Rear Suspension Repairs to Suchiyu 16101 SCY 16101 RC Car. Ep. 15

RC cars will eventually break and need repair. That was the case with one of our Suchiyu 16101 RC Cars. We were running in gravel on a lakeshore and crashed into a rock. The car took a hard hit and tumbled over itself several times resulting in both rear wheels breaking. The dogbones popped out, the steel rod holding the lower sway arms came our allowing the wheels to just flop arround. This vi...

Suchiyu 16101 Pro Great Beginners RC Car! SCY 16101 Ep. 5
I'm starting to get into this hobby with my sons (6 & 8 years old), with multiple 1:16 Suchiyu/JJRC models like you have coming for this Christmas. I have some background in RC aircraft, it is definitely not a cheap hobby. I wish their grandfather had as much interest as you in trying to spend time with them. I just wanted to say thanks for investing so heavily in them, they will remember and it will matter. Time is the only thing we can't get back, best spend it well! I enjoyed watching your video(s) and wish you the best.
What is you perspective is this good like other SCY and JJRC Q130?
i got a brushed rebranded one for 80CAD which is less then 60usd crazy deal!
Are the trimmers functioning?
Compare to wltoys 104019 which one better?
I like the voice over reviews. Nice work.
Hello friend, is the battery 2s? How many download C's does it have?
Yes, this was with a 2S lipo battery.

The steel steering knuckles are made of cheese, I have replaced mine with plastic on the truggy version
哈哈,我儿子的第一台RC车。性价比超高,配件很便宜,操控还是不错的!😁避震尼龙球头易损,你可以单独买一些球头自行更换。差速杯容易断掉,需要备件。厂家只销售整套避震,很不划算。
Out of the box is terrible. Get a 3900-4300kv motor to wake it up on 2s.
What a good video
I'm getting interested in rc cars now I even got One that sucks it can't even turn properly
Glad you're getting interested in RC cars.... what care did you buy?
Nice review. Music doesn’t need to be so loud though.
Ok thanks!
Hi man, I have problem with right front low arm as the ball doesnt have so much free movement as the left one. So in the end the servo has troubles to return back to zero position and therefor its impossible to balance steering. But I have problem to remove the ball from plastic arm, Im affraid I will break it. Is there some trick how to remove it from the arm undamaged? THX
I wondered if the control arm would break too, but it hasn't happened to me yet. The best way that I have found is to use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the pivot ball and then rotate the pliers against the control arm for leverage. When you rotate the pliers over, the pivot ball should pop out of the socket in the control arm. There is also a pivot ball/shock multitool available at a lot of RC hobby stores that would work for this too. You can also use a socket that is a slightly smaller diameter than the socket hole and tap on the socket over the pivot ball until it pops out. Good Luck!
Thanks for answer, I tried maybe every piece of my equipment 😅 just kid'ng. Finally I had to put french pliers under the lower arm, setup hole bigger than ball and used hammer to get it out throught the pliers. It held there as hell. 😂 but its out now...
Hello, I have such a version and I suffer from the remote control when I turn on the remote, the car moves alone and some times it stops and sometimes moves alone to know if the problem is from the car or the remote
We had an issue like that with one of our radio transmitters too. In that case it turned out to be a defective transmitter. It doesn't make much sense to me but I've heard that adjusting the dual rate knob on the transmitter may have an effect on it too. Also, make certain that you turn on the transmitter before you turn on the receiver on the car.
I love sushi
its a awesome joke or ? 🤣🤣
Our title of "It was Awesome!" might be a little misleading, but it's what my five year old grandson had to say about it after driving it around for a while. Thanks for the comment.
Not to mention FRICCION SHOCKS. BUY WL TOYS 144001 INSTEAD
See my previous reply to your other comment.... point well taken. The WL Toys 144001 does look like a pretty good deal. I just ordered one.
Plastic plastic plastic, the wl toys 144001 is so much better, and it allows bigger batteries, that one is limited to that size of battery, plus the shock towers are plastic.
You make a really good point. I haven't looked at WL Toys yet. We've been buying Suchiyu because it uses common parts among several different models. It also has a brushless motor vs a brushed motor on the WL 144001. I just looked at WL Toys 144001 on Amazon and you're right. It looks like for the money, it's got several better features i.e. oil filled metal shocks, metal shock towers, adjustable metal pull rods, etc. that the Suchiyu does not. And it's 1/4th scale. I'm not so sure about the metal chassis instead of plastic on this, and I wonder if it would bend when bashing as opposed to the plastic chassis which will flex. It looked so good on Amazon for just $99, I just ordered one so we'll give it a test and compare them side by side. Thanks for the comment.
Sushi is good for ya 😅
Maybe it's the audio but it sounds cheap and for the price I can get a losing mini b
I get what you're saying about the sound... It was definitely a little different then the other Suchiyu cars we've run that don't sound cheap at all. I haven't tried a Losi Mini B yet, so maybe we'll have check that out. Also, it looks like the Losi is priced at about $199 RTR. That's about double this car so I'm not sure we'd be comparing apples to apples. Thanks for the comment.
Hello my friend I'm Brazilian, and I'm starting my journey in the world of RC cars!! I bought the normal SCY 16101 yesterday, and I ended up finding this video about the wheel arm... do you think it's a good idea to buy one too? To replace the plastic one that comes with it? There are some videos here from Brazil, which talk about a problem caused in the differential, due to the replacement of this arm... could you say that it really happens because of that? Here in Brazil, this toy is very expensive, and I'm afraid of ruining it hahahahah If you could answer me, I would be very grateful! Thanks for the informative video 😁
Hi. Thanks for the comment. Yes, I think it's well worth it to replace the plastic wheel hubs with the metal ones. Some sellers provide the upgraded metal wheel cups as part of the car and others offer only the plastic hubs. We've broken several plastic hubs that we replaced with metal ones and I've also purchased some of the cars with the upgraded metal hubs. Never, have I seen any issue with them causing problems in the differential. The metal hubs provide much better protection against damage from crashes, collisions, or hard landings. The only issue we've had with the metal hubs is that sometimes after a hard crash, instead of breaking a piece off, the screw that attaches the metal hub to the control arm get stripped and may have to be replaced. Below is a link to the front and rear metal wheel hubs on Ali Express, which is where I get my replacement parts. Good luck with it! @@kablesrc @kablesrc I understand, so it wouldn't be so much of a problem to put the metal steering arms on the model, even though it's plastic... But what about the fear hahahahaha Here in Brazil there are several RUclipsrs in the same field, They recommend changing the differential along with the arm... and I'm afraid to change, as I can't find a tutorial video at all! By the way, an acquaintance recommended that I change the steering link, that helps a lot for stability, and avoids breaking... do you agree with that?
Hi I'm from the UK and have the exact same buggy I lowered mine by 10 mm and it helped a lot also put on a 72 tooth spur and 26- 30 tooth pinion which improved the performance enough that I can keep up with the big boys toys ,I also changed the servo for an srt 6012 .. Hope this helps, tim
Hi. Thanks for the info. That's good to know. Wondering what weight oil are you using in your shocks and have you tried heavy or lighter weight oil and if it made a difference? Thanks -- Ben
@@kablesrc hi, yes I put 40 weight in the front and 35 in the back I found my shocks leaked quite a bit so made a thin plastic washer too sit under the top hat washer on the bottom of the shocks to compress the seals slightly
@@user-ry1jm9hw6w That's funny. We had leaks in our front shocks right out of the box too, but I haven't replaced the oil yet. Might be a common issue with the RB10. Thanks for the info.
I sanded my shock caps down a little to help them seal on the orings
Definitely subbed! Love the video
where did you get the replacement part?
I've been getting my Suchiyu RC car parts from Ali Express. Usually takes a week to two weeks to get them. Here is a link to the plastic replacement steering cups for the 16101 RC car. www.aliexpress.com/i/3256805181258478.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt Here's a link to the metal upgrade for that part. www.aliexpress.com/i/3256805181258478.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt
Do the shocks come ready filled with oil? Or what thickness oil would you recommend please? 👍🏻
We've been using 40wt. oil in our shocks and have been having good results. Maybe put a little lighter oil (35wt) in the back shocks.
Is it worth upgrading the shocks to oil filled? I’ve seen a set of 4 on AliExpress for about £5. Not sure what that is in dollars?👍🏻 Sorry, just seen your video on upgrading shocks. I am a fool
Great to see someone doing serious reviews on budget rc cars. We all can’t afford Traxxas and Armma. Thank you 👍🏻🙂
Been thinking about your comment. I would not have even thought of spending $250 to $300 on a Traxxas or Armma RC car had I not had some experience with the $70 to $125 cars I found on Amazon. My grandkids and I have a ton of fun with those cars. These are great for people, like us, who didn't want to spend a lot of money but were interested in the hobby. It's a great way to get into the hobby and then upgrade. Having said that, my ten year old grandson has had a Traxxas Slash for about 8 months now and I have one, that coincidentally, is being delivered today. The 1/10th Spec Traxxas Slash race class is one that is offered on a dirt oval at our local RC track, so we're going to be racing them there. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the video. Its nice to see that others enjoy this RC as much as I do.
Glad you enjoyed it

Nice video, when comparing this mjx to scy 16101 pro in terms of robustness, which one is better?
That’s a great question. They are both really solid cars, but before you compare these two, remember that the SCY 16101 is 1/16th scale while the Hyper Go 14210 is 1/14th scale. The biggest difference between the two besides the scale is that the Hyper Go 14210 has an independent ESC and Receiver, while the 16101 has the ESC and Receiver combined in one unit. If you want to use a different remote-control radio, you need a receiver that’s independent from your ESC. The Hyper Go also comes with oil filled aluminum shocks while the Suchiyu cars are friction shocks. There are some other subtle differences, but overall, they are both really solid cars. My grandkids and I have bashed up some pretty durable Suchiyu cars in the 16101, 16102, and 16103 body styles and I’ve been very impressed with them, especially the Pro versions some of which come with metal wheel hubs in stead of plastic on some of them. The MJX Hyper Go is a really solid car too and they seem to be coming out with more hobby” grade cars. Both cars have a good brushless motor and lot’s of metal parts. The price point, metal gears, CVDs, and metal wheel hubs on some Pro models favors the Suchiyu cars. The independent ESC and Receiver, the oil filled shocks, and metal suspension parts, and for me the larger scale, favors the MJX Hyper Go. In the end, you’re not going to go wrong with either one of them.
Interesting arguments. Thanks a lot for your great explanation and feedback owing both of them.
can it mow grass tho?
Piece of junk. No slipper no center diff truck chews up input gears faster than cheese through a cheese grater. Just another budget Chinese junker.
Press the red button 5 times to unlock 3s super speed mode and 5 times to turn it off. Your welcome 😊
I think that it will only work for the H14BM version sold by amazon. The 14210 sold by AliExpress don't have that feature.
@@lsismeiro I asked my seller dkteam on ali same thing. They said yes they all do that. mmm I wonder now as I have yet to unbox myself😮
Have the 14210 the Feature or Not?

Nice and interesting video about your RC journey. Helen & I are long time friends with your sister Susan for last 30yrs. I’ve subscribed. As a long time RC airplane enthusiast ( easpecially electric gliders), I can relate to just HOW expensive and addictive a RC hobby can become. For the last 12 years I’ve been pretty heavily involved in flying very large molded carbon fiber Electric powered gliders in contests and for fun. The three planes I fly regularly in contests have 4Meter wingspans and cost $2-3000 each but are amazing pieces of technology. I have a local field in Chico I fly at but also belong to a RC glider club in davis that has its own very large grass field (hundreds of acres), where we fly our large gliders in club contests and for fun. I also have many other smaller cheaper planes I fly for fun too. If you’re interested, I could take you and your sons and grandsons out sometime. Meanwhile I’ll be following your journey on YT. I also have extensive experience going back 40yrs in RC. Jerry & Helen
Hey Jerry, Thanks for the comment. My grandkids would probably love to see some RC airplanes. They're probably too young to fly but they'd love to watch. Thanks. -- Ben
Just found it for $60
That's a really good deal if it's the Pro version with the brushless motor. Otherwise it might come with the brushed motor.
