuntre dich mein schwacher Geist" is the last one chorale prelude taken from manuscript Ec 266.1.2. I kept this one as the final composition to be published because of two reasons: it is the most surprising of the compositions from manuscript Ec 266.1.2 and it is the most difficult one to play. Where often Oley's compositions are a bit stiff, scholarly or even b...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Prælude C Dur (L 16a)
Просмотров 520Год назад
Seger's prælude in C Dur, L 16a, is closely related to his Præambulum in C Dur, L 5. Both preludes have the same two bars as the main musical material. After these first two bars each prelude develops the material in it's own seperate unique way, till the last two bars, which are again identical in both preludes. It's intruiging to see how Seger can create two completely different pieces with t...

In 1787 Rembt published 12 Trios for organ. Manuscript Ec 268.5, held by the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, Bonn, contains 6 of these 12 Trios. The fifth of these six is a trio in B flet major. Rembt does not provide tempo indications for his trioos, so it is up to the player how fast to play them . This trio strikes me as menuet like, and so the tempo should be fairly moderate. The recordi...
Oley, Wie gross ist des Allmächt'gen Güte
Просмотров 263Год назад
A chorale prelude to "Wie gross ist des Allmächt'gen Güte" is not something you come often across. And there appear to be several melodies in use for this particular choral. As far as I know Oley is the only one who uses this melody. An exeption might be the choral prelude by Johann Adam Hiller, but I've only seen the first two bars of that one. So this composition is a bit of a rare one. Oley ...
Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Transitus per omnes tonos (L 15)
Просмотров 360Год назад
The fifteenth composition from manuscript ecker III.8.63, held at the Städtische Bibliotheken Leipzig is a rather ambitious one. Called "Transitus per omnes tonos" it promises a passage through all tonalities. The compositions does not touch all posibly tonalities, but it certainly goes through a lot of sharps and flats. It is actually a bit too much for the fifth comma mean-tone temperament of...
Johann Christoph Oley, Wenn meine Sünd mich kränken
Просмотров 237Год назад
Some of Oley's chorale preludes are a bit more difficult to play than most others. The prelude to the chorale "Wenn meine Sünd mich kränken" is one of the more difficult ones. It is written as a Trio for organ. The composition follows the harmonic outline of the chorale melody, though here and there fragments of the melody itself are discernable. In the middle of the composition Oley writes rat...

Thank you for the pictures and score sheet!
You even played Siefert! Thank you very much for this once - truly talented! 👍
Wonderful and so much talent. Thank you for sharing your amazing skills! 👍
Eine wundervolle Bearbeitung. Ich bin echt hin und weg!
Lovely piece. I must learn it. Thank you. By the way, the Redeemer organ sounds great. I have it, too; but I can't seem to get the same sound. Did you make any adjustments to the set? Sounds great.

Lovely
How can he end in b-minor after teasing the d-sharp??? Anyways, lovely playing, as always!
Nice
I think this misunderstands Bach’s intention regarding ornamentation. There are, for example, a number of pieces where Bach provides ornamentation in the first handful of bars, and then omits it entirely for the rest of the piece. This does not indicate that no ornamentation is expected in the playing of the remainder of the work. Similarly, ornamentation was taught and expected, and therefore not always written into the MS. The idea that, because there’s no ornamentation - or there is ornamentation - in a particular MS implies something is not accurate about the MS, is entirely wrong, or an inaccurate understanding/interpretation. Equally as wrong is some intentional omission of ornamentation based on its existence or absence from one or other extant MS copy. Also, please credit the source of the write-up - especially where it is copied almost verbatim from another source.
Well, wrong or not, the point remains that ornamentations were implicitly understood and left to the player to perform. Which is what I try to do here. Perhaps completely wrongly, but that doens't really matter to me.
Thanks for sharing! Where did you find the Tabulatur for this piece, displayed at 00:12?
The source is manuscript Ms. Lynar B3 owned by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin. You can find it online here: digital.staatsbibliothek-berlin.de/werkansicht?PPN=PPN671074040&PHYSID=PHYS_0072
@@PartituraOrganum Thank you! The site seems be temporarily down; looking forward to find it once up. :-)
Fantastisch !!! 😄😄😄 ❤❤❤ 😊😊😊
Thanks!! :-)
I love the stop combinations used in this performance!! 😍😍
Thanks! Though now I listen to it again, perhaps a bit more differentiation between upper and lower manual would have been better.
¿Organo solo? ¡Sorpresa!
It's one of the many ways of writing music for the organ, as if each f the hands and the feet together were a seperate instrumentalist. The original of Pepusch's sonata is of course for three instruments, yet it can very well be played on the organ.
@@PartituraOrganum Thank you.
J.S. Bach's most underrated work. There. I said it.
I would not go as far as that, but it's without doubt a beautiful composition.
It's possible to feel the heart filled with the good spirit of Jesus-Christ. Amen. Alleluia.
It's a lovely piece, I like it a lot.
I am very thankful to this chanel to focus on unknown yet excellent german (and danish) composers. There is not only Bach. From Walther to Homilius, there is a wonderful genealogy. It's a pleasure to discover all these names and styles.
I'm glad you like my efforts. I can only hope my publications lead to the music being plaued more often.
Sehr schön gespielt und registriert
Thanks!
This Music is so melodious and sweet!!! It deeply moves my soul!!! It almost makes me weep of joy and sweet serenity!!! Thank you so much!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's been a while since I played this piece, but you're right, it's a beautiful sonata and deserves to be played more often.
Amazing free piece in the late Baroque or Galant style.❤
And I've only just begun with my Seger series. Some 130 compositions to go...
Sounds very nice!
It does, doesn't it? I still like the idea to play these fantasias with only one 8' Principal.
Its enough, when the eight Food is petfect. In this Video he is it
Really beautiful early Baroque Fantasia!❤
Thanks, Vidas!
Thanks maestro. Perfect tempo and just the right touch of rubato
You're welcome! And thanks for the compliment
Endlich wieder ein schönes Video von Ihnen. Hoffentlich kommen jetzt wieder öfters neue Stücke
Thanks! The intenton is there to pick up my old publishing regime again, but I can't promise. Nevertheless, I have already recorded 6 more pieces, so for the short term, there is more to come.
@@PartituraOrganum thank you very much
Welcome back, Auke! Hope you are feeling better already. This is a very nice praeludium and really well played!
Thank Vidas. I'm slowly feeling better again, and more importantly, wanting to play organ again!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

Thanks, Vidas. I'm going to listen to your version now!
Love the registration and the interpretation. I'm just going thru all versions of the piece YT finds for me. This definitely stand out.
Thanks for the compliment!
Lovely. As I am used to listen to Netherlands Bach Society's "Hohe Messe" I found it great to find your score and downloaded it trying to play it myself. There' a beautiful sound in your organ. Really mature! You live in the Netherlands?
Sorry for the late reply. I've been ill. Yes, I live in the Netherlands. And I'm glad you like my adaptation for organ of this piece. Have fun with it!

I've just noticed another mistake in the index for your edition. Freu dich sehr on page 6 is given as Freu dich seht for page 26. Unfortunately I printed out the whole of your original edition and never noticed that you had included the same version twice !!
The downloadable edition (from my website) contains the two seperate compositions (even though the index still has the spelling mistake). I lost the ability to upload new verions to the lulu website, so I can't correct the printable version.

Nice tempo. Thank you for this sharing. I've never heard Tobias Krebs work before, but to me this is far more imaginative and similar to 8 short preludes and fugues than any of his son's work..If he wrote this, maybe the other c-minor trio BWV 585 was his work as well?
No, BWV 585 is an adaptation of a triosonata by Johann Friedrich Fasch. See here: partitura.org/index.php/johann-friedrich-fasch-triosonata-c-moll-fwv-nc2-bwv-585/
@@PartituraOrganum Thank you for the info. I found Fasch's music very interesting.
Beautiful. He would be so ecstatic.

You're welcome. It's not very idiomatic for organ, but nice to play any way
My son learnt this for his ABRSM G5 a few years ago. It's great to hear you playing it at a similar pace and with a superb organ setting.
I think it's one of the nicest compositions of Oley.

Im Prinzip eine G Dur, aber gar nicht leicht zu spielen. Dafür ist es Ihnen gut gelungen.
Difficult: yes. G major? No, I don't agree, it has far mor e minor character than G major.
Thanks for the info
