As many other people have said, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner, if they hadn’t reduced the power at the disposal of the player character, there couldn’t have been meaningful conflict and stakes in future storylines. I suppose it would have been better if it had been done in a different way, however. I also wanted the player character to be the Emperor a while longer

Ah yes, at first I had no idea what you were talking about, but now I remember. Immediately following the line “Master Satele would be crushed, you’re her favorite” Kira follows up with something about the Force supercharging the mind and body; at that point you can either flirt with her or say something to the effect of “No, I’m a Jedi, I’m at peace, I can’t allow myself to feel strong emotions”. All options were incredibly out of character considering how I’d characterized my Jedi Knight up to that point, so when the time came to finalize the editing of the video, after debating it endlessly I decided to just cut out that last part of the dialogue. I really don’t like doing this and haven’t done something like it in any other video, if I were to edit this video now it is possible I wouldn’t make that decision, but what’s done is done I suppose. It isn’t a very important scene either way. To be frank, I’m surprised someone noticed

@@darthocclus270 Well Kira Carsn, Elara Dorne, and Mary Jane Watson are my $*xy muffins that I need to be sent to horny jail for have m@$turb@ted to, and so I write fanfictions of them having a happy life as parents with the Jedi Knight, Republic Trooper and Peter Parker/Spider-Man respectively. So there's no way I wouldn't notice. And before you say it yes I am weird and yes I like being called that, and yes I enjoy being extremely h*rny, I'm basically Doc but with less knowledge in medicine and more in film. Speaking of MJ I actually got sent to h*rny jail, because I was temporarily banned from the R/Spider-Man subreddit because I kept h*rnyposting. Also, I liked how this video highlighted the fun fact that if you don't romance anyone then Rusk will be the one in danger and not Kira or Doc. You know if I had a nickel for every time the best companion from a Republic class story was a female human, who makes me h*rny, was born on Dromund Kaas, raised to serve the Empire, but defected, and joins the Republic, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

@@darthtrelvin I’m unsure whether you are referring to me, the person the channel belongs to, or the character I created when you say “Darth Occlus”. I’ll answer your question in both ways just to be sure. Personally, I really like Plagueis. He’s a good example of how much Sith can differ from one another while still being Sith. His complete rejection of mysticism when theorizing about, experimenting with or conceptualizing the Force makes him very unique. It’s almost as if Plagueis were a scientist first and a Force User second. His thoughts regarding the Rule of Two are also very interesting. He wanted to be equals with Palpatine, but due to his arrogance he couldn’t see that Palpatine didn’t share this nuanced idea at all; this hubris is an interesting part of his character however and reminds us that, despite his scientific approach to most things and his rational demeanor, he remains a Sith through and through. To be fair, his ideas regarding the rejection of the master/servant relationship between Sith could have perhaps worked if his apprentice had been someone else other than Palpatine, someone less ambitious maybe; but someone with little ambition makes for a poor Sith. Darth Occlus, were he to be made aware of Plagueis, would be very intrigued by the scientific approach he had to exploring the mysteries of the Force. Since Darth Occlus is by nature an Empire builder that would not approve of the Rule of Two, he would also appreciate Plagueis’ intentions to discard it; treating another Sith as an associate (like Plagueis wanted to do with Palpatine) rather than as a servant or a master would remind him of the relationship that exists between Dark Councilors in his own Empire. The nature of Plagueis’ experiments would be of great interest to Occlus as well. Extending or manipulating life without incurring any of the costs the Sith Emperor had to wrangle with (like having to feed on a great number of deaths to achieve it) would really fascinate him.

He despises him. Before coming into contact with him he had too little information to properly form an opinion of the Emperor, he just believed that he had grown complacent and allowed inefficiencies to exist due to not caring about them, but after speaking with him on Ziost he began to hate him. He realized that Vitiate viewed the Empire as his own personal power base and only cared about it because it increased his power and reach. He also had no qualms about sacrificing great numbers of resources and personnel to achieve his own personal goals, as demonstrated by his actions on Ziost. For those reasons and more, Occlus believes that Vitiate in many ways represents what is wrong with the Empire and hates him for that reason.

Well, he wasn’t pleased. He doesn’t suffer traitors. However he felt that Lana should be the one that decided what to do with him, considering she was his direct supervisor.

It would depend on the cost. If it was something “smaller scale”, like requiring a planet’s worth of living beings instead of the whole galaxy like Vitiate’s plan, he would consider it. There’s no reason it couldn’t be achieved while the war between Empire and Republic was raging after all, if it was just about feeding on the loss of life. He isn’t opposed to using technology, the Force or a mix of both to extend his own life. What he cares about is how many resources would have to be spent to achieve it.

Occlus would fail to see the meaning of annihilating all life in the Galaxy to become akin to a God. He wouldn’t understand what the point of that existence would be. What good is power if it can’t be exercised to govern a civilization? There’s no meaning in being an Emperor in a Galaxy devoid of life.

@@Crimsonking468 Sith ideology itself is incompatible with the creation of a stable society. A belief system that puts individualism and the search for greater power at all costs at the forefront is incapable of serving as the foundation of a prosperous civilization. That is why Darth Occlus and other “Pro-Empire” pragmatic Sith that we see in this era interpret the code in alternate ways and in turn aren’t “real” Sith.

@@Crimsonking468 An interesting question. I didn’t give much thought to his backstory beyond how he might’ve become a slave and what his life was like when he was one. I envisioned him becoming a slave as a result of some sort of collective punishment, which would explain his hatred similarly old-fashioned Imperial/Sith traditions. I imagine it would make sense for him to have been born into a politically connected Imperial family that in some way or another fell from grace because of the actions of one or more of its members, be they Sith or Imperial officers. The perpetrators were executed and the rest of the family, him included, was enslaved. Considering his origins, it is likely that he would have become somewhat accustomed with most of the trappings of Imperial politics during his childhood and teenage years, perhaps already developing some ideas about how the Empire could be made to be more efficient. I envision him discovering his force sensitivity later in life, while he was already a slave, so living as a non-Sith in the Empire for most of his life up to that point probably also led to him starting to believe in a sort of “toning down” of Sith supremacy in the Empire.

@@Crimsonking468 Darth Occlus approves of most of the precepts of the Sith Order. The main differences between his philosophy and Sith philosophy is that he believes that the search for greater strength and power should not harm the power system one wishes to climb, that power should be wielded constructively and that freedom of thought is as important as freedom from material constraints. So I suppose that were he to be in a position to do so, he would incorporate his ideas into Sith philosophy proper.

Hard to say. Most Sith develop their own ideologies over time and it is rare for them to fully subscribe to another Sith's ideology as they tend to be quite independent-minded. Among the Sith we see in Star Wars and that we know enough of I believe there are a few that would at least find Occlus' outlook to have some merit. Darth Acina eventually reforms the Empire into something very alike what Occlus envisioned, so she'd probably agree on much with Darth Occlus. Lana Beniko is another Sith that would probably agree with Occlus on a lot of things, but she's quite disinterested in gaining a greater rank in the power structure to bring about meaningful change, so there are a few points she would not agree on. Darth Marr would at least agree with Occlus' desire to strengthen and preserve the Empire's strength at all costs. No other Sith come to mind, or at least, none that would agree with Occlus on more than just his non-speciesism or his pursuit for greater knowledge of the Force.

He is quite taken by her; not romantically, of course. Still, he believes her to be someone he has much in common with and he is fascinated by her outlook on the Force and her pragmatic attitude. He finds the existence of another Sith that puts the needs of the Empire above their search for power and that is genuinely interested in learning as much as possible about the Force quite refreshing. Were she a bit more interested in obtaining a greater rank within the power structure of the Empire, Occlus would probably deem her a perfect Sith.

Hard to say. I imagine he would choose a name that embodies the character and actions of his apprentice. If you really wish for an actual title, then let’s go with Lord “Lexus”.

Had he known him, he would appreciate his cunning and intelligence, as well as his disposition. However, it is likely that he would believe him to be a madman after hearing of his plans for the Empire.

Darth Occlus greatly respects Darth Marr. He views him as an invaluable ally, even a friend, perhaps. Their vision regarding the future of the Empire nearly coincides, so he also appreciates his ideological insights. If you were to ask him, he’d think that the Empire would have already become the only major power in the Galaxy if all Sith were a bit more like Marr.

I do not believe he would have any particularly interesting thoughts. Seeing that would simply reinforce his belief that the Republic is a failed system of government that always falls into decadence and starts neglecting its people eventually.

I do not believe his actions would differ much from those of Sidious. He would encourage and sympathize with Dooku's disillusionment with the Jedi and the Republic. Difference being, Occlus would actually be sincere with his promises of improving the Galaxy, he wouldn't just be trying to manipulate Dooku.

@@drewgilmore9978 Given the way I’ve opted to characterize our dear Barsen’thor, I thought he would deem it inappropriate to develop that kind of relationship with his student. That and, well, the Jedi of this era don’t exactly encourage romantic relationships (though they seem to allow them under certain circumstances) and this Consular is someone who wholeheartedly believes in the tenants of the Order. I do admit it would be very funny if he were to get with Lana, but I’m not quite sure if it would be in character ahah But again, I suppose we’ll see when I feel like continuing his story.

@@darthocclus270 the only times they have ever been okay with romantic relationships is in legends and most notably after luke remakes the order. since the actual funding of the jedi before the old republic romantic relationships have been outlawed altough i do admit the current old republic order is more lenient than later iterations of the order. during the satele order era atleast there is a small tiny possibility of someone beign allowed but its soo hard to get its basically illegal..

Fundamentally, he follows the Sith Code, although he interprets it in a rather unique way; "There are as many Sith philosophies as there are Sith", after all. Instead of trying to put together a cohesive philosophy that reflects his thoughts and actions, I'll simply explain his interpretation of the Code line by line. "Peace is a lie, there is only Passion" Nothing good ever comes from idleness and apathy. Individuals and civilizations must never become complacent and must always seek to be active and improve themselves if they wish to prosper and not be surpassed. "through Passion, I gain Strength" Passion, conflict and competition are the key to gaining greater strength. Individuals and civilizations must be competitive and face hardship and conflict if they are to strengthen themselves. "through Strength, I gain Power" The purpose of becoming strong is to gain power. Therefore, one must be careful not to burn everything around oneself in their search for strength, as that would mean destroying the institutions and structures that can grant power. Self-improvement and self-affirmation are worthless if they do not meaningfully contribute to one's rise to power and it is important to never waste resources that could aid it. "through Power, I gain Victory" Power isn't an end in of itself. Gaining power just to accumulate even more power is useless. Power must be wielded in order to achieve meaningful objectives that leave a lasting mark on the power structure one is a part of or the Galaxy as a whole. Of course, "victory" is meaningless if the objectives one works towards are self-destructive or harmful to the power structure. "Through Victory, my Chains are broken; the Force shall free me" By achieving victory, that is, by reaching one's goals, an individual finally breaks free of the restrictions that once bound them and can freely pursue any other objective. The Force grants one the means to pursue strength, power and victory; one would be a poor warrior if they did not seek to understand and improve their weapon as much as possible. Above all however, it is important to never let oneself be bound by restrictive codes of conduct, traditions or ideologies; if one wants to achieve true freedom, they must always be willing to betray ideals they believe in if it means furthering their objectives.

The Republic we see during the Clone Wars is not too different from the Republic we see in SWTOR. Well, perhaps the latter is at least a bit more proactive less complacent than the former. Darth Occlus’ opinion of the Republic is pretty low as is, he deems it an inefficient, bloated and weak form of government. If he were to see the Republic from the Clone Wars Era he would dislike it even more, as it would basically be a more decadent incarnation of the Republic. He undoubtedly would disapprove of the government’s corruption, there’s nothing he dislikes more than waste and inefficiency after all. When it comes to the Republic letting worlds that aren’t part of it be oppressed by the Hutts, I do not believe he would care much. Those worlds are technically not the Republic’s responsibility after all. The problem with the Republic is that even in some of its member worlds, slavery persists. Now, that would definitely upset Occlus as it signifies that the Republic doesn’t care much about protecting its citizens and enforcing its laws.

Darth Occlus is interested in learning about any and all Force orders and traditions due to his desire for greater knowledge and strength in the Force; that includes the Jedi. However, although they and their ways are of academic interest to him, he deems them to be foolish, both in their practices and in their way of using the Force. In his eyes, only those who use the Dark Side and enslave the Force to their will can truly make a lasting and meaningful impact on the Galaxy and realize their vision; he believes that by letting the Force flow through you and treating it as a companion, you give up on pursuing your desires and you waste your strength in the Force. He deems both the Jedi Order and the Republic to be failing and inefficient institutions that stifle the potential of those who are part of them.

@@Crimsonking468 Darth Occlus would, above all, wish for an apprentice that shares his love of knowledge and learning. Other qualities that Occlus would deem desirable in an apprentice are pragmatism, intelligence, loyalty, flexibility and amorality. It occurs to me that I have essentially described Lana Beniko. So yeah, picture her if you wish to think about a perfect apprentice in the eyes of Occlus.

@@Crimsonking468 He was sincere. “We cannot afford to be the same Empire we were before we returned to this space” summarizes his views on the Empire, the Sith and their traditions pretty well after all. With that speech, he wished to make it clear that he stood in opposition to Thanaton and his values so yes, he did it to show sincere patriotism.

All Force using player characters in SWTOR seem to possess unparalleled prowess with the Force. Thus, Darth Occlus is probably more powerful than all Dark Council members, bar maybe Darth Marr, who he would probably be relative to in power. Unfortunately there isn’t enough information to properly make a power ranking of Dark Council members, we can only really go off seniority as that means that they have been able to keep their seat for longer; and Marr has been a Councilor for decades.
