    I continued reading and I believe Dəvarim 29.3 is connected to the following verse, because although we are with uncircumcised hearts, blind, deaf and dumb we must trust in the words of HaShem as if it is his commandments guiding us in the dark. Deu 29:29 (JPS) (29:28) The secret things belong unto the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

    Shalom Adam! What is meant by this verse? I find it strange that after 40 years of wandering and hardship HaShem would say this. Deu 29:4 (JPS) (29:3) but the LORD hath not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

      It's a great question, I've read several answers. One answer is to say that the nation did not appreciate all of the great miracles that were performed for them, but the Moshe softens the blow by saying that it's not entirely their fault because Hashem did not give them the ability to appreciate those miracles. In other words, he is pointing out that they didn't appreciate it, but he isn't putting the blame on them. It's not about proving them wrong, but he is telling them that going forward, they should always appreciate their blessings.

    • @adamstorah
      @adamstorah Год назад

      Another possible answer is that, the whole sentence should be read rhetorically. For example, "Didn't Hashem give you eyes?!? How can you not see these open miracles!!"

    I do not understand why land sold in a city is lost if not redeemed after only one year. What does this teach us?

    Is there a connection with Tzara’at and the mark given Cain, and the goat of Azazel which was a goat for Israel?

      Very interesting question. I’m not aware of anything, I’d have to think about it some more. I see the observed similarity between Tzara’at and Cain, both being marks on the skin. But how does the goat fit in?

      @@adamstorah the two goats are representative of the people, while the bull was for the anointed priest. So, not all the people can be pure in heart, some of them are going to be in a sinful state, it’s impossible for them all to be pure I think. This means that some of them will have a bit of tzara’at on them. The person who takes Azazel away, may be represented as a person who recognized his tzara’at and in humility repents. King David is an example after Nathan reproves him. But maybe the goat is all the nation in exile, as Moses gives prophecy, and King Solomon.

      I see what you’re saying. Tzara’at has technical definitions, skin discoloration, etc, and there’s no guarantee that people had it just bc they were impure

      @@adamstorah Can we view Jōb’s skin illness as Tzara’at? If yes, was there something in Jōb’s character Adonai wanted him to work on?

      Although it was a skin affliction, the text does not call it tzara'at. www.sefaria.org/Job.2.7?lang=bi
