That's easy for you to say if you know the dance but for those of us who don't know the technicalities of this Art form enjoying this cultural Dance, it's great!! No disrespect to you personally intended!
°I° :)))
Goods dancers °I°:))))
I was expecting to see the antrim reel, never heard of the square,"it is not Ceili dancing. It would be Good if set groups stopped advertisng their events as Ceili" which they are not" "CEILI IS CEILI SETS ARE SETS" AND SHOULD BE ADVERTISED AS SUCH.WE NEED TO KEEP CEILI DANCING ALIVE"
WE'VE DONE ANTRIM SQUARE FOR A FEW FESTIVALS. IT'S A FUN SET.
Nicely danced
@jirihozpodebrad23 Try going to Connemara!
@ceili308 So is the way you do it in the Washington DC area really that authentic? And it's Skibereen actually not Skibeen, which is in County Cork by the way. The Connemara ladies' chain as danced in Connemara, as opposed to the Connemara ladies' chain as danced in Washington DC might be different. Check your sources! You might find that the way they do and did it in Connemara might be a little more authentic!
As regards the ladies Chain, yes the tradition is living but why do we all make all sets like every other set? Shouldn't they have their own style? Should all ladies' chains be the same, or borrowed frm a different area, or should we respect the original tradition? If we don't, we do everything in the same style and original regional diffenerces get blurred and forgotten. I think we should respect the tradition and not make all the same!
This video makes me wish I'd been taught dancing as a child :(
The Tamlin or Glasgow Reel
Yes, I have it here. He says ladies chain, left hand to opp. gent.. No further chain mentioned. Anything else you get a yellow card!
This Dance is taken from Pat Murphys Book
That tune is called "Music for a Found Harmonium."
The men's turn used at the end of the ladies' chain is the gent facing forward move for the Claddagh and should not be used here. It should be be the follow her round move using left hand. Dances for exhibition should never mess about with the original, no matter what we do in Milltiown.
...oh my oh my... i'm absolutely stunned and amazed by them...!!! wooooow!!! never saw set dancing like that with sean-nos kinda style, well, never saw young people dancing it so...:) great, really great job...:)!!!
Padraig & Roisin McEneany are the best teachers of set dancing !
used 2 wear me out,but a great dance!
And the name of the hornpipe is "Off To California " ~~~ Mike ♥
Well explained! Hopefully I upload the dance itself we danced last weekend with Patrich O'Dea. Kindest regards from Vienna, Michael & Cumann Ceili Vin
