      Hi Josh you may have to push pretty hard on the unlock button on the ratchet to get it to release. Failing that you could carefully back the screws out on the ratchet strap. Be careful not to overnighter the screws when re-installing.

    Great video and thanks for sharing. I've had the Martini for nearly 2 years and loved it so much I picked up the Mercury and have had it for almost a year. I watched this video when I first got the Martini and the disassemble example worked smoothly just as demonstrated in the video. I recently took the Martini out a couple times and found myself fiddling with the release buckles near the back of the cockpit and remembered to take a look at this video again. Really great tips. Both boats are super stable, comfortable and allows ample space for gear - but the Mercury is even more fun for going longer distances and also with being able to put it on edge. I've even been able to roll it! Even though mine arrived with a broken skeg, I've had to manually had to pull the skeg out by hand (it appears that the spring isnt functioning properly). Fortunately, the replacement skeg for the Mercury is finally available and I'm excited to replace it. These are really fun boats and although the Mercury arrived with issues with the skeg, I've still been able to enjoy paddling in rock gardens and touring around in places where a stable, plastic boat is more practical.

    I am really unhappy with mine. Really hard to assemble/disassemble, rudder is shit as you can't tell when paddling which way it's pointing. I have taped mine up. A good idea ruined by shot engineering.

    • @greatescapekayaks9888
      @greatescapekayaks9888 2 года назад

      So sorry to hear that George. The rudder with built in skeg is designed to be controlled via your foot pedals, so if you install the rudder lines with the rudder at center, and tighten them until the lines are taut, with the foot pedals straight up and down, you'll always know where the rudder is. Very slight foot adjustments are required to control the rudder. We're sure once you get the hang of it, you'll love it! Plus, there's no reason to tape it up... it stays up using the skeg control knob. I think it's just a matter of you getting used to the system! As far as assembly/disassembly goes; if you follow the little trick of elevating the front end after releasing the buckles, the two parts slide apart super easy. It's just a matter of getting the hang of it. I literally assemble mine and disassemble it in seconds. Don't give up on your Mercury, you will grow to love it!

    • @mountbeckworth1
      @mountbeckworth1 2 года назад

      I took my Mercury back to the dealer in Melbourne Australia, and he was super helpful. He spent about 1 hour going over the assembly/disassembly etc. I still have the rudder taped as I can control with the paddle, but use the skeg. I think the Swedish version has stainless steel buckles, not the black plastic joiners we have, which is a shame. But thanks for the feedback.

    Your videos are cute, but I don’t get a sense of what they can handle. Can they handle rivers with rocky sections? How much swell can the sit in or sit on handle?

    • @greatescapekayaks9888
      @greatescapekayaks9888 2 года назад

      Hi Doug, thanks for your questions. The sit-ons are rated for 5 feet of surf or less. They are made of 1-layer polyethylene, so they are light and strong and can certainly handle rocky rivers. Some kayaks are made of 3-layer, but that is necessary in long kayaks to maintain the overall strength. Because these sections are small, 1-layer is very strong. Hi @camper camper and @Doug Smith, we aren't on here to bash other brands, merely to point out the amazing Point65 modular concept, which by the way has been on the market since 2010. Boasting several models to fit any kayaking style, Point65's designers understand what makes a kayak really perform, and have incorporated that into a modular style. Both the Martini and the Mercury offer excellent stability, and with its Symmetry drop down skeg system, the Mercury has incredible control and manouverability, turning on a dime at the touch of your toes. It's an awesome ride!
