Harry Ferguson's three point hitch was revolutionary not because it made it easier to attach implements, it didn't. The Ferguson hitch used the draft of an implement to add down force to the rear traction wheels of these tractors. The N series tractors were designed to serve the needs of small acreage farmer that could never afford a John Deere or International tractor for their farm. It addressed the needs of farmers that still depended on a single team of horses and produced many different crops. The technology of the tractor and especially the engine was the same used in Ford's cars of the era, so it was easy to understand how to maintain it. This series of tractors were designed with the same basic design philosophy of the Model T Ford of thirty years earlier.
