This video shows that you actually do NOT have to build your own DIY strap on your SSD in order to get it out of your laptop once it's installed. The old HD is screwed into a caddy that the strap is connected to, by removing the old HD from the caddy and replacing it with your SSD you can now get your SSD out of your laptop easily. Sorry for the misinformation but this is my first laptop and th...

I realize caffeine has some positive healthy traits as well as negative, but for me it wasn't working. Try this cocktail once and I think you will find a nice alternative to a caffeine rollercoaster.

The SSD used is an old Corsair Force GT 240GB and the ram I used to upgrade is G-Skill F3 10600CL9D 16GBSQ, $67 at Newegg. The ram comes in two 8gb chips. Thanks to other posters of T420 information that helped me in my upgrades. 3/11 - I just realized from watching other videos that the drive is removable from the caddy so you don't really need to make a strap if you unscrew the old hd out of ...

      I think if you check the specifications for the Lenovo t420 the maximum capacity for hard drive might be 250GB. I haven't upgraded it for years the time but I do remember that I got the maximum size solid state drive that the laptop would take at the time. Make sure you have all the Lenovo backup disk as well to reinstall the system new hard drive.

    *pretty display with the perfect brightness➰➰>**JustU.Faith/Think-padT?悲 ** old school clicky keys that feel sturdy and professional... All around great experience for someone needing a laptop. Being that it's a Core Duo I doubt it would be suited for any gaming these days beyond basic things.*

    So you can run 16 gb ram . did you say that a battery needs replaced if running 16 gb ram ?

    • @Yapostadodat
      @Yapostadodat 6 лет назад

      No, I'm sorry I speak kind of fast and mumble a little sometimes. The t420 can take up to 16gb of RAM. I was mentioning the battery because in the process of installing the RAM I noticed the CMOS battery was close to where one of the RAM installation slots were. CMOS, the motherboard battery that saves bios info like clock and hardware settings, dies after several years. Having replaced several CMOS batteries in desktop computers I've had over the years, I knew that this laptop CMOS battery would someday need to be replaced too. I was mentioning the fact that opening the laptop to install the RAM also gave access to other stuff that may need maintenance in the future; CMOS replacement, CPU fan cleaning and replacement, PSU replacement and general dusting and fan maintenance. By upgrading the machine's RAM and HD, I realized this laptop will be useable for years to come and I just wanted to be proactive in my maintenance suggestions.

      No, increasing the ram itself won't affect the battery.

    A standard 7 or 9 mm SSD will fit onto the hard drive sled. You don't need to put tape on your SSD.

      @Yapostadodat 6 лет назад

      Thanks, I realized this after posting. I didn't realize the HD was detachable from the sled/caddy and I was placing mine directly into the slot before realizing if I did it this way I would never get it out. I've kept the video up because it still has some useful info on there and people are viewing it, despite my obvious mess up. This was my first laptop and I wasn't sure about certain elements such as this.

    IBM T series are the best productive solid laptops. Now Lenovo. It's basically the same thing just different name.

      The support for it is still great too. Lenovo Device Experience, Lenovo Solution Center and finally Lenovo Companion help locate latest drivers and stuff like Connect 2.

    ... I got lazy and decided to put the drive in without the tray just to see if it would work first... it didn't...

    • @Yapostadodat
      @Yapostadodat 7 лет назад

      Believe me, if it didn't work without the caddy I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of building my extensive tape mechanism for hard drive retrieval. I had the drive in the laptop for weeks with just the side rubber grommets to keep it in place with no problems. It's a pretty snug location to begin with, thus my need to build the tape strap to get the thing out at all. The caddy/tray is pretty superfluous when you realize how form fitting the hard drive space is, regardless of mechanical or solid state.

    • @ethanperry6356
      @ethanperry6356 7 лет назад

      It is. And all I had to do to get it out was remove very specific screws on the bottom, open the ram cover and remove more specific screws, flip it over and CAREFULLY, pry off the keyboard followed by the palm rest and THEN I can miraculously push it out, and resemble. But your method definitively seems a little easier.

      You mean the T420s?, i got one, its much thinner and comes with usb3 but also has less battery life and a soldered cpu as a negative. Also a little easier to overheat.

    The strap is not attached to the HDD, it's attached to the tray that you should reuse with your SSD.
