I think starting early was good to avoid traffic. That road can be dangerously busy. I had a flashing head light and a good tail light to help with visibility. I think this time of year, the big concern is now the weather. I imagine it will be very cold at the high elevations (could even see some snow). I brought extra layers for the ride back down because it is colder plus you are moving faster downhill. Enjoy the ride and have fun!Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching! Hope you have a good trip and fall colors. It was a tough climb up to Mt. Sterling but worth it since we had more energy at the beginning. It was nearly all downhill after that.

We didn’t see any bear or wild boar at that time. There was a fair amount of foot traffic in the area which may deter wildlife to some extent. We stayed at the cable crossing campsite, but all the camps seem like good places to stay. I would imagine the waterfalls will be good for you this time of year. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I believe I was running 34x20 that day. That bike had 27.5+ tires on, so not the lightest but lots of fun. I ran that course later in the summer with 34x21 gearing, and I felt like I was wearing myself out spinning more with that bigger 21T rear cog.
