Very helpful......thank you so much
So glad it helped you! Happy New Year!
Thank you. ❤
I want to make a queen size on point quilt using 10 inch squares. Do you have a pattern?
Hi thanks for viewing our channel. We do not have a pattern for a queen layout however, I have attached a link that may be of help to achieve the size you want. www.allpeoplequilt.com/how-to-quilt/setting-triangles-and-setting-squares
Thank you! There are so many tutorials about sewing the binding, but most don't tell you how to complete this very fundamental step! I'm finishing my first quilt, and this is exactly what I needed.
This will likely be a stupid question, but I just found this video, and was wondering why the 15” square ruler wasn’t used to cut the 15” square? I don’t have the 15” ruler (but will definitely get one based on your suggestion), is it impractical to use it in this situation?
Thanks for watching! You certainly could use a 15" ruler to make it easier, however I chose to use 2 standard size rulers that most quilters own. That way they did not have to go to the expense of buying another $40 ruler. Also it teaches you how to use 2 rulers together to reach a specific measurement. Hope this answers your question.
Oh duh! That totally makes sense. I rewatched the video and you clearly explained that concept - sorry to bug! Thank you!
@@thebeknighted No bugging at all glad I could help!
I'm a super newbie and just want to cut out an 18" and 12" square from a 1/2 yard for a project. I can't figure it out and can't find any tutorial for such a thing...everything but. I don't want to fold the fabric over and over as I don't want doubles. Thank you
Welcome to quilting! First open the 1/2 yard of fabric so you have a single layer. Press it well. While still a single layer cut it half so you have 2 - 18" x 22" pieces. Then from 1 piece cut an 18" square and from the remaining piece (18" x 22") cut the 12" square. Hope that helps.
Please, which way do the triangles go on the end squares? And do the corner pieces go on differen tly?thanks, i love how u go slowly.
Hi thanks for watching our video! The setting squares are sewn to the end of each row. Sew the squares first then add the setting triangles. Tip: layout the sewn block rows and then row by row add the setting triangles. This will help determine the direction of the setting triangles. Always sew the corner triangles after the rows are sewn together, the corners are last.
Jill, you are a lifesaver! I searched and searched for a video on how to cut a 30" square of minky fabric to make a baby blanket and my daughter found this video! As you know, minky fabric is very difficult to work with and to cut square. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
That looks so easy. Thank you for not going to fast. I'm going to try that for my next crib quilt.
So glad it helped!
I'm a complete beginner, so this might be a stupid question, but how do I get the measurements of the setting triangles right? You said that you just would have a 'square with the proper measurements'. But how do I get them?
Please do a search for cutting setting triangles and a chart will show up. This will guide you for cutting the setting triangles. Thanks for watching!
could you tell me how I would cut a 40" x 40" as I am trying to make a binding baby blanket ~ I am all new to this ~ thank you
I did exactly what you said and ended up with strips ~ so disappointed because I now have to discard the fabric
So sorry that happened. You must have cut the folds instead of the raw edges as stated.
Making my own receiving blankets and this will help a lot, thanks for sharing.
Hello, enjoyed the video. Can you make a video on how to use the 15" ruler? Perhaps the 15" ruler will provide less manipulation of the rulers to make the square. Thank you.
Looked high and low for a tutorial like this! Thanks!
Can use this to make a 40 inch square? This has helped me so much.
This is what I have been looking for all night. Thank you!!!
So glad it helped!
Thank you. This was so easy to follow.

Best video on YT on how to square to a 30in block. It works out so well when trying to make a baby self binding blanket thank you so much because I was struggling 🤗😃
You are so welcome!
Same! I just folded my fabrics like you would a piece of paper to make it a square. 😂😂😂 it worked! But I needed this video! Saved!!
Same project I needed my square fabric for too!
Yes! I was doing the same project with minky fabric and this tutorial was a lifesaver!
Thank you for your easy to follow directions. You make everything feel easy! We make mistakes "because we are human and we sew".....great!
Thanks for watching!
As a new quilter I just used my ruler and the lines on my mat. Then a few days ago I discovered this idea of using two rulers. My word, how easy was it!
So glad it helped!
I want to make them all!!!!! My husband would love the manly one and great placemats for 4th of July bbq!! And of course I have to make that quilt.
Thank you for watching!
That pillow is so dang adorable!!!!! I love 💕 it
Such a beautiful block and elegant stitching! Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you so much!
Awesome advice and display on how to hand quilt. I've never done it, but am going to start. I crochet, cross stitch and machine quilt & sew, as well as hits starting embroidery too. I'm really looking forward to hand quilting some special projects, however I have a very limited amount of time to sew as I'm raising two grandsons ages 4yr & 6 yrs old and a 2 yr old part time as well..So that makes it hard for grandma to have me/ alone time to sew or do anything else for that matter. Lol. Thank you and God bless you.
Even 10 minutes a day of hand quilting is wonderful!
Fun tips and tricks. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thank you!
What is the extra 1/2 inch edge for? I'm thinking seam allowance? I've never used a rotary cutter/mat before.
Yes the 1/2’ is for seam allowance. We always use a 1/4” seam allowance when piecing quilt blocks. Thanks for watching.
Such a pretty quilt block! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching and hope it helped you!
Very cute tool. Thanks.
Thanks for watching, the Thread Cutter really works great!
I think you did a great job showing and explaining how to square up fabric. Thanks very much!
Thank you so much!
I love hand quilting!! Thanks for sharing your work and ideas!
Thanks for watching!
I am just curious about one thing. Don't you trust the cutting lines on your cutting mat? Wouldn't it just be easier to use the lines on your cutting mat rather than finagle the rulers? I do love the video and I am going to use your method as I was driving myself nuts trying to figure out an easy way to cut 30 inch square piece of fabric. Thank you for showing me the way!
Thanks for your comment. If you use the lines on your mat you will never get a square cut it is just not as accurate as the rulers. It may look straight on the mat but it will not be perfectly square.
@@SunFlowerQuiltsTX Thank you! I got two cut out and it was so easy! May you receive blessings back to you as this video blesses others. You helped me immensely!
Thanks for your kind words!
