What’s this channel about?
Well, it's one slightly fat bloke's adventures outdoors with his canoe, bike, and 7 1/4" gauge steam loco 'Iceni' (from which the channel gets its name) enjoying getting out when I can for a steam-up or just some fresh air, relaxation and visiting places of interest. I'm hoping to document as many of these mini “adventures before dementia" while I still can so that I, my family, and anyone else with an interest can enjoy these precious memories later on.

A weekend away at my favourite little railway on the fens, staying overnight at the Dunham's Wood Light Railway and another session of playing with small trains. We try out another French Combat Ration pack, and enjoy a good night's kip in the project micro camper.

Back at the Dunham's Wood Light Railway for the first public running day of the 2024 season. It was a little bit of a late start this year for the railway due to issues with sorting out visitor car parking, which has now been resolved thankfully. Hi there, I bought one of these as a replacement for its predisesor, the eurohike dome 2. I do a lot of camping, I love the eurohike dome 2, but think it has been discontinued, or I would buy another, I do a lot of camping, on motorcycle last year an 8 week run to Istanbul.. This tent, I bought two years ago, and tried putting up in garden. I was quite disappointed in it. 1, the tentpoles are not smooth, and difficult to thread through pole tunnels. 2, the piles seem too long to feed into the attachments. It's as though the tent is to small for the piles. 3, there is hardly any ventilation just a small skylight at top.. 4, you cannot see out, without opening the door. I tried putting up again after coming back from tour de france, camping last week, and now sure I will not use it. I have shortened the poles off this, for my old eurohike dome 3. Which are splitting, the only fault I have had with it. The eurohike cairns 2 DLX is the only tent I have ever bought and never camped out in. If anyone wants it, you can have it for free, but youll6have to supply the poles.. sorry for the ramble, best wishes..
@@tonyshortland8812 I must admit I did struggle getting the poles onto the pins at the corners, but for the price I still consider it good value for money. I do use my (now 3 year old) Avon 3 a heck of a lot as it is a bigger, better tent, so haven’t had the Cairns out at all this year. I still stand by my original review however, at the end of the day it’s a cheap tent, it ain’t gonna tick all the boxes.

@@JamiedoesWildBikepacking Thanks Jamie, that means a lot. It was partly your van camps with Jay that inspired me to pull my finger out and get on with it. I took her out on Sunday night for a night out up the North Norfolk coast, found a lovely spot right next to the beach, video of that will probably go up tomorrow night. What about a meet up some time for a night of ales, vans and general tom-foolery?

@@garethjones1827 In theory, I would imagine it’s possible as the inner is only attached with loops and toggles. Might give it a go next time I use it.

I have the three man version of this tent, i drove the NC500, i was very in two minds to take it. Omg we got stuck in ullapool for three days during a storm, the wind and rain was unreal but the tent faired up very well. The only thing was a bit of water came in at the corners on the bottom by the zip, nothing to write home about. For the price we could not complain. Ive still got it and still use it quite often.

It should be big enough I reckon, certainly should be waterproof enough for a 3 dayer. Have a great time and don’t forget to take it and your rubbish home afterwards, leave no trace! 😉👍
Yes Decathlon double air bed fits in it. Good for one person. Blackout important for Glastonbury mornings.

Thanks, yes the saw might get modified or at least the blade will be repurposed, so not entirely useless I guess. As for the noises, there was some strange hoarse quacking around the site. 😉😆
Good effort enjoy
Just did (last month) 3 days wild camping in Scotland with one of these - 0c and stormy - tent held up really well - but that door being on such an angle really is a rain magnet if left open so I took a tarp to make a huge porch over the front of tent - worked really really well. My only criticism is the gap / looseness on the back side of outer tent - let far too much cold air in / that edge of inner tent was freezing. As this video says , could do with another tie-down point along that back edge & perhaps a bit of skirting.

I liked that tent too. Even tge high end tents gather condensation to a certain degree. Just that way it is with tents. Ni e little ride mate. I recall that trip out to the old train station last year. That was a lovely summer day out👍
It’s not a bad little tent, nice and light, doesn’t take up a lot of room but a generous sleeping space. I wouldn’t want to spend more than a couple of nights in it though. Yes, you might recognise the video as it was originally a two-part one. I’ve just bodged the two together to make a feature length bore-fest! 😉👍
I found that if you hold the striker against the Ferro rod and then pull the rod , sharply , back against the striker you don't move your target material. No forward movement to disturb a darn thing. Plus you can have the striker really close to what you want to light.

I kept seeing that stove pop up on instagram and wondered what they were like! Cool little review. I might get something like that for my vanlife-life and adventures….it won’t be long before I can sit outside under the awning and enjoy wildcamp TV. 👍
It’s not a bad little stove to be fair, although it does choke up with ash after a couple of hours. Worth the money though, have a look at my latest video where it gets dragged out again to cook my dinner, it did the job well.
Nice review there Paul. Might not be the best tent but put a waterproof tarp over it as good as any. Not all of us can afford the robins tent that the RUclips influencers. (Not you). That they get for free and try to sell them to us. Your channel is what you see is what you get. Well done.
Thanks Colin, yes in my case all the stuff I try out is bought with my own money and is bought to be used not simply tested once and given away. I have a very limited budget when it comes to buying gear, as like many others in this day and age, I don’t have vast amounts of cash to throw at too of the range gear, or sponsors that are willing to send me free gear to try out. As nice as that idea is, it just isn’t going to happen with a channel as small and niche as mine. Thanks again for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video. 😁👍

That tent looks virtually identical to the Yellowstone Matterhorn tent I just bought for £25 on ebay. Quite like it for the price!
Probably is the same, I should imagine they’re mass produced in somewhere like China or India and then different manufacturers names (and prices) added in after. It’s a decent little tent, certainly kept the rain out and will definitely be getting another outing some time soon.
