The music at 07:00 reminds me of the musical score on the 007 film moonraker. Has a very similar structure, who knows maybe the person who did the score was inspired by that..?
I heard the composer conduct this in San Francisco and when he concluded I wept tears of joy.
maravillosa la entrada de la percusión en el primer tiempo.

Одна из самых красивых
The symphony died in 1975, and no wonder if this is the short of thing that wins acclaim. Incoherent trills, flutters and stabs it is never going to become canonical. Back to Brahms, I suppose.
A sadly sparse audience!
Perfect performance, parfait
A timpanist dream solo at the very end with his drums in the American configuration. BRAVO
There's always some jackass who yells "Bravo!" not a second after the piece ends... Ruins the mood, especially in a piece of introspective character, like this one.
So difficult to get right. I heard this performed in St Giles Church at a John Adams Barbican weekend in London. It was that good John Adams walked out - right down the centre aisle.
Lento it's amazing ❤
the encore piece: Christoph Willibald Gluck, Orphée et Eurydice : Mélodie
what is the encore piece?
27:54 reminds me of the 4th movement of Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 😊
7.25 reminds me of Lloyd Webbers The Phantom of the Opera.....
Absolutely fantastic.

Peter Pears to mistrz i jego mistrz B. Britten mistrze nad mistrzami🙂
Grande , grandissima sinfonia! Travolgente lo stretto della fuga nel finale... Ottima esecuzione! Walton uno dei geni del Xx secolo..
Isn't it awful how the musicians bows go this way and that way and back and forth and fourth and back
Rizz
Frank Peter Zimmermann , ecco un violinista che ammiro davvero tanto !
The happiest music ever. I love it so, with a tear. An unknowing youngster where I work is named Darius, and I've told him how proud he should be of his name.
Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts like a scare crow being blown around by the wind. I expect to see hay coming out of him soon.

Très belle interprétation pour cette magnifique Symphonie !
Too good to be true. This is one of the greatest symphonic works ever written. Lutoslawski’s supreme masterpiece.
Bravo! I think this is the 2nd time I've listened to this performance. This concerto deserves to be in the concert repertory. Searching for comparisons, this reminds me of Berg's masterpiece (though this is I think essentially tonal, not dodecaphonic), and of Britten's--which opens with a Spanish rhythm. The sound world here resembles that of Britten I think (who had, not long before his early masterpiece, thought of following in Berg's footsteps), except that here the only calm comes in the last 2-3 minutes, and ends with--what? Is it a question, a searching, finally lost in silence? Britten's drawn out finale is clearly melancholic. Maybe part of the emotional meaning here (if I may so speak) is to leave us wanting more. And I do! Thanks for posting.
It’s always interesting to me that people find Lutoslawski avant-garde. To me this is incredibly palatable and it’s a shame I’ve seen so many comments about people walking out of the concert. For the most part you can sense a pulse during much of the piece and that road map alone should keep people engaged. I find the piece to be structurally textural so I believe most negative criticism comes from people looking to find harmonic familiarity when that’s not the focus. I love Lutoslawski’s music but for me it sometimes annoyingly adheres to a strict followable pulse but what I love the most is that he has 10,000 ideas and most are musically connected with transitions. This also helps the listener feel the formalist pulse I had just criticized the piece for ha!
what a film ,what a score, american cinema at its finest.
I need this to be performed in Hong Kong now!
Maybe as much as the 2nd vn .concerto I never get enough of hearing this. Did Boulez programme early Penderecky ? Are there students of his who kept his older style and extended ut. Who studied with him?
eyes of an angel
Beautiful melodies and scary lirics
Bravissimi!
It's starts off Bartok then goes to Vaughan Willams at 04:12
Quite an imaginative work. Love the sarcastic oompah-pahs at the end.
Does anyone know what kind of nice thunderous drums are used at 4:44?
Todo un poema esta maravillosa sinfonía 7 del genial S. Prokofiev.y qué mejor que con esta grandiosa orquesta y su exelente director ❤❤❤.
I first heard this on my local classical radio station while driving. I was so transfixed I kept listning while parked in the driveway at home. How many others listening here have had the same experience, when you hear something that so affects you, you can't turn it off. After that I of course had to look for a recording, purchased the same day.
On sent une influence de Debussy.
Linda obra para Percussão e grande orquestra. Adorei os glissandos nas cordas e metais. MacMillan sempre surpreendente de contemporaneidade!!!
A fine performance of a fascinating concerto-symphony. However the videographer didn't know where to point the cameras. Shame.....
I had the pleasure of being part of a small compostion class given by Lutoslawski in which he analysed The Michaux Poems and Jeux Venetiens. I was so interested in the way the Michaux was notated that Witold lent me his own score overnight for me to study. That is one of the unforgettable moments in my life. I love his music.
My wife and I attended the premiere of the 4th in LA conducted by the composer. Because we paid for Founders tickets we got to meet him. When I was in grad school I analyzed several of his compositions…..obviously a big fan.
