Already happening. For the last two weeks, 4G is latching on 2100MHz instead of 700MHz, due to testing of 5G in Kolkata, thus the speed is so poor, I have locked to HSPA+ 2100MHz. That too becomes unstable at 8 pm -12pm due to shared traffic of both 3G and 4G in the same 2100 MHz band.

Majority 4g devices are non Samsung and apple in India, in which they don't enable the 700 band, it's better that they are not using it for 4g

Absolutely. It makes perfect sense. There are significant advantages from the point of spectrum especially low frequency bands and deployment of high quality 4G and 5G services as both have sufficient quantity of low frequency bands in 900 and 700 MHz. This will have a positive impact on market share and ARPU. But the challenges many- especially network integration. This we learn from the Vodafone and Idea integration. It look more that’s 3 to 4 years to drive such integration causing huge confusion both at the network operation level and HR level. Therefore , theoretically it might look attractive but practically both companies have to go through lot of pain and retrenchment.

Access is which is connected directly to the customer, whereas non access is which is not, for example National long distance connection- connecting to trunk exchanges and international long distance connecting truck exchange between countries. These services are anchored under different license regime and not mapped to any specific circle.

Both 700 MHz and 800 MHz frequencies offer similar coverage. The key factor determining which is better depends on the type of handsets used. This might come as a surprise to many. **Why?** Low frequencies are typically expected to travel farther, but the issue lies with the receiver's antenna. For optimal reception, the antenna's length should be at least one-fourth of the wavelength (λ/4). - For a 700 MHz uplink (e.g., 725 MHz for RJIO), λ/4 is approximately 10.34 cm. - For an 800 MHz uplink (e.g., 830 MHz for RJIO), λ/4 is around 9 cm. This means that for optimal reception, devices using the 700 MHz band need to be about 1.5 cm longer than those using the 800 MHz band. If both devices are of the same length, there will be a small device loss for the 700 MHz band, which compensates for its better propagation characteristics. Therefore, in practice, there is no significant difference in coverage between the 700 MHz and 800 MHz bands. Some users may experience coverage issues with the 700 MHz band due to their specific device length or antenna design being less optimal compared to those designed for the 800 MHz band.

For 2G very less amount is needed, So I believe 2G and 4G could be managed in 900 MHz band. Instead of 10 MHZ just 10.4 would do the job for 4g and 2g. I hope I was able to make you understand my point of view.

Yes you are correct in few circles 10 MHz is not available but in those circles 5 MHz was available. Bharti and others started in 900 MHz with only 5 MHz for 4G. And for capacity for 4G BSNL could have easily used 2100 MHz or 2500 MHz bands. Now 900 MHz is not an option for BSNL for 5G and 4 MHz is not available some circles. Also. You can switch off you 2G subs for 5G deployment in 900 MHz. You need to find a parking spot. Hence, only option for BSNL for 5G is 600 MHz. As mentioned in my video this is an suboptimal solution as devices will be new and they won’t be able to leverage the ecosystem of 4G and 5G devices which exists. This is why is a foolish decision by the govt.

@@paragkar8885 one more solution that could be done is use 800 and 900 both. Where 800 is not available, go with 900, and vice versa, Though I have not analysed is there any circle where both this bands are not available (10 MHZ) But that could have also been done... Anyways, for a 600 MHz spectrum band, there is no existing smartphone ecosystem. Literally no UE supports the 600 MHz band as of now. You are right, the Govt is really not doing the right things. And I think instead of this auction, if spectrum could have given administrative way, then a better harmony would prevail. Like 100 MHz is available. Distribute it with 25-25-25-25 or any other combination as needed by respective telcos.

Yes you can choose either of them, but you can combine spectrum bands close together using CA (carriers aggregation). The fundamental problem with that when you are combining bands which are not dispersed in frequency then there is diplexers loss which dampens the converge of both frequency bands and that will be counterproductive. Hence, CA across bands are always spaced far so as to avoid this problem. One query sir, RJio has acquired additional 9.4 MHz spectrum in b3 in West Bengal. Do you have any idea by which time the spectrum will get harmonized, and deployed ?

I consulted with Counterpoint, and they informed me that, according to their database, there are three devices priced between INR 4,000 and INR 6,000 that support the 700 MHz band, while seven devices support only the 800 MHz band. I have included this information in my article. However, I still need a current list of devices in India with 700 MHz support in the 6K to 4K range to update my Substack note. That said, it's important to question why consumers in the affordable segment would purchase new devices with 700 MHz support just to take advantage of BSNL's cheaper plans. It doesn't make much sense. Why would BSNL lock the 700 MHz band for 4G and leave the 800 MHz band unused, especially when BSNL needs a 5G roadmap? They can't free up the 900 MHz band from GSM, and a standalone 5G network on the 2100 MHz band makes more sense. Moreover, there are no devices priced below INR 4,000 that support the 700 MHz band.
