Bellissimo 👍👋
Grazie!
Fantastic shots and colors !
Thank you! In the weeks coming I will publish other 4 similar videos taken in the same area, but on different paths. Cheers.
Nice! What’s your opinion between Provia and Eterna for video? You succeeded into getting not to much differences between them in your video.
Hello, I'm happy you like it. Actually I was just making experiments. I mainly stay on Provia, for me is better, at least for the kind of videos I make (natural landscapes and so on). In every case I make some post production in Final Cut Pro. Now the possibility of color editing has improved much in the program. You have the "Adjustments" mode, very similar to what you can do on still images in Lightroom. So, in my case it is not "pure" Provia or Eterna, but it is always edited, which can change not only brightness, contrast, but also color. Anyway, my first choice for shooting remains standard Provia.
@@giorgiolulli Nice experiments. I also did some tests and Provia tends to be a bit red on skin tones. Also, colors seems to be a bit too saturated for video when watching on an LG OLED CX55 which is said to be quite acccurate when disabling the fancy modes. I tried Highlights and Shadows to -2 and colors to -2 but it remains a bit hard. For Eterna, it seems that setting Highlights and Shadows to -1 , Colors to +1 or +2 and White Balance Auto but with Red +1 and B-2 (or B-1) may be good. Eterna colors are a bit dull and cold by default, that’s why I think these adjustments may be good.
@@valbou1089 I have no particular problems on skin tones for the kind of video I make, Provia is ok. But I edit clips in postproduction and this can make a difference. As I told previously, now in Final Cut pro you have the possibility of working with shadows and highlights, more ore less the same way you do in Lightroom with still images. So, if the contrast is too hard, you can adjust it by (gently, not too much) increasing shadows and reducing highlights. With Eterna just do the opposite, or increase the contrast, and this brings the results of the two simulation modes closer. With no postproduction editing, just playing with camera parameters, is much more difficult to reach your goal.
@@giorgiolulli Of course, we can get precise results in post-production, especially if using >= 10 bits « neutral » files. I used to shoot F-LOG, exposing ETTR and using Paul Leeming LUT for F-LOG in Resolve which give good results. However, lately I would like to simplify things by trying to shoot with mainly in-camera parameters.
@@valbou1089 OK, I see that you process is more complex than mine. I experimented with F-LOG with mixed results, but in the end I prefer to be simple with shooting, working with standard profile and fixed camera parameters, eventually spending some time in post production adjustment. Thanks for this interesting discussion, l hope to see your work on your channel soon!
No more use of the XT3 for video?
Hi. I have a Sony RX100 which I use from time to time. It's a good camera, it is very small and light, so very easy to carry around. But, of course, the video quality is lower, especially from the point of view of dynamic range, which is much better in XT3.
@@giorgiolulli Ok thanks Giorgio.

Cool!
Still nice but a little bit too much HDR style on this video?
Sorry to have missed this and other previous comments from you, but notification about comments was turned off in my channel. Even if it's a bit late, I'll try to answer. In this case I didn't edit the video in order to give it an HDR style. I think that this impression is given by the diffuse light, during this shot it was mostly cloudy and the contrast of the scene was quite low.
@@giorgiolulli No problem, thanks for your answer!
♥
Really interesting, it's difficult to find actual electron interference experiments online as most are optical. This is awesome.
As on some of your previous videos, the colors are great. I'm thinking about shooting Provia (if it's the profile you use) instead of F-LOG or Eterna.
Hello, Did you use the profile Provia?
Yes, I use Provia almost every time.
@@giorgiolulliLet me remember, you shoot Provia with default Higlights and Shadows configuration in camera but then use a specific plugin with a software? I believe this plugin helps to soften at least the shadows to get these nice results?
@@valbou1089 My parameter for highlights and shadows are both set to -2. Honestly, I don't remember why... Maybe was an advice I found in a YT video. At the time of this video on Sicily, I used to adjust color with a FCP plugin, Cinema Grade, by which I was able to reduce a bit highlights and increase shadows, in order to reduce contrast. But now these adjustment functions are included in FCP, they work quite well, so I have abandoned that plugin, which is is no more necessary, at least for my editing needs.
@@giorgiolulliOk, your in camera settings explain the results you get and I also think it’s better to record a bit soft and then adjust/add contrast in post treatment when needed. The opposite is often not possible. I tried Provia with Shadows and Highlights set to -0.5 but it’s too punchy for video. I should make other tries with -1/-1.5/-2 Thanks for your answer. Your videos are always a pleasure to watch, almost documentary feeling.
Finally, I was having a meltdown trying to find a video of the actual experimental apparatus. All of the other videos on here only show the results or computer models.
A superb film. Thank you for uploading!
Beautiful greens!
Thank you for the comment!
Hello, I like your shots, it doesn't change too fast, we have time to enjoy the images. Do you travel with a tripod and a fluid head? If yes, which one, because the total is not always so light? Thanks
Hello, all footage was hand shot. The lenses used are both OIS, and this helps, of course, but most of the stabilisation is done in post production using Final Cut Pro X.
@@giorgiolulli Great result. I am working with 23 f2 which is not stabalized and it's not easy handled. I should have a look at the postproduction stabilization also.
@@valbou1089 I too have a 23 f2 lens, but never used it for video. However, I think that free hand shooting with a suitable post-stabilisation in Final Cut pro X , Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or any other good video-editor, should work sufficiently well even wit no-OIS lenses.
@@giorgiolulli I will try it, yes.
Amazing colors
For the colours the credits are due to the Fuji xt3. I have recently changed from Canon, which has good reputation for colours too, to Fuji, which is even better. After shooting in rather standard conditions I just adjusted contrast and exposure a little in order to easily reproduce the real vivid colours of the real scene.
That was fun!
Very nice with this Tim Hecker music ..... 👍👌👍. I just download Anoyo and Konoyo on Qobuz.
Hello, Congratulations for this video, your colors and shots are great. Which profile did you use? Also, did you use a ND filter or not?
Hello and thank you for the nice comment. i shot with the STD profile and made color correction and grading in Final Cut Pro using the Cinema Grade plugin. I didn't use any filter, I shot at F22 and 1/120 velocity. Under these conditions the as-shot video was somewhat over exposed, but not too much and the over exposure was recovered, were necessary, in post production. Finally, I shoot hand-held, and stabilised footage in post production.
@@giorgiolulli Hi again, You said you use the Standard profile which is Provia on Fuji cameras. I made some tests and this profile looks too much contrasted for video. I saw that we can tweak the profile directly in the camera. For example we can set the Shadows and Highlights at -1 so that it's a bit less contrasted (but still quite a lot finally...). Do you use these in-camera parameters or do you do all this with the Cinema Grade plugin? Or maybe both? I have difficulties in color grading videos (I also tried Eterna and F-Log but it's not easy...).
Nice, thanks
Colors😍
Great!
