I read this book and several others while I was stationed in Fort Lenardwood. It really changed my views on War and sacrifice. I cried like a child and thanked God every day that I missed serving in Vietnam by only Five years. I received an honorable discharge in 1989, but I never forget those who died for me in that terrible, and unnecessary War. God bless them all

I had to do a paper on this movie so I sat with my uncle who served and after he spoke his tale he went into a panic attack crying I had to like pick him up turned out His platoon was underfire and he was 26 and some 19 year old kid was freaking out and kept poking his head up out of the trench to try and run and my uncle kept pulling him down over and over so he wouldn't get shot all the sudden my uncle said he felt a rock hit him in his ear it was that kids head that got snipped off when he turned his back on him to reload his gun he blamed him self for his death when he told me that story I was like oh fuck ..😢 he never told that story to my aunt he just told her he was half deaf because he got hit with a baseball in the ear as a kid
