    To keep everything in context this is for power when striking. You can change hight when you duck or dodge.

    You are more balanced if you stay at the same height

    This is just incorrect, to properly do a *roundhouse* kick you have to lower your head and raise your leg while rotating.

      Because it's stupid, and it's better to go off the center line when you strike.

    Nice natural presentation. Good advice as well. I do Muay Thai so I naturally prefer the looser guard, but both are equally valid. Good advice on the traps! When I started out I constantly had a pain in my neck from tensing up, until I learned to rest my shoulders / guard on my lats (this'll make sense to a few you)

    In the first minute lately I'm just focusing on teeps and reactive kicks to "even on points". That itself has been such a fun to focus on rather having set moves in my head

    Why doesn't the back foot step towards the opponent for more power?

    • @8TribeMuayThai8
      @8TribeMuayThai8 10 дней назад

      You can, but not as a default. It's better to learn how to come back from a spin elbow first, before you attempt to follow through.

      @@8TribeMuayThai8, thank you for responding. I've been training/teaching for over 30 years (yes, I'm that old) and have worked both ways. I prefer stepping into the strike for several reasons. One, there's more power with the body moving into the strike. Two, your back is less exposed to the opponent, as your shoulder faces your opponent, not your back. Thirdly, you don't run the risk of arching back. Fourth, you can follow up with a pin kick to the groin. However, with many techniques, there are pros and cons. The way you do it (without the step) is more popular. Thank you for the video.

    Is axe kicking and spinning hook kicking allowed in Muay Thai and count as points?

    • @8TribeMuayThai8

      Yes they're allowed, as for points, I don't know- I've never been one to pay attention to points.

    Good tips! After sparring for about 1.5 years I've recently tried to be more calmer and calculated. Maybe I'm just getting old but recently trying to go back to basics with timing teeps and automatically hitting back to"stay even on points". The latter has been such a confidence booster and slowly ramping up during the 3 mins

    Great stuff. I find it Very difficult,even counter productive,to do to many combos because,you over condition ones natural freedom to stike.we are all different, and basicaly if you over complicate combos, you end up having ROBOTS, not natural fighters.

    Would you say flat feet/ squared stances produces more power and better balance for bracing for shots?

    • @8TribeMuayThai8
      @8TribeMuayThai8 29 дней назад

      Could be more power because you're more stable and heavy, so yes, and yes better balance- flat feet, more surface area touching the ground is going to be better for balance. Also if you miss your punches, you can retract easier than pivoting on your feet... you're extending punches less when you're flat and not pivoting as much, hence more balance. Pros and cons to each, but default should be to learn to pivot punches then learn to do flat- not the other way around.

    • @ctestare2625
      @ctestare2625 29 дней назад

      @8TribeMuayThai8 thank you for clarifying! right I’d imagine if I’ve spent all round trying to corner someone on the ropes and don’t want to give too much space back I’d prefer digging my feet to the floor and catching shots on my guard and countering rather than being on my toes and potentially getting knocked off balance with power punches or trying to head movement/pivot out of the way and give them back the space I spent so much time and effort to take away 🤔
