    A lesson *NOT* learned here - *DON'T FUCK ABOUT WITH SOMETHING THAT WORKS WELL!* or *DON'T TRY TO IMPROVE ON PERFECTION!* Matthew Bannister should've been *Persona Non Grata* at Radio BBC1.

    19:30 If you *EXCLUDE* music recorded before 1990, then you *junk the good stuff and go with UTTER GARBAGE!* The *REAL* talent lies with artists, duos, trios and groups(four or more members) that were around through the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s *EXCEPT* KISS and Village People. Those two acts relied of *FUCKWITTED GIMMICKS AND HAD ZERO TALENT!*

    Danny Baker's Radio 1 show was sublime. Bannister was also smart enough to keep the legendary John Peel. For people in our twenties, Radio 1 became relevant and a massive influence on the Brit Pop Ziegeist of the mid-nineties. Now I'm an old fart, I have BBC Radio 6 Music and I'm happy leaving Radio 1 to the kids.

    Radio 1 didn't matter when these ssckings were made, and it matters even less now. The DJs have become ever more anonymous/irrelevant as audiences have fragmented, and listening habits have changed.

    Great dramatized documentary. Some poor bloke was once beaten up for LOOKING like Chris Evans, and that seems to sum up Chris Evans. Why is arrogance a selling-point? I don't get it. I listened to Tommy Vance / Fluff Freeman for rock, and Simon Bates / DLT / Gary Davies for pop and charts - none of them was noticeably egotistical. Chris Evans was a monster - he didn't BECOME a monster. Maybe that's why Trump has "fans" - weak-minded people see arrogance as a strength rather than a weakness.

    Let's be honest there needed to changes at Radio 1. It should have been a gradual thing. The dance culture in the 80s took a long time to catch up with what was going on in the culture. Chris Morris, Stewart Lee and Mark and lard did some brilliant shows. If it was done over time and earlier it would have been better.

  • @LeeCorne
    @LeeCorne 4 дня назад

    Radio 1 at the time was awful and needed a clearout - I think the mistake they made was not moving those dinosaur dj's to their natural succession home of Radio 2. That's what happens these days. I'm in my 50's now and Radio 1 isn't meant for me. All these people commenting that Radio 1 has gone downhill are probably my age or older and are missing the point - it's a youth station! It's not meant for you to listen to!! I realised watching this that I haven't listened to it for probably about 10 years or more, but that's fine - I'm not the target demographic! If you want to listen to Status Quo or music from the 80s, there are plenty of stations that cater for you!

Everybody at the station could see he was destined for greater things. After a brief interlude at Radio Luxembourg, there he was - virtually in charge of Radio 1. A real loss 😢

It wasn't just for the twatty, pointless pop tunes. “Favours” were what it was all about. You could have the same as The Great Unwashed, only more easily. Or else you could get what ordinary people found harder to get hold of. You know what I mean….

    I missed Simon Bates when he left, but Radio 1 had to change and move on from the Happy Happy Sound era, but I think they could have done it more smoother, I think it was awful how they just got rid of DJs who had served the station well over the years!
