Great band, great guys, great music. It doesn't get any better. Tom Johnston is one of my favorite musicians.

I have played their music my whole life and hung out with them a few times with my cousin who is friends with them. These guys are such excellent musicians. The tunes are so well crafted and so intensely musical. They have sophistication but they never sacrifice the rockin. So many little things that are so cool. One example would be the little half step up and down movement in JESUS IS JUST ALRIGHT between refrains. And the 2 different breakdowns in LONG TRAIN RUNNIN. Most bands would keep that breakdown the same. And CHINA GROVE… bringing the progression leading into the hook up chromatically in half steps to the C chord and holding for drum fill, and then into the chorus. Very cool. So many little things like that. They really are quite excellent. Beautiful music guys.

What happened with the bassist Tiran Porter? He's the original one from the 70's I think I saw him on an interview not so long ago so I thought he was gonna be part of the 50th anniversary with the original band members.
