    Great vid mate, did you put those grips on the bike and if you did where did you get them? Are they Triumph grips or universal? Cheers..

      Thanks mate, I go those grips off eBay to fit the bars which are 1”. They are universal grips. Under $100, I put grip glue on also to get them secure. They are pretty comfortable also.

    Bought a Kawasaki W650 recently that's about 24 years old, and my first manually-advanced carbed vehicle (owned a carbed car once but that had an auto choke). Helpful video, given me a good idea of what the warmup process sounds like, especially since the Triumph America is a similar, albeit bigger, motor to the Kawasaki

    • @CapturingTheRide
      @CapturingTheRide 18 дней назад

      There’s just something about riding an old Carbed bike, there’s a distinct sound and feel to them. Especially being that you pull the choke to help start it. Enjoy that W650 of yours. I had a Suzuki Dr650 a few years ago and it was a great bike.

    From the USA here. I have a 2016 the last year of production. I bought it new and just love the bike. If I could have asked for one important change it would only be to have belt drive in lieu of chain. I've got bad knees and a weak right side and the lightness of the bike really helps me. Also that I can flat foot it with no problem. The bike is very rare here in the US and it is nice to not see them all over like HD's. When I ride with friends with HD's my bike gets more attention. I've got the big floorboards standard which helps a lot. I highly recommend then and the heal and toe shifter. I am afraid of what will happen for parts as the years go by. So far it has been perfect in reliability so only chain maintenance and oil changes. Maybe 5th gear could be a little higher so the engine rev's slower but the engine is so smooth it really doesn't matter except for fuel mileage I imagine would improve. For years now I have been trying to find a OEM backrest for it. I don't have a riding partner but it makes a secure holder for a seat bag. I still hope to get a riding partner someday. There is a bracket for a center stand but I have never seen it offered.

    That swag is great? Can't really see much difference than many others at half even a quarter of the price. To get it compact for on a bike. Ditch the foam mattress for and inflating one. Use a silk bag liner and wear thermals. What bag you use is up to you. My swag set up is quarter that size on my bike. Fits inside a Gear Sack Bag. I'll spend the money on petrol. Thanks anyway. Hey, Johan here from South Africa. I've been riding my '07 America for 6 years now. I love the bike for the same reason you do - seating position with the foot pegs forward. I mostly commute with the bike, but I've done some 200+Km trips as well. I didn't realize how hard it rides until I got my Tiger 800, but the Tiger's seating position strains my left hip and knee 😜. I won't ever sell my America, it is way too much fun to ride. Happy and safe riding.

  • @JasonTankard
    @JasonTankard 5 месяцев назад

    You can get much more compact air mattresses and sleeping bags if space is a concern, esp if you need 2 sleeping bags and 2 mattresses in there. You have a really good compact tent already though. I've actually swapped out the standard foam mattress in my swag for a narrower, single person self inflating air mattress much like the one you used in your tent (just with square corners) it keeps my swag far more compact. I throw down a small tarp, pin down the corners of my swag and sometimes prop up the front end, otherwise it just lays over me. I pack my swag roll on the rack, and the bag on my back seat as a back rest, it means far less weight further back, esp on the rack. However I'll shortly be swapping my whole kit around going for an offroad moto, and changing around all my camping gear for much smaller and lighter gear to keep the offroad maneuverability. It'll be interesting to see how I manage! The swag will become more for if I car camp now I think, or if I can get another different road bike again in the future.

    • @CapturingTheRide
      @CapturingTheRide 5 месяцев назад

      I like your ideas, I might have to try swapping out the swags mattress with an inflatable one. When I had an adventure bike this is the tent, mattress and sleeping back I took with me. It was great, but no way I could have taken the swag on the bike, definitely wouldn’t have fit. Cheers, Tony.

    • @JasonTankard
      @JasonTankard 5 месяцев назад

      Yeah a mattress like your tent one is great in a swag, just get one that is rectangle not mummy shape. And for the tent try something like Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Sleeping Mat. You can get more compact sleeping bags too, depending on season, can make swag smaller or tent setup if packing for 2 people.

    Alton goods has just brought out a hiking bivvy(swag). It is smaller but new technology with waterproofing and breathability. Combine it with their 3mX3m hiking tarp and you have a larger covered area but it would also be less than one quarter the size and weight of that swag once packed down. Could be worth looking at for anyone thinking of lightweight travel for bikes.
