Hello and welcome back. After nearly 4 months of cold wintery weather in Adelaide I decided to head back North this time using my VW T3. It was the first opportunity I had to perform this and to visit Kings Canyon was a thriller to be there. The van drove very well the whole 4,000km I did. As a former Territorian I just can’t help not coming back to the Red Centre in one of my Kombis. I love the drive and just the beautiful sunny Days we have in the Territory. Nice camper , so what are the specs for your 1.8 , the HP & torque , and at what rpms ? I have a 1.7 I would like to build , it puts out 64 hp in stock configuration, I am not sure of the ft . lbs . It is just a guess , I’m thinking maybe around 90 . Any ways , nice Van hope get a lot of fun miles in it !
@@dennislockwood246 G’day Dennis. Glad you liked the video. At 3200 rpm with 75 HP Twin webbers compression ratio is 10.1 this Kombi easily does 100km/h. In addition to this I’m also using an 091 transmission that features the 4.57 final drive diff ratio. This is very important with these Aircooled motors. This one is one of 4 kombi’s I have and elected to do its original 1.8 Litre motor with Shane over here. I personally like the 1.8 as it is much more free revving than the one you have (1.7) and even the 2Litre. Good fun to drive though. Thanks. Ari.

Hi there Emmanual. Glad you liked the video. I bought the Tachometer. But my auto electrician fitted it in. He was very smart to do that in many ways. The bigger unit from VDO that I’m using is the best. Make sure your distributor matches this. May need an extra resistor. Sorry for delay.

Howdy Greg. I’m absolutely stoked that you liked my video. Just as much as I like to watch your’s too. I’m my opinion the 1800cc VW engine … even at the time was a very good and fast revving motor. In my spare time I strip and clean my spare engines and their parts for another life. Thanks so much once again. Ari.
Good video, I had 1600 campervan when I was travelling in England and Europe way back in 1974 and it was a great van, but I'm sure it would have been better with an engine like yours. As for Sopru campervan conversions here's a bit of extra information for you. I grew up in Kilburn and remember Sopru campervan conversions well as I used to attend the church over the road from the Sopru workshop as a kid. Many years later when I was working as a technician with IBM we used to fly out to country locations to fix ATMs and POS terminals and I got to know Erno Sopru well as he was one of the pilots that used to fly us. Sadly Erno lost his life when the plane he was flying crashed on Eyre Peninsula on June 9 in 1988 and to commemorate the life of her late husband, Coraine Sopru donated her husband’s Cessna 310 airplane VH-KRZ on permanent loan to Parafield Airport in 2018. The aircraft, on the corner of Kings and Main North Roads, is a memorial to Erno and all who have lost their lives in the course of their aviation careers.

@@Volkswagenbyari I have noticed that the gear box shift seems to be stiff. The previous owner say that they had it serviced..not sure why I'm bruising my hand trying to change gears

I am a person who knows nothing about motor vehicles. I feel that if someone like me purchased an old camper van and then took off on a long trip, I would be playing with likely trouble and problems.
