Wow ! Been trying to find this everywhere for years , after hearing it only once before , on radio . In 1960 here in Australia , Lonnie Lee , an acclaimed Rock "N" Roller , had a massively successful chart topping version of this number which , although much like this great original issue here , was expressed in a contemporary pop music style with resonant backing harmonies and rich orchestration . Some 20 years or so ago I met Lonnie Lee who I found to be a charming and affable person , yet when I told him that I'd heard this Portuguese Joe original , astonishingly , he reacted with a surprised demeanor , asking me how it sounded because he had not himself ever heard it ! ! Incidentally , I think Lonnie is still performing , doing the club circuit .
