Very fun and informative showcase on an underrated and outstanding movie!
THIS is how you start Halloween off right!

This deck seems like it would be great for getting back in touch with the inner child! Especially if you were a subversive or strong willed kid. 😅
Great video! I just ordered this deck, so I was watching videos about it for sneak peeks and also to glean whether I would be satisfied with the purchase. I appreciate your breakdown of the tarot symbolism, and perspective on how the cards match up to it from your viewpoint. Exactly what I was looking for in a review! I would parley that the lack of boundary wall in the sun card makes sense in this artwork, because the sun energy is contained by the fact that the sun IS the character's hair. The fact that the the rays of the sun are literally made out of the afro.. I think it's so great! Again, great review, and thank you! I'm excited the look through the deck for myself.
@@aliciawelch1473 I hope you enjoy the deck as much as I do!
Flowing hair is an integral part of the jazz musician, tuned to the frequency of evil, superhero costume. I knew of the Night Man comic but had never seen it, you talked me into checking more out. Remember when Manimal was on the Night Man TV show, that was my favorite episode. Great show, keep it up!
Wasn't shadow man at valiant also a jazz musician?
90s pop culture was schizo, simultaneously the coolest and lamest decade . The decade of grunge and boy bands the decade of x-files and Beverly hills 9120 ...etc 😅
Top Five Ultraverse : 1. The Night Man 2. Sludge 3. The Strangers 4. Freex 5. Prime. Sweet Face is my fave Freek.
@@bazookajoe-u2w that would be cool to do a vid on Top 5 actually....nice thinking!

Always leave them wanting more! And you do. Great conversation guys! Triggered some childhood memories that may require therapy but I guess I’m in good company! Fun video!
@@MichaelFitzTroyTV childhood memories that require therapy? Well, looks like we need to have a Sam J Royale and Michael Fitz Troy Psychonaut Session guys!!!!
Thanks for having me on, Daniel! It’s always nice talking to you about all things strange and supernatural. 🙏
@@samjroyale let's do it again soon, Sam! Always a pleasure!
A lot of artist wanted to be Chris bachalo around this time ( including me 😊)
@@wileyjdraws7594 good point, I see the correlations!
Hi! Pretty sure Mike Zeck did snake eyes and Scarlett on minefield cover 🤔
Letterers never seem to get their due credit or respect, so this interview is fantastic. Nice to hear about the role that lettering plays in a page’s composition too. Great video, guys! And nice shirt, Aaron! I’m introducing my nephews to The Monster Squad this weekend.
" lord heavens" lol that made me laugh out loud for some reason 😅
I'm really enjoying this Transformers run, as well as Duke and Cobra Commander. I've been collecting the floppies so i didn't get burnt out from apl the action.
@@campblor yeah so far I am enjoying the floppies more
Read this in High school (2000 or so) and liked it then. This is one series I want to re-read as an adult, but am afraid it won’t be as good as it was then! Thanks for the video!!
I'm from the area that Doug Tennapel is from, but I've never seen They Call Him Evil. Then again, he's known for Earthworm Jim.
Love this book. I have the entire run. It's been about 5 years since I've read it. Think I'm going to have to dig it back out. Thanks for the vids. Really enjoy them.
@@BrainFlickerStudios thank you for watching!!!
I was never as disappointed with the circus canon ending as you, but I have always agreed that the third act is rushed. Once the ninjas arrive, things wrap up quickly. I've always doubted that it was Hama's fault, tied to the "pimping toys" schedule as he was, but it's there. I wish the saga could have been presented in one of those Marvel Graphic Novels they did back then. One artist to accompany Hama throughout the go. That could have been a book that rivaled anything else out at that time, in my mind.
lol You always forget Raptor's name. 🙂 Glad to see you reviewing this cornerstone of your creative spirit!
As someone being introduced to GI Joe comics through the Energon universe, where do you recommend to start ? I’m debating on just picking up the new series but it sounds like older stuff is worth it too.
Hey! For the Skybound/Energon stuff, I think the reading order is Void Rivals, then Transformers, Duke, Cobra Commander, and currently now there is Scarlett and Destro. The new G.I.Joe (Energon) series starts in November 2024. Now, Skybound is also putting out G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero which is not connected to Energon at all, it is a continuation of Larry Hamas work as it was started at Marvel back in the day. That stuff is great too...there are some omnibus editions of those old issues coming out soon from both Marvel AND Skybound both this fall.
Looney Tunes homages will win me over. Every time. Without fail.
Nice video ❤ I have good music for you here on Yt 💪
Bonus points for the Enemy Mine reference.
I love the character of Sludge. One of my favorites of the Malibu universe, and if I ever get to read all his comics he may be one of my favorite comic book characters within the whole industry. They could do silly versions were he needs to eat the pickles to turn human, but they could also do more serious stories were he has medication but always keeps a jar of pickles around... I HOPE U GO THREW THE WHOLE RUN!!!! p.s. - marvel needs to print omnibuses for Malibu Comics.
Hard disagree on the fistandantalus. He is mentioned in autumn twilight the first time Raist has an interaction with Fizban. To the tune of, "now is not your time ect ect ect" When raist is having a VERY bad coughing fit in the slave caravan. And then again throughout chronicles and legends.
@@Swix_FGC yep that is true. I forgot. Thanks. Although I still just don't like that Fist is the main ingredient to Raist's badassery.
10:00 - does he have a tu-tu ballerena skirt on in bed - I'M DONE!!!!
I like a handful of Malibu Comics characters after/from watching the Ultra-Force animation, but this wasn't one of them. So I'm here to see if the comic book can change my mind.
@@cliffwoodbury5319 good luck to us all! Lol
I’m back! Sorry for my absence, I was unexpectedly in the hospital. I’ll get caught up and also get my Patreon membership fixed.
@@AgentNevets hope you're ok!!!!
I have no idea, in what universe, "take the base," is a baseball reference. (Only thing I can think of is when you get walked, a ref could say, "batter, take your base." But that's pretty much it.) Interestingly, naming the flame guy "Heater" is also a baseball reference to a fastball. :) Do you think the skeleton hands rising up from the crotch is a takeoff from the Punisher and his skull? If so, I'm not sure where it lands on the dumber-to-cooler spectrum.
@@thegiftedone7251 Heater!!!! I didn't get that at first! Nice catch! (See what I did there? wink wink nudge nudge)
@@DanielMoler777 LOL! Nice word play. :) INFIELD FLY RULE! (Did I do it? :P)
@@thegiftedone7251@thegiftedone7251 I caught the Heater reference (starting at 15:13), which is proof that 1. I DO know some sports stuff (thanks, Grandpa!) and 2. Moler doesn't listen to me, either. 😀
@@aaronconaway3543It appears that I also don't listen very well to you, then. :P
@@thegiftedone7251 Yeah, you are who I was referring to when I typed "either." So, we can include reading what I write, too. 🤣
I’m so glad you specifically gave a shout out to the Brian Payne and Michael Fitzgerald Troy art team up! I think this project was the first time I saw Brian’s stuff in color (which already looks good in black and white), and MFT’s contribution really elevates the work. They’re one of my indie comic art dream teams now. Also, there were SO MANY cooks in this kitchen, and Michael managed to do the impossible by bringing everyone together to make this cohesive and delicious feast for the eyes. 🔥
Thanks for the kind words Daniel! A big labor of love! HUGE in fact. 😊
Cool. Never heard of that stuff.
so cool!!
No one try to make a drinking game out of taking a shot every time I say "Yeah." here. Hospital bills are expensive.
@@aaronconaway3543 🤣 or when I say "Like" . . .
@@DanielMoler777 Saying "like," for good or ill, is a cultural adaptation. Saying "yeah" as a response is the texting equivalent of typing "k," the resting pulse of the lazy and/or dimwitted. 🙂
I still say chronological works best, lol. If you go to Break-Thru soon, several series won’t be there yet.
A fantasy riff (kinda) on the plot of Footloose starring Poison?! Where has this been all my life?
@@aaronconaway3543 🤣
And if ANYONE can explain to Moler and me what the scientists do to help Prime survive space, please, have at it. Use small words.
@@aaronconaway3543 four letters, preferably!
I just stumbled upon this. Love Warlock 5. These were printed in my home town.
Thanks for the review Daniel. A few comments... • Ben Perkins not only did all the line art, but he also provided all the coloring and all of the display SFX (but one) in the book. Honestly, he should've been credited as co-letterer as well! • You were 100% correct about the logo - the 80s Chrome Vibe is where we started, but when Ben's cover art came in we all agreed that going with something more minimalistic made sense to give the artwork the shine it deserved • On the opening page...I felt pretty good about including a PSA about violence and anger management. Although the book is a fun and violent sci-fi tale, we (as creators) have an opportunity to share some info that might make a positive impact on someone's life (outside of pure escapist entertainment) • It wasn't noted in your review, but the use of Comic Sans was intentionally tongue in cheek for the two pages that it appears on.
That splash page is INSANE! What a dope world to play in, too. Looks fantastic!
Please don’t give up! On Hardcase, Mantra…or any title lol. I love this so much. It’s so fun going through with someone.
Always a pleasant surprise when I see a video! How did the art change by issue 2? I was really bothered by the switches. I like the book though, and really like Choice.
I highly recommend AD&D: Adventure Gamebook #4 by Terry Phillps, also titled The Soulforge, as a companion piece to reading this. In it, you get to play as Raistlin goes through the test. It won't fix all of your issues with Weis' rendition, but it touches on some of what you felt was missing here!
Some solid Cronenberg homages throughout!
You guys handle it however works best for you...I iike the way it's going, personally. It's not perfect but I think it works better than publication order, but thats just me. :) Great video as always!
Eddie is Metalhead and Xi’an is Desert Ghost. Bloodhawk…I don’t remember if he ever had a real name. My quick opinions on all of 2099: I never really read Hulk or FF. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the art in X-Nation 2099. Ravage was ok. X-Men, Spider-Man, Doom, Punisher and Ghost Rider very very good. X-Men takes turns would not expect from the very beginning and never stops being unpredictable.
