Equating verses like Proverbs 16:9 to God controlling things and/or people is not just one of the biggest mistakes people make in Christin relationships, but in their Christian lives in general. It's not reassuring to think God is 'in control of everything' because if He is, then He is to blame for everything, including the singleness that people feel they are suffering with, which prevents people from trusting God in that area. I know so many bitter people that are 'waiting for God' instead of taking responsibility and improving themselves to be more attractive to the people they desire to be with. Furthermore, If God's so called plan is for that person to remain single and that conflicts with a person's desire for intimacy, then they will end up despising God and loosing trust in Him and all the Christians that advised them erroneously.

Many Christian men have a list because they know divorce is primarily initiated by women (including Christian women) and are looking for Fruit of the Spirit. Anything to reduce long-term risk.
