STONEHENGE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located on Salisbury Plain in the English county of Wiltshire, England.
In 2013 a new visitor centre opened about (2 km) from the stones, at the edge of the World Heritage site.
The building is deliberately modest, to minimise its visual impact on the ancient landscape.
From the visitor center you can walk and enjoy the views or take the shuttle bus to the site.
The construction of Stonehenge wasn't a one-time event. It was built over several stages, starting around 3000 BC and continuing until about 1600 BC.
