Build the F-4J Phantom II
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.Год назад
It's Showtime! Showtime 100 that is. On today's episode we build the Revell/Monogram F-4J Phantom II in 1:48 scale. The power of nostalgia. This was the first kit that my father ever got for me, and even though I don't use it anymore, the smell of Testors Plastic Cement still takes me back to that model. I've been wanting to revisit this kit and see what I could do with it right out of the box,...

In this grand finale episode we finish up the Airfix P-40 Warhawk build. Today we get the decals on, which are surprisingly excellent. Also we add weathering to make the airplane look like is been well used, as well as continuing our history of the Flying Tigers time in China. Here is a very well written, and researched article about the historical colors of the Flying Tiger aircraft. ratomodel...

Great build, and also great historical narration! Like you, I'm getting back into scale modelling after a break of...more years than I care to admit! I'm planning on doing four separate 1/72 P-40's: two from Pearl Harbor (Taylor and Welch), one from the Philippines, and one from Stateside. Now, I should probably add an AVG ship as well! I like the Airfix kit since there aren't an overwhelming number of parts and the build looks relatively straightforward. Your build looks really nice and thanks so much for posting all of the videos!
Thanks! The airfix is a great little kit. Plastic is a little soft but in the end it looks like a P-40. Would love to see your builds when you finish.
Great video, presentation and build.
Much appreciated!
Great video
Outstanding video, build and presentation.
Thanks for watching
I have the same kit, but being an old kit, I have problems with the decals. They are water-dip decals, right?
They are water slide decals. Being so old mine weren't salvageable, so I painted all the major markings and bought an aftermarket set for all the small warnings.
@@buildinghistorymodels Thanks for your reply! I dont plan to paint the major markings, can you suggest some decals that have all the markings and smaller stencils?
I got the small data stencils from Milspec, and I know Zoukei-Mura makes a Showtime 100 set in 48th scale. As far as I know there isn't one that come with both together, I could be wrong though.
NIce base.
A husband and wife modeling team? Well that’s refreshing! Interesting and humorous dialogue. You seem to have a great rapport. I like how you instilled the history with the build. Well done! 👍
Thank you, very much.
Beautiful build, your paint and weathering are superb!
Thank you
Great video, model build and history. The F-35 should have been called the Phantom III.
Would be cool but Boeing has the rights to that name since they acquired McDonnell Douglas!
Best japanese ww2 fighter plane
One of best japanese ww2 fighters
Good job
Close pronounciation. Don't emphasize the "ya" so much. Japanese language tends to have a flat pronounciation or just a slight emphasis on the first syllable - "Ha". Try a more even toned, Ha-ya-te. The "te" at the end sounds like "teh", not "tay". 👍
nice 👍👍🏿👍🏾👍🏼👍🏽👍🏻
Just discovered your site. I enjoy the builds along with the really nice narration. Looking forward to seeing much more from you both 😊
Thank you, welcome aboard!
Excellent job! And proof that RevellMonogram can hold its own among the other power-house model companies with over-engineering and exorbitant pricing.
Amazing Presentation Great Oration Thank You Great Man
Beautiful build, People who handle light gull grey like its nothing always amazes me. Ive been in the hobby for almost 10 years now and i never get the finish that i want with light gull grey to this day (my lack of skill is the main issue here 😂) thank you for sharing this build 👏🏾
Thank you for the kind words. It didn't quite come out the way I envisioned in my head, but then again they rarely do.
Hey, is a monogram model.. Is very dificult build 😋
Beautiful! Do you have a source for the wing folds kits 1/48 and 1/72?
I used a paragon design wing fold set, which unfortunately are no longer in production. Although sometimes you can still find them on ebay. I believe Wolfpack still makes a set in 48 and 72 scale
Thanks! !@@buildinghistorymodels
Well I have to correct you on what the A6-E was really called, a yard dart, this is what it's called in the military, I know I was a jet engine mechanic on A6-E jets.
Good job on that build young man and saying all those big words I was very impressed and you made me laugh. I loved it.
Beautiful! Great job!
COUNTRIES!
The A6 is the only aircraft the U.S. does not sell to foreign c
Super Nice
I thoroughly enjoyed this build, thank you so much for such an original format. The history lesson was quite possibly the best talkthrough ever of the best fighter to grace the skies. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Really useful video. Thank you. I'm starting to build my Italeri kit on next week.
Excellent video, build and commentator however, one minor correction, The Skyraiders, also called Sandy - was such a good ground support aircraft, about 3/4 into the Vietnam War the military wanted more built. Unfortunately entering the war the plane was no longer being manufactured The military contacted the manufacture to build more. With the manufacturing shut down scaling up again would double the cost. The request for more was vetoed and we stretched the inventory as far as we could . A-6 was also good ground support with awesome bomb loads, however, the Skyraiders, being propeller aircraft could loiter over active areas for long periods of time. A-6 was also great ELINT, aircraft, based on land and flown by Marines. Super support because they didn't have to wait out on a carrier at Point Luck waiting for launch. Several pilots awarded MOH for rescues and support in Skyraiders/Sandy
Nice work
Wat a beauty of a plane. You two make a great team, greatbuild, great paintjob/weathering and great narration!
Damn that is gorgeous
Thank you

Excellent build. Almost as excellent as the voice-over. It made this a great watch! Well done.
Glad you liked it!
Great build and very informative video. Thanks for sharing, Rebecca and Ben. Best regards from Germany
Thank you!
Subscribed (and happily so 👍🙂). This is a very nice build and I enjoyed the video as well. Can't wait to see what else you've done and for other builds to come.
Welcome! Thank you
It's great to finally see someone did the venerable Revell Intruder justice. Great built. I see you listed the Rockeyes being from Eduard. What about the Snake eyes? Are they outsourced, too?
The Snakeyes are from Reskit. I forgot to mention that in the video.
@@buildinghistorymodels Are they bigger than the ones come with the kit? I always suspect the ones from the kid are Mk 81s (250 lb), not the regular Mk 82s (500 lb) that commnly carried by A-6s.
Yes they are significantly larger than the kit pieces
I love your inspirational modelling techniques, and the special touch of the excellent narrative about this beautyful and amazing plane, congratulations for this awesome and useful video. Greetings for you from Guatemala, The Land of Quetzal Bird, Símbol of Freedom.
Thank you! Cheers!
This video was so entertaining! The build was spectacular. Your wife's narration was so much fun! I loved how she put her little comments in, made it human. Great work please keep it up.
Oh yeah, synchronicity is a word. I had to look it up because I wasn't sure. That part made me laugh. BRAVO!
Thanks so much!
y last outfit before I retired was VA-85 A6E. Loved the bird, sorry to see it go.
The Black Falcons, nice. It was a great airplane. All the good ones go before their time.
Really enjoyed watching the build and thoroughly like the narration. great way to present a build - thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job! Nice narration, too.
Thank you kindly!
Hi! I'm building an F22 Hobby Boss and I liked the steps you took. I would like to know where did you get the mask sheet for the camouflage? Your kit is really nice! hugs
I got a scheme from the internet and scaled it to 1:72 for printing. Good luck with your build.
A back flip!! That would be awesome to see!!! You make the decal application look easy. I'm sure it's not. And once again you prove out the old adage that patience is a virtue . Glad you were able to finish. Looking forward to what's next. As for my favorite....I've seen the F-22 fly. It is a beast!! Love it!
I just started using sprue goo. It helps with gaps a lot
I've just got my first batch made up, haven't had a chance yet to use it.
@@buildinghistorymodels it worked pretty good on the project I'm working on right now a Hobby Boss Stuka. I would suggest using it as a base with AK acrylic putty on top. Filled in the seams without sanding
If i may ask, what got you out of the hobby for $13 years? What brought you back in? I built as a kid but they were terrible. Got into Dungeons and Dragons and that got me into painting miniatures. Been playing and painting for 39 years. Last October decided to get back into scale modeling. Scale modeling is much harder than building and painting miniatures lol
Life gets in the way. Had a kid, no space in a small apartment etc etc. Never intended to stay out for that long, always had a stash, but finally got the time and space to start back up.
Great build Great history what more could you ask for
Thank you
What more could you ask for? Well that my builds ended up anywhere near as good as these
The Wildcat held the line in the Pacific Theater until the more powerful and deadly Hellcat came in to finish the job the Wildcat started!...
Would be interested in learning about the the WW II transport gliders. Consider making a model if it’s available
Another interesting video thanks
