Learning from/Comparing other esports casting: One of the major differences is that many of the successful esport games have easy points of focus to follow in a match. You can often see the build-up to a critical play at which point the colour caster slows down their narrative and the pbp caster is ready to jump in when it kicks off. HLL struggles to know where those big important plays are coming from, not necessarily that something is occurring soon, but how to focus it for an enjoyable spectator perspective. The strategy can span an area wider than a camera would be able to capture, but the critical moment may be in a narrow street that you cant really see. The other huge difference is that those games have multiple views to choose from simultaneously, maybe a few chase cams, a few fixed position views, a strategy/map view and the director can flick between them all seamlessly. HLL devs really need a dedicated spectator option for multiple camera operators, but that would require developer support for the competitive scene, which you did note is a bit lacking.

Don't forget, those high profile casters have entire teams running the operation. They aren't responsible for camera angles, sound stuff, transitions etc. you have a much harder job with a lot more to focus on
