Val D'Aran by UTMB 110km European Major 2024
Join me as I take on the Val d’Aran by UTMB, a grueling 110km ultramarathon through the stunning Spanish Pyrenees Mountains. After months of training, this was definitely one of the most challenging things I've ever done. This race stretched me to the absolute limit!

I take on the UTA50K in the blue mountains the day after completing the UTA22. Last year I finished in 8 hours 20 minutes in rough shape, but this year I've been training much harder with a lot more hills training. Let's see if all that training has paid off!

This was my second ever ultra marathon. I felt like I learned a lot from my first ultra at UTA earlier in the year, so I was excited to see if I could put what I'd learned into practice and finish my second ultra marathon.

UAAAL😮 incrível essas trilhas. Parabéns cara👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great work mate, especially to just keep the forward momentum when things were tough. The mountains look amazing.
Thanks mate, they really were incredible!
Awesome video. Can I ask how you put the elevation overlay on the screen?
Thanks! I use Davinci resolve. In the fusion section I added an adjustment clip with a 'paint'. Also just used some PNG's with differing opacity and stuff. Let me know if you want more details!
@ Thank you very much.
just run
Amazing job!
Looked brutal. Great effort given the weather and elevation! Tarawera will be my 1st 100k, but have been injured since B2M. Didn’t run for 4 weeks and ran Kosci50, then ran one long run after and am out again for another month. T102 should be much easier than what you signed up for, so hoping experience and the mental side can get me through!
It was tough! Im doing the Tarawera 20k in Feb! best of luck with your recoveryand the T102!
First! 🎉
Hi, bro,How to complete the first 50K trail running from a rookie? any advices? and how to capture this kind of meaningful documentary?
Dean, the two hills what length and elevation were they each?
they were both about 450-500m elevation. the first one was about 4km and the second about 7km.
I'm re-watching this as I'm a week away from the 2024 edition of the 50km and feeling WAY underdone. Your strategy of tracking your heat rate, as a proxy for effort, for the first 30kms will likely be mine, likewise I plan to walk the inclines... thanks again for this, it's the insight/inspiration I need!
Thanks for watching! how did you go?!
Do you have strava? Im doing my first 50k in nov and this has really inspired me haha
Yes! check out my training videos to see my strava ;) that sounds awesome, best of luck with it!!
I didn’t expect much when I first tried Tongkat Ali, but it’s definitely added something to my runs. I take around 600mg on race day or when I’m pushing past 20km-along with my usual mix of electrolytes, energy gels, and sometimes caffeine or creatine-and it really seems to help with endurance and recovery. I’ve been getting less of that heavy-leg feeling, especially on the longer runs, and my recovery time feels quicker too. On regular training days, I keep it to about 200-400mg, which fits nicely with my usual vitamins and minerals. Honestly, if you’re a runner looking to keep your energy steady, it might be worth a shot. Just take it with your usual supplements; it’s a smooth addition to the routine! ALL THE BEST EVERYONE AND DON'T GIVE UP TO ALL YOU NEW RUNNERS! 💯
❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Well done. Great effort. 🏃🏻♂️💪🍾🍾
Good effort, keep it up🥰

Wooo epic race!!
Been waiting for this vid to drop. Awesome work Dean. I'm looking forward to completing myself for the first time after doing the UTA22 this year. How brutal was it going up Giants this year!
So brutal! so glad I took it a little easier at the start of the race this time!
Well done fellow shire runner!!

Superb video. I'm glad I've found your content, it's great and I share some of your goals.
That's awesome! glad you enjoy it!
Only just come across your channel, and it's been great seeing your progression since the UTA50 in 2023. Having done the UTA22 this year, I've caught the trail running bug. Missed out on a Kosci entry so doing the Bouddi Coastal Run instead and already signed up for the UTA50 next year. Can't wait! All the best for the Kosci100. Will be interested to see the progress and keep grinding and bringing out the vlogs. Loving them!
Thanks! starting to get very keen for Kosci now! Check out the 2024 UTA video I just posted to see some progress!
Really Cool
See you at Kosci 😎
woohoo!
Beatiful video man!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the inspiration Dean 👏👍

Great video series. Been fun watching your progress. I have a 118k here in Canada in Aug and the terrain/elevation is almost identical. What program are you using to see the course map?
In this video I was using google earth. I downloaded the course from the website and imported it to google earth.
@@deanrunning4112 Awesome thanks. Good luck Dean! Onward!!
I did my first 100k last year at Grindstone. One-third of the starters DNF'd. Unsolicited tips: Make sure your crew is there to get you through the aid station quickly, not to hear your race report. Don't be discovering your foot care (proper shoes, socks, blister avoidance) during the race. Be sure you know how the cut-off is determined (eg when leaving the aid station). DO NOT trudge the uphills. March up with purpose. You have the right idea in breaking up the course into (well-studied) sections. A 100k is not 50k times 2. More like two 50ks, then being hit by a bus and having to run/limp another 10-20k in the dark. But worth it. In your case (and Grindstone 2023) that extra 8km is noticeable. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.
Thanks for the tips!
You said younised powerade powder which helped with salts. What had you normally been using?
previously i had just been using water and Winners energy gels.

Thats awesome man. Youre an inspiration.
when is the cycling arc?
hahaha probably after I'm broken from my 100k
Cool editing mate - great vid! Good luck with the hills...

This is so positive and uplifting ❤
I can’t visit Australia because I won’t leave. When I do go it’s a one way ticket. I will make sure I’m ready to join this race
Nice video, I did the Kosciusko UTA marathon 2 years ago and the lack of salts (my inexperience) killed me the last 5kms. I finished but vowed to get this part right next time.
that was great to watch thank you!
Nice one mate
yeah yeah whatever bro, running is easy yap yap yap

Ultramarathon in Australia, running from one boring shit flat location to the next. Get a passport and climb Kilimanjaro, Everest Basecamp, or the volcanos of Indonesia.! But these are the insular idiots that hate overseas travel and wish the borders were still closed.
What start group were you for the 50? Hope it went better than last time. I went almost 2 hrs better than my first one last year
Start group 5. Well done! I did 50 minutes better than last year!
@@deanrunning4112 nice. I was expecting to finish after the stairs but that extra 3km was brutal
Good luck ! Great place and a great race
time??
