The Edelrid Pinch | Featuring Tommy Caldwell
The EDELRID Pinch is an assisted braking belay device which connects without the use of a carabiner to a belay loop or anchor. It acts and feels like a compact device while giving direct feedback when belaying and also provides safe handling and increased efficiency when feeding out rope. The Pinch comes with a anti-panic function that activates if the brake lever is pulled too far back, making the Pinch the ideal belay device for beginners. The brake grooves are made of steel for longevity and improved control when lowering and abseiling. This new device is ideal for sport climbing, multi-pitch climbing and is useful in certain rope access scenarios.

NEW La Sportiva Miura VS Climbing Shoe for 2023
If HowNot2 has taught us anything it's that unproven fears like cross loading is nothing to worry about
hmm, still waiting for an Independent review
If you have any specific questions, let us know. We have had a pre-production sample for quite some time now and can provide feedback on anything you’re curious about. As a store that sells many different belay devices, our bias is minimal, and we are realistic with the idea that no single item is perfect for everything. Once the Pinch is available for purchase, we will most likely produce an independent opinion video on it, similar to what we did for the Neox.
Does it have the weird thumb press thing when paying out slack quickly like the gri gri? Or does it just feed without it like the neox or lifeguard?
It does pay out slack slightly easier than a Grigri, although it’s not as smooth as a Neox, which is in a league of its own when it comes to this. Again, it's definitely an improvement over the Grigri in this regard, although you will still find yourself using the thumb press trick at times. You can see when Tommy is feeding out slack in the video that he is actually using this technique.
Funny how one of the worse feature of grigri+ so called anti panic mode is copied. At least they realize that iris annoying enough to tell you how to deactivate it.
It is quite nice being able to block it out completely.
whats the scoop with this light? I can't find any information on the brand or find any reviews for this product
You can find out more on our website at: climbonequipment.com/products/meige-rechargeable-flood-light-mobile-power-bank?_pos=1&_psq=meige&_ss=e&_v=1.0 So far people have been quite impressed with it for the price. It’s definitely not the best light on a pure technical bases although for the price it’s out right amazing and outsells the other models that we stock.
Funny that Petzl glove
You can’t fault us for being biased to one brand over the other 😃
Definitely excited to try this out
Be sure to let us know what you think. Hopefully they become available soon.
Love to see Tommy “I’ve been climbing for a long time” Caldwell give us his two cents 😂 Great little intro video! I appreciated Tommy’s comments about simul climbing.
Glad you enjoyed it. The use case of the direct attachment for simul climbing is one I never thought of till he said it but definitely makes a lot of sense.
love how they say "other mechanical belay devices" when they obviously mean a grigri
You know it!
Canadian woman Jasmin Caton sent the Freerider circa 2012 6 yrs before Bronwyn
Hey Colin, during Jasmine’s 2012 ascent of Freerider, she did not lead every pitch cleanly, which she documents well on her blog. Both she and Evan fell while leading the crux pitch, along with one other pitch. Although they eventually top-roped these pitches clean, they never got them on lead.
How does it compare to the Revo?
Despite the Revo being decently smooth at pulling rope through it the Neox is even smoother when it comes to lead climbing. For hang-dog style top roping the Revo might be a bit nicer since it’s bit more grabby One of the biggest differences when compared to the Revo is how smooth it disengages after being in the locked position. I always found the Revo quite grabby. With the Neox you can simply just lean forward, unweighting the rope and things start moving again which is quite nice. No real need to manually manipulate the device which makes it quite enjoyable to use.
I think the third piece is redundant, I would have paired the kor + alpha + sunblocker
2:15 hopefully beeing belayed feels the same on every device.
hopefully... 🤞
Also how big is that rope tarp on the crag wagon? I only ask because my 70m rope spills over the integrated rope tarp of my Petzl Kliff bag and its quite annoying
The Crag Wagon tarp is roughly 3X4 feet. If you are looking for a larger rope tarp for your current bag we sell the Mammut Neon Rope Tarp which can hold up to an 80M 9.8mm rope.
Maybe this is a recent development, but I believe the crag wagon also comes in a 35L version as well as the 45 and 60L ones you mentioned
You are correct. There are now 35L and 45L models, as well as the 60L. This video is a few years old, and our current stock reflects the latest models.
hello guys! I´m getting hard into this discipline and thinking very counsciously about this shoe. I know that confort at the beggining is important but I know that my progress will be quick. On the other hand I have a wide foot, high instep and 28cm lenght. My thougths are bewteen the Otaki and Kubo (both on 10.5 US). I know that the Otaki is a higher performance shoe but, as I said, my progression will be quick and I don´t want to buy another shoe on the short term so, which one would you recommend? Your comments shall be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
It’s amazing you’re fired up about getting into climbing and putting so much thought into your shoes. The Kubo vs. Otaki should not be looked at as a beginner vs. entry-level shoe, but rather as two different shoes with different characteristics. Most notably, the Kubo is quite a bit softer and has rubber on top of the toe box for toe hooking. This would make the Kubo more ideal for routes that involve toe hooks or benefit from a softer shoe, such as indoor volumes or outdoor smearing. You will also have better sensitivity with the Kubo. On the flip side, the Otaki is stiffer, making it ideal for vertical edging on the smallest of holds; however, this does come at the cost of less sensitivity. Although these are the shoes' strengths, they are still considered all-around shoes, making them both quite versatile. The biggest tip for someone like yourself is to choose a shoe that fits rather than one that has the features you want. A Kubo that fits perfectly will edge better than a poorly fitted Otaki. Secondly, don’t worry too much about choosing the wrong style of shoe. Shoes don’t last forever, especially when you are newer and still learning good footwork. The reality is if you don’t like your first pair of shoes, you will be able to try something different when they wear out.
@@climbonequipment I really appreciate you guys taking time to explain with details in order to share your knowlledge with this rookie. It meant a world to me. Now I know I have to take it easy and just try to have fun and I'll focus on comfort so I´m going for the Aragon model. You guys rock!
You're welcome and remember, the best climber is the one having the most fun! (quote from the late Alex Lowe)
Does the Neox twist the rope up like the grigri into a pile of coils?
It is less likely to twist the rope compared to the GRIGRI when belaying however if you are trying to drag someone up on TR or lowering them and excessively use the the right hand side friction plate you will most likely induce some twists. So far I have yet to have a super twisted rope as a result of the NEOX although I know it will happen at some point as that’s just the nature of these things. Generally speaking the straighter the rope can travel the less twists will be created.
This is perfect for me. My gym has recently switched over to assisted braking devices only so tubular style devices are not allowed. Been lead belaying with an ATC for almost 10 years and didn’t like the feel of feeding rope with a Grigri. If this Neox is close to the smoothness of an ATC, I’m all for it. I don’t mind that it’s heavier.
Sounds like a perfect match for you! The learning curve going from ATC -> NEOX is waaay lower than it is going to a GRIGRI, especially for lead climbing.
I'd say it actually feels smoother than an atc!
@@redanansi that’s amazing. I wonder if the heft of the device contributes to that, since the weight provides more stability. Kinda like how a sinker works with a fishing lure if that makes any sense. Anyway, I have an orange one on order!
@redanansi, I totally agree
Have a NEOX on order. Looking forward to it. I have a grigri, but I really don't like to override the cam. I prefer the belay technique where you don't override the grigri cam and the NEOX will be perfect for me.
Great to hear you have one on order! It sounds like the NEOX is perfect for you. I have personally been quite pleasantly surprised by how well it handles.
@@climbonequipment Great job on this video. Explains some questions I had on the device.
Thank you 🙏 We appreciate the support
Do you guys have any thoughts on using it for Lead Rope Solo?
Based on our initial testing, we would not recommend this. In addition to the potential issue of the device not grabbing fast enough, there is also the risk of the breaking mechanism or handle getting blocked, preventing it from engaging at all.
0:50 PEZTL
You wait years for a new climbing device and then three come along at once.
That’s definitely true, especially with Petzl.
Best rep in the biz!
No doubt Ross is one of our favorites!
I’m gonna need one of these
It’s one of those things that once you have it you question how you went so long without it.
Can you trade in your old ohm
Haha, if only it was that easy!
unfortunately, small sizes of Z4 (those with one axis) have the risk of one pair of cams rotating, which makes it impossible to embed them in the rock; this problem does not occur in small X4 and other microcams; this is a serious problem (obviously a design problem), but it can be fixed with home methods;
Annyoing music and video editing, can barely hear the guy and see the actual carabiners.

I have issues saving the data. It says “Type in a tag”. Do you know how to resolve this?
Thanks for reaching out! When saving data you need to create a tag to save your data under. For the first time you can type in the tag after your workout. The most common tagging strategy is left hand and right hand although you can create as many tags as you’d like. Once created you can simply choose any of your existing tags for your data to be saved under. Hope this helps.
theory and drago not mentioned is suprising in my experience they have been amazing to use def rec
We do not stock the Theory and just received stock of the Drago shortly after this was shot. We will be featuring the Drago in our next installment of this series, which should be out in a couple of weeks. We will also have a few of the new no-edge shoes from La Sportiva, such as the Mandala, later this spring.

Very nice to hear the resole possability mentioned 💞
It’s always a shame to see perfectly good shoes going into the garbage because of one tiny hole in the rubber. 💚

i have tried so many brandsfor 20 years and i finally found Tenaya keeps my feet healthier and the performance is grate.
What model did you end up with? Many Tenaya fans tend to agree with you. They are definitely one of the more comfortable performance shoes on our wall.
@@climbonequipment i wear the mastia and the indalo models. Very confortable and aweosome performance
@@c-trescuenca4344 Mastias are good, my only issue is the rubber isn't as good as La Sportiva and Evolv.
no 5.10, no madrock?
Sadly, Adidas has moved away from climbing with the 5.10 brand. The good news is Unparallel is run by the same folks who originally started up 5.10. Many of the Unparallel models resemble some of the old 5.10 classics. As for Mad Rock, we do not currently sell any of their products.

Does the bar add-on also fit the old attache? They look similar enough...
In addition to the newest ATTACHE, the BAR is also compatible with the previous ATTACHE (M38A SL). It is not compatible with any Attache that is older than the M38A model.
Great video, great content. But please drop the music. It's competing with the presentation. I can't follow the details in the talk, and it's a noob move to include such in-your-face-music.
music is annoying, i cant barely hear the guy
Do a short one for approach shoes?
We can probably make that happen! Stay tuned :)
the music is really too loud!
Thanks for the feedback 👍
I feel like if you have dead space in your heels(which i always do) the best shoe is the instinct VS. However, i cannot just get smaller shoes as my toes are painful as heck, its not the 1980s anymore and shoes shouldnt have to hurt that much to get a tight sock fit from your shoes without pain
Well said and I agree, pain is not an indicator of higher performance.
