It's all nostalgia for me. First played in 2004 with a couple classmates when I was 10. Now I'm 28 and have been bouncing back and forth for years. I still have my old rs3 account, but now I only play OSRS.

Definitely subbing early before you blow up because this was great.

I played as a kid from 2007-2010 and came back to it in 2023 as a 30 year old with a 1 year old. I play it at nights when he goes to sleep and I fell in love all over again but as an adult have this scene of nostalgia like how I played as a child but at the same time seeing the game in a whole different way.

Awesome vid

I only played F2P when I was young so that's where my nostalgia was. When I got into members content as I was older, it didn't really speak to me anymore. The game I knew of was so different from members content, sort of overwhelming for me. I did a quite a bit of members content but it never really sticked to me. I didn't feel too motivated to do all the stuff there is to offer so I just at some point didn't play anymore.

This game looks about as fun as an high-school econ lecture. After watching this vid I might want to play it.

Played the shit out of this in 8th grade, quit when eoc came out. now i'm 31 and making an ironman. I thought I was out, but they pull me back in

i have 10k hours and close to maxing a second account now lol, im gonna add to this that there is basically an indefinite amount of content, but also 95% of the content can be done in whatever way you prefer - meaning you can choose to get less xp/money and play reclined while watching/listening to something, or you can do the most sweaty method and get the most reward possible. I personaly do a mix of them but leaning on the sweaty side more lmao. This makes it so you can never be in a mood where you cant play this game. Also another thing that hooks me is the rhytmic nature of the game engine (tick system). Once you understand how it works it is incredibly satisfying and almost hypnotising lmao.

For me it's not that there's so much content but that it feels impossible to not be making progress. No matter which of that content you do you're upgrading your account. Runescape has many layers of parallel and horizontal progression as opposed to a lot of other games that are strictly vertical progression

i played runescape like 15 years ago first time and said "what a bad game" and delete it even without finish the tutorial island. then last year tried again i was in vacation and nothing so much to do. and love it! i've reached 1500 total lvl recently and goin on. it's not a game but a journey.

RS was the only game i got to play as a tiny little me, f2p servers only. its been so much fun trying to figure out all the members content. and i havent even touched iron mad content

My favorite part of osrs is its attention scaling ability. You can engage in high-octane raids, moderate difficulty minigames, or super afk skilling. Combine that with the fact that you can progress on the sam account on both desktop and mobile, and it offers a level of flexibility I've never seen in any game before or after. Also, no WAY did you just recommend people go to wintertodt right before the US election, guaranteed they're not talking about irons vs mains rn, its waaaaay more toxic lmao

It's worth pointing out that ironman does NOT bring a whole new style of playing. There have existed ironman rules for almost any game you can think of, dating back to before RS2 existed, let alone OSRS. Sometimes it means no additional save games, sometimes it means not visiting towns and using shops. For Runescape, the chosen rule set was one of the most popular self-imposed challenges. The real function of the visible ironman account status is proof. By having the mode officially supported, it lets you prove that the account hasn't made any exceptions. No small donations of a few million gp from your main account.

I love this video and I can feel your love for the game as well! Like you I started in 2005. Runescape hasn't always been a part of my life the entire time, but it's always been a place I can retreat to to feel at home again. For me the game taught me the journey to the destination is the true reward. I can look at items in or achievements on my account and remember what hardships I was going through at the time; in game and in real life.

For me its because my friend from high school used to play it whenever he would come over with his laptop back in 2015/2016. I had always been curious about the game and enjoyed watching him pk in the wildy. What really brought me in was the GE and being able to use in game gp to get membership with bonds. He gave me 5mil on rs3 since he didn't really play rs3 anymore and I was flipping bronze swords for a profit of about 100k per 5mil buy-in. Then I put an offer in for 5mil worth of logs and didn't play for about 5 years and came back to try it out again. I ended up having nearly 3x'ed the 5mil and was watching videos about osrs and saw people using runelite and found out rs3 doesn't have an equivalent so I switched over. The grinds are probably my favorite part because once you reach your goal item or level its just so satisfying, and it reminds me of my friend from high school, he was my best friend and I still consider him that but we drifted apart since he enlisted in the navy after high school. So its kind of a mix of a lot of things for me but mainly the nostalgia of watching my friend play and always being curious to try it out. Been playing for ~3-4 years now and its by far one of my most played games. As some others in the comments here said, it's not a game its's a lifestyle

I think what makes the game so special is that it can cater to mood very well. It offers a reason to log in whether you are in the mood for some truly lean forward high APM gameplay, or just want to lean back and watch a movie but still progress your account. Pair that with the social aspect of it being a multiplayer game adding to truly give the account progression meaning and you have a recipe for a 'forever game'.

Runescape is just a majestic game. No matter what. It'll always be a part of our lives. <3

As Josh Strives said in a recent Sae Bae Podcast, RuneScape is a home to many people. I played RS2 as a kid, just like about half of the boys my age in my environment did. I played it for 6 years, slowly progressing, but mostly derping around making little progress. I returned half a year ago with a mind set of progressing and playing efficiently. It felt so great achieving things that would have taken years as a kid. After 3 months I got a fire cape, which I had never even achieved in those 6 years before. All those achievements feel meaningful because they are things that seemed crazily difficult back in the days. I now have a quest cape, which I nearly had in RS2. My only IRL friend that also plays RS is my brother and every time I achieve something, I have to let him know. He plays a main and is nearly maxed while I'm a midgame iron, but we can talk so much about our own experiences and goals. Furthermore I just enjoy sitting in a random clan chat and talk about my own questions/progress or help out others. Sometimes we talk about irl stuff for hours. The community is so important. Most people playing are people like yourself, mid- to late 20s, having a job and just mostly afking on the side and playing a dozen hours a week. It just resonates.
