Interesting watching McGwire hit that last one off of Randy Johnson. They were teammates at USC, playing in one of coach Rod Dedeaux's last seasons. It's like watching Troy Polamalu as a Pittsburgh Steeler, intercepting a pass by Carson Palmer who as a Cincinnati Bengal and running over Palmer into the end zone. Polamalu and Carson were roommates at USC and played for Pete Carroll.
Great compilation! He hit so many tape measure jobs between 1995-2001 it became routine. Every one was 450+. I’ve never seen a guy consistently hit balls so far. I’m still amazed to this day regardless of controversy. He also hit one off Rivera at Yankee Stadium to dead center past where Reggie Jackson hit his in the WS. A coach in the Dbacks system told me during the 99 or 2000 season he hit one out of Chase Field through the windows in left center, next to the scoreboard, during BP. Look up a picture of Chase Field and you’ll see where that window is. It’s unbelievable. That ball was approaching 550 legit.
Agreed man. I was a kid and my Dad took us to Old Pro Player Stadium in Miami to see McGwire hit numbers 58 and 59. On this day and actually the previous year there, he was cracking shots about 20 or so rows up in the upper deck there. Just one after another. The video is floating around on RUclips but there’s footage of Mac going off the FACADE of old RFK stadium. Lol! That was unheard of until he did it. Keep in mind Frank Howard played years there. As far as sheer power and distance… McGwire was unmatched. Yeah yeah I know, the whole Steroids thing, but hey… he brought the game back and hit homers off pitchers who were on them to do… 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
