    I mean the artist doesn't deserve 100% of the money if they are exposed and lifted up through all the mechanisms of the industries. Did they have connections with marketing companies? Did they organise their tours? Did they arrange their own interviews with talk shows? Did they manage their own PR?

    Artist sill make millions! So for what Snoop was comparing back in the day, who printed the albums? Who managed the raw materials to make the albums? Who distributed to retailers? Who marketed the album to radio? Those people also deserve to be paid for their work. Now it's very different with physical media. You can be a good artist, song writer, composer, singer, but you still need lots of people to make it big.

    Michael was getting the most off his records. Like 2 dollars in the 80s was a lot. Michael made his money off touring. Which he did not like.

    Michael and Prince both talked about it. I think Michael's career was sabotaged from 1993 onwards. He wanted to stop touring after 1988 and wanted to make movies. Somebody got afraid or was rubbed the wrong way. I think all will come out after certain bigwigs in the entertainment industry die. I think the '93 allegations were not just about an unstable dentist in a custody battle.

    Michael made at least a dollar off his albums sells, and I'm sure he renegotiated it as it hit certain marks. But Michael OWNED his Publishing and thats where you make the REAL money. He owned 50% of SONY/ATV Publishing so he got paid off of every Artist owned by Sony, also the Beatles, Elvis and many others, and he owned 100% of MIJAC Publishing which was his own songs and Sony had none of that.

    This is why PRINCE was adamant about owning your own masters, creating your Own studios, writing and copywriting your own songs. Those examples Alone involves a lot of money that you give up to the studios. A Lot of artists were slow on the uptake and they're paying for their ignorance now.

    And now Amazon does the same thing to authors with their audiobooks. They take 60%. They don't produce it, they don't fund it, they don't write it, they don't voice it. They host it and sell it. But they take 60%. For nothing. Those $25 audiobooks everyone loves? After Amazon, and then the publisher, the author is left with $2-3 total for each copy sold. Then they pay taxes on that. That's theft.

    Thriller sold 9.99 X 100 million + copies so that should be a billion made in total. Whatever Michael got was a rip off even if it was $100 mil. Record companies act like 5 star hotels. Everything they do for you is marked up and billed to your record sales

    But the artist didn't paid for the engineer in the studio, they didn't paid for the session musician, they didn't paid for the marketing, they didn't paid for the production, and so on and so forth. It's easy to blame the studio because fans will always side with the artist, but the reality is far more complex than that.

    When artists sign with a label, the actual copyrights for the songs they make belong to the label. The math i was taught back in the day, Michael Jackson wouldn't have gotten 25 cents off selling a $10 copy of thriller In 2024 a record label is just a really big really expensive marketing team who ironically wont sign you until you've already built a fan base

    Same thing in Hollywood. The studios screw the artists by negotiating % of net profit deals then using creative accounting to declare a net loss.

  • @F4CTZV
    @F4CTZV 14 дней назад

    It really depends on what deal you have, but those people often have deals where they have 0% risk. The label pays everything. They pay the production, they pay the studio, they pay the engineers, they pay the videos, they pay the marketing, they pay the distribution. Of course then youll only make one dollar out of the ten dollars the album is sold for. I mean you can do it on your own, and work with your ten dollars, pay it yourself but no one wants that lol
