Welcome to my 4m2balconygarden! I'm Cristina and I own a small south-facing balcony in Romania (zone 7b).
I've started a small garden on my balcony two years ago, and in December I decided I wanted to capture how it changes over the course of the year. I'm not a professional gardener, I'm only sharing my experiences and experiments.

#11 November: Planting Over 200 Spring Bulbs on My Balcony | Autumn Garden Journal 🌷🌼🌱 #silentvlog
Welcome to my @4m2balconygarden balcony garden journal! 🌿 This month, I took advantage of the last warm days of autumn and planted over 200 spring bulbs, including tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and more. 🌸 This was a very chaotic planting session, so the video is a bit like that too.
I also added frost-resistant pansies to my planters and harvested the first lettuce of the season! 🥬 While my balcony garden is getting ready for winter, I'm already planning for next season.

I understand. It's not always easy to find time for it.
A warm greeting and a subscribe from Vietnam! Wishing you good health and success!! 💕💕💕
Thank you! Wishing you the same!
I love the lasagna method! That's gonna look spectacular ❤
Yes, they look like huge flower bouquets. I do this every year.
I can't wait to see your bulbs in bloom in the Spring. You really take advantage of every inch of your little balcony. It's very motivating for those who think they don't have enough space to garden.
Me too 😊 Thank you. I'm also surprised by how many plants can grow in this little space.
how long take root
They take about two to three weeks to start growing.
That size container, only 1 zucchini 😎
❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘😘🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
The praying mantis was amazing! I just potted up a lot of bulbs to be kept in a cold greenhouse over winter. Do I need to water them now once and just leave until they go outside in spring, or leave them 'dry' over the winter?
You should water thoroughly now, and then leave them until the first leaves start to emerge in spring. Next month's journal will be all about bulbs.
@@4m2balconygarden thank you!

❤❤so very nice vlog
Thank you 😊
Hi Cristina, don’t get discouraged by the issues with your plants over the summer. You probably just need to adjust the watering. I also have to be very careful since my balconies face south. With the cooler autumn and winter weather, this becomes less of a problem. I’ve planted Tuscan black kale, kale, pak choi, and various lettuces. The marigolds are still blooming, as are the calendulas, and nasturtium seedlings are sprouting from scattered seeds. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! My disappointment mostly comes from the fact that last year I was drowning in tomatoes, and this year I had maybe ten. There's always a lot to learn from this, and I'm looking forward for upcoming months. I also would like to try kale, if I can find a small variety. Such a good idea to grow calendulas and nasturtiums in autumn.
Man labai patinka sodas balkone...
Thank you 😊 Sorry that your balcony garden failed, but I'm glad to hear that you still have a space to garden. I also find balcony gardening tricky because of the very hot summers and cold winters. It's still a lot of trial and error, even though I have a better idea of what works now.
Thank you 😊 I do hope you will try again. It's not always easy, but I find it very rewarding. It's very important to find exactly what plants do well in your space, which means a lot of trial and error. It took me almost three years to have a good idea about what I can plant in my balcony.
E ora, in autunno, mentre pensi a cosa farai a primavera, inizia a coltivare qualche verdura invernale. Buona fortuna!
Your garden vlog is visual poetry. It's incredible how much you can grow and enjoy in such a limited space. You said you had many failures but they are not failures - they are meaningful moments of learning. You're such an inspiration. We are all looking forward to more of your creativity and growth of your magical garden!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Means a lot! You are right, I did learn a lot this summer, and I'm happy with how everything turned out this year.
Your videos are so relaxing to watch. I'm happy you're able to garden in such a small space, and I'm sorry your garden didn't do as well this year as you had hoped it would. I'm in the USA in zone 6a and my garden this year was the best one ever. Last year's garden was a disappointment. Nature likes to keep us guessing I suppose.. My biggest joy this year was finally getting a cucumber harvest, and even more than I could eat. I've tried growing cucumbers for at least 10 years, all different varieties, and I had been lucky if I ended up with 1 edible cucumber each year.
I'm glad your garden did so well this year. Cucumbers seem to really enjoy my balcony. I think it's because they get a lot of sun. Thank you for watching 😊
Waiting for September vlog mam 🎉
Working on it 😊 It will be out next Sunday.
Beautiful 💚
Thank you! 😊
For the spider mites, it might help if you had a simple fan on your balcony to help with air flow🤔 It's a very nice space for morning coffee!
Thanks for the tip! I should try that next year. I'm not sure what changed this year because I didn't have so many issues with them before.
Hi Cristina, your video is so amazing I am also a gardener but i have my terrace garden, I have one tip for you in one pot only grow one plant that's give you alot production instead of 2 or 3 ❤ when you grow 2 or 3 plant together then they do competition with eat other instead of producing fruit ❤ your video is so much amazing .....
Thank you so much! Yes, I'm starting to learn not to plant so many things together. It worked very well for me in the past, but not this year and I will have to be a bit more careful about what I plant together.
You have a cute balcony garden ❤ and I can empathise when you lost some plants to the wind and rain. We get that a lot in Wellington
Thank you so much 😊 We get pretty bad storms every year, but my balcony is usually protected so it was a bit of a shock.
Where do you put it? In the sun or in a dark cool area ?
Basil loves full sun, but I keep them in my east facing window until they get bigger and then move them outside. Too much sun can be bad for them when they are small.
Tomatoes won’t set fruit in temperatures over 85F. Cherry tomatoes tolerate heat much better.
Thank you! Some of them were definitely affected by the heat, but others wilted before they opened and I think that might have something to do with the spider mites.
Shall I plant cherry tomatoes in winter or wait for summer?
@@100ftsq They are usually started in spring (mid March over here) and moved outside after the last frost date (May in zone 7b). If you have micro tomatoes, you can grow them indoors at any time in the year, but you will need grow light in winter.
@@100ftsqSpring into summer. Larger tomatoes are better attempted in the autumn. But start them early if you can.

Hello 😊 watching from PNW, 1:18 you have a beautiful content. New fan here ❤
Thank you so much 😊
Love your storytelling, keep going 🎉❤
Thank you so much!!
Hi Cristina, nice to meet you here! It's definitely not easy to manage in the garden if you travel a lot. You don't have drip irrigation?
Hi, nice to see you here 😊 I've been looking into drip irrigation, but I don't have a power or water source on my balcony. I use ollas and ask my friends to help when I'm away.
@@4m2balconygarden I understand the challenge! I had a similar issue on my other balcony with my flowers and blueberry plant. Without water and electricity, it can be tricky. Maybe try some DIY solutions using a water tank and solar panels for power. Good luck, and let me know how it goes!
@@fifthfloorgarden Thank you! I do have a solution for electricity. Finding room for a water tank is the trickier part so I decided to leave this for next year. Ollas are actually great for 1-2 days in normal weather, but they are not enough during these hot summer days.
You're a true gardener at heart! Battling heat, storms, and pests is no easy feat. Your balcony garden is still thriving despite the challenges🫶🏾🤍
Thank you so much 🫶
wahhh cantiknya..
Yup.. this also happened to me in the last few days, during heavy rain n strong wind I ran to save as many plants as possible haha.. hope the plants can survive, cant wait for the next video ❤
Oh no, hope your plants will survive.

It’s me again. 😂 do you know Bokashi fertilizer? I will definitely trying it out this year. It’s a very interesting method to have organic best fertilizer on your own at home. She is using it. That’s when I saw it the first time. ruclips.net/video/F1i2KOKITmI/видео.htmlsi=s-vYc-n3n4ZjJIRZ
I looked into it, but decided not to get it because I don't have enough space on my balcony. It does seem interesting if you have where to keep it.
@@4m2balconygarden hey. I think you can put it everywhere. I read some reviews and it is a closed system. And just 1 box. No smell. And you can buy different sizes.
@@4m2balconygarden could you recommend some of your inspiration channels or books. Or how you learned all that? Maybe in a video. Always interesting and great to discover new gardeners.
@@jana8363 I could include some books in a future video. That's a great idea! I actually learned a lot by helping my mom and my grandparents when I was young. I try to apply what I remember from that time to what I do on my balcony. As for RUclipsrs, I follow so many people: Bring Nature Inside, 17m2garden, Gala Studio, Balconia Garden, The Lady Gardener and many more. I love watching Charles Dowding and Grow Veg, they have great advice even if it's not focused on container gardening.
I will also buy this ikea stuff you have with the protection. It’s pretty cheap and effective I already googled it. Thank you. 🙏🏻
You’re welcome 😊 I think they also have a taller version, but I don't have space for it.
Ok you inspired me and gave that kick to put the work in. I have two little kids. 1 and 2,5 years old. As you can image the last 4 years I was pregnant or breast feeding. Now slowly I get myself back. Had energy and healthy issues. Always wanted to make my balcony ready and pretty. On the next weekend it will have warm Temperatur. So ….. I will do my work outside. 😊 thank you.
Oh, that's so sweet. Thank you so much! Best of luck to you. I believe gardening is healing and I'm here if you need any tips.
Showing the soil or fertilizer would be nice. Or a link. To know what to look for. I bought last year a cheaper one. That was very good too. … sorry. Wrong text. I meant …. It was NOT very good.
The small bags with seed starting mix are from Dr Soil. I often a buy a peat-free soil from Lidl that I mix with perlite and compost. I think you can find cheap, good quality soil, but you have to try many brands until you find what works for you. I'll make sure to show the bags in the future.
yes we have Lidl here too. Next year I will move to Lithuania. So I think I will just have a balcony. No garden anymore.
Maybe you can still make a small balcony garden over there :)
