I have almost zero issues with this series. This scene in particular was handled so well and did the Manga justice. Love the crack of the Dragon Slayer as it breaks the sound barrier!

1997 anime’s intro at the end got me like i am in a german highway man
I love how it portrays the Kushan as monstrous to the Knights. Many of the Knights who were capable died in the previous war with more than a few at Guts’ hand. Even if they were skilled the completely different style the Kushan use would throw them off. Best part for me is how the monstrous quality at the beginning changes once they start the fight with Guts, and their pupils come back making them just scared normal humans again.

Those scouts were bugs against dragon slayer. That hatred in every swing.
Funny how idiots hated on this years ago. It was not an ideal adaptation, but real fans totally understood. When you see this after having digested the whole series to this point, you know. Guts has *more.* This may seem like a regular MC badass moment against jobbers, but we've known the truth from early volumes... this is only how Guts fights HUMANS. Fuck around and find out when it comes to hellspawn.

@@Nombrenooriginal overall it's not great, but there's a bunch of good in it. What comes to mind immediately was the back and forth between Guts and Puck in Episode 3

@@Nombrenooriginal I didn't say it was great. But there were great moments peppered throughout. The first I saw (and I HATED episode one) was Puck & Guts bouncing off each other in episode 3, as well as Guts fighting the Holy Iron Chain in episode 2. My point has always been that while this adaptation has been weak, Berserk itself has undeniable moments that can make even something like this amazing from time to time... another one that comes to mind is Guts rushing to save Caska from the pseudo-Apostle. Brilliantly done. Don't call it "trash," just not up to standards as a whole.
The animation is fuck up but the entrance of Guts and the background music is fucking amazing

If you ask me, that Kushan who had his melon split by the dragon slayer had the most merficul of deaths. The other guys had to deal with multiple lost limbs.

Here is some real life history of the real life kushans: In real life, the kushans of India are known as protectors of the realm as they protected India from many foreign invasions such as invasions from Atila the Hun. Atila the mighty king that brought Rome to its knees (almost), was given a good rubbing on the ground by the Kushans... Also their King was Kanishka, the inspiration for the beserk character King Ganishka.

Two things; 1- Apparently it was supposed to be a combination of 2D & 3D animation but some bad blood and hatred between people in the production team made it impossible the two different groups working on things to work together. We're lucky to have even gotten this. 2- The 90s Berserk anime was great but it had even worse animation than this. It almost wouldn't be wrong to say the 90s version didn't have any animation since most of the 'movement' was simply 'camera tricks' to create the illusion of animation. I don't care about that kind of thing so I was fine with that one and the new one but it annoys me when people claim the animation of the 90s Berserk was 'better' when it barely had any at all.
