This is why youth sports have a severe shortage of officials. It’s bad enough when coaches want to argue and curse at the officials, but when parters all start shooting off their big mouths saying things like want to borrow my glasses? Get your mask off faster. Then coaches and parents want to get in the officials face and curse at him, make threats and in some cases physically go after the officials. Who wants to endure that for $50 or $60 bucks a game. The parents need to sit there and STFU. It’s only a game and parents act like this is the world series with the score tied in the bottom of the 9th. This type of parent ruins it for the kids. On top of that they’re setting a pi$$ pore example for the kids.

I umpired baseball for many years, high school and little league. I was also the head umpire for several years for a little league division. If I had an umpire this lazy and unenthusiastic about his job, he would not be working for me. You have to be knowledgeable, consistent, enthusiastic, and love the game. Otherwise, go do something else. It’s that simple.

Great rotation 6-3-2 for two outs. The fowl ball was fair. The LF picked the ball up approx six inches inside the line. Slow motion shows the runner at home right toe touched the plate before the clean tag. It’s just baseball.

What the heck is the FU doing?! He should be getting in between and ushering the coach away from the PU. Instead, he just stands there like a spectator. Come on, man! And, the call at the plate looked good. The slide was awful. If that kid actually slides properly (or, perhaps, if the coaches had bothered to teach him to slide), he'd have been safe. But, he never extended his legs out toward the plate. It was odd, but it was the right call.

When I was officiating LL this coach's actions would have gotten him eliminated from coaching for the rest of the year. Maybe the coach should have spent his time teaching his players how to run the bases and slide properly rather than how to argue with the umpires? Just saying. All that ump did make a couple of calls. He didn't say any of the kids were bad kids, or even that they were bad at baseball, and yet people are reacting like he threatened their children with violence. That's just sad, and the real tragedy is that all occurred in front of more than two dozen young boys who just wanted to play some baseball. Umpire is the one position on the field that everyone thinks they can do better than the person actually doing it, but strangely the position no one really wants to play. At least the kids knew how to behave themselves, unlike the adults in the area, so maybe there is some hope for the future.

No matter what call you made, good or bad, someone was yelling at you and calling you names. I quit years ago now. Fair or foul, out or safe, coaches can not react and behave this way, especially at younger levels. The human element of the game going against "your" team and the emotions it brings for some coaches is what separates the good form the not good. What we saw with the coach in red was not good.
