Join me on my adventures (and my normal ordinary life) in Scotland and around the world!
Trekking in the Himalayas - Annapurna Circuit, Nepal - Part 3 (Manang - Muktinah)
In October 2024 I embarked on a big adventure. I travelled to Nepal, one of my favourite countries in the world and hiked the Annapurna Circuit.
Follow me as my group and I trek nearly 160 miles / 250 km through the Annapurna Conservation Area in the Himalayas.
This is an absolutely stunning trek going through culturally diverse areas and many different kinds of nature.
This is Part 3. We leave Manang behind and trek further up to the base of Thorong La Pass. The day of crossing the pass starts very early but after a long day, we make it across and enter a new district, Mustang.

Today I set off for the last section of the West Highland Way. I set off from Kinlochleven and find myself on a steep climb out of town to join up with the Old Military Road once again. The section today leads through a beautiful landscape and far away from any civilisation. On route we pass through the Lairigmor on route to Glen Nevis. Once we reach the bottom of Glen Nevis it's a straightforw...

In Kinlochleven, a slightly different kind of camping awaits me for my overnight stop.

Taking the less travelled path up Sgòr Gaoith and a Reindeer suprise - Exploring the Cairngorms

We're heading back into the Cairngorms this time. Starting off near Feshiebridge, I start heading up Sgòr Gaoith on a near perfect day. Instead of heading straight up and down the main path, I decide to take a longer circuitous route. This route is stunning and really quiet but there are some navigational challenges. Easy to do in clear weather, but this route would be a lot more challenging on...

Thoroughly enjoyed this video as well. Thanks for sharing another lovely vlog.
Nice video. And what a beautiful scenery. And typical Nepali background music. Thank You very much.
Glad you liked it. Thank you for your comment!
How is annapurna trek?
The trek is amazing! Great views, great food and awesome people!
So lovely to be able to follow your trek in Nepal this way! 👌:-D Would love to do it to someday. I was on a trek in Austria last summer in the Alps, and some of the paths were so narrow, and also very slippery from the rain, that I had to cry my way forward. I had no problem with bridges though, only with narrow and steep pathways. From your footage I get the impression that most paths are quite broad, but I dont' know which ones you did not film of course. 😊 So, do you think this trek is do-able for someone who suffers from fear of heights? Or maybe fear of drop-offs is more accurate 😉
Hi, thank you for your kind message. I can definitely recommend this trek, it's awesome. I think you should be fine. The vast majority of the trails are nice and wide. There are a few sections where the path gets quite narrow but they are usually very short. We had someone in our group with a similar fear of yours. Her fear wasn't really heights but more being too close to the drop-offs. There were a few times where she asked one of us to hold her hand to get through some narrower sections and she managed amazingly. So I'd definitely say you should manage just fine and the few tricky sections will soon be forgotten by the rest of the views ;)
@@swissgirlinscotland Ah super! Thank you so much for your response. 🙏 Sounds like a trek we might start planning now that we kwow more about those details. At those short narrow parts I would probably then ask my husband to hold my hand, and breathe through it. 😉 Have a great day, and I look forward to seeing more of your travel adventures perhaps! 😊 😉
Hi Kim, another great episode in this series thank you, the scenery remains spectacular and I like the long suspension bridges. Was sorry to hear you were not feeling well with altitude sickness but you appeared to recover quickly when you started to descend. I would love to walk this trail, but I have quite a few medical issues that would make it very difficult/impossible. So it’s great to see the films of your journey and adventure, I have watched the films two or three times each up to now. Hope you are keeping well, Chris 👍👍👍
There are definitely plenty of long suspension bridges on this trek and I loved each one of them. Yes, you never know what to expect when going up to a high altitude but trust your body, trust your guides and you'll know if you can push forward or if it's better to turn around. Luckily as you said I felt just fine as soon as we started descending again. I'm glad you are able to enjoy this trek through the camera, but there are some many amazing trails out there without the high altitude so I'm sure there's plenty for you to still discover too :)
@@swissgirlinscotland I would love to do some walks abroad but I can no longer get travel insurance now so I’m quite restricted. It’s great to see your films and hear what you have to say about your journey. I look forward to the next episode. Best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Terrible flute music throughout...
Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying the traditional Nepali Flute music. You hear it everywhere when trekking in Nepal.
wel Come to you our Nepal ❤
Thank you!
I love all tribal tourism in Nepal. An with nepali's life ❤❤❤
I don't understand y foreigner's visit our country . there are only mountain's mountain's and only mountain's. A nywayz, welcome to Nepal😊
Thank you! And for me it’s not just the mountains in Nepal, it’s also a country of amazingly kind people and it reminds me to be appreciative of the smaller things in life 😊 but the mountains are awesome!
wow amazing
Thank you!
Opps you got 200 views 😊
1. Solo traveling to ABC trek allowed? 2. Is mid December a good time? 3. From Pokahra to Pokhara how long this trek will take? Waiting for your response ❤
1. Yes but be careful of certain restrictive areas. 2. Good time but prepare for cold weather (negative degrees in night). 3. The trek has many branches. You can do as short as 6 days to 21 days depending on location you choose.
Fully agree with @Dharmik_Mann1 answers. A little bit extra: 1. Technically, you are required to have a guide when trekking in the ACA, but I did see solo travellers and they didn't seem to have any issues at the checkpoints. So the guide rule doesn't seem to be enforced in the Annapurna Region currently. This could change at any time. Important though is to have all the trekking permits needed, they do check those regularly. 2. Mid december is usually a good time, but it can get very cold once you reach higher elevations. Also there is always the danger of Thorong La pass being shut for a few days at a time due to heavy snowfall in the winter. 3. We did the trek in 15 days. But you can shorten it considerably by taking Jeeps at the start/end of the trek. You can even take a flight from Jomsom back to Pokhara which would take about 4 days off the trek. You can also do extra side treks like Tilicho Tal or Annapurna Base camp, which can lengthen the trek to over 20 days.
@@swissgirlinscotland thank you so much for such a detailed answer. I really appreciate it.

Hi Kim, Another great episode in this series with fantastic scenery. All the group look like they are also enjoying the trail and the fantastic experience. I look forward to the film, hope you are keeping well, take care, best regards Chris. 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the whole group had a great time. We all meshed really well, which was great.
Music and scenery 👌
Accommodation is like a camping pod on the WHW I stayed in, lol.👍👍👍
The views on the WHW are pretty amazing too, but this view definitely topped anything on the WHW for me 😉
Hi Kim, a great film thank you, very enjoyable, with spectacular views. It looks like a fantastic adventure and I look forward to the next episode. How long was the trail in total? Hope you are keeping well, best regards, Chris.
It was indeed a fantastic adventure! Editing these videos already makes me nostalgic to go back. Our total for the trail was around 160 miles. Take care, Kim
@@swissgirlinscotlandWow, 160 miles is a long trek, well done, the film is spectacular, looking forward to the next one. 👍👍👍
A great film, looks like a fantastic adventure. I look forward to the next film, Chris 👍👍👍
Thank you. I’ve just started editing all my footage from the Annapurna Circuit and this is going to take a while 😂 but the scenery is just looking amazing and I’m excited to get this adventure out!
@ Hi Kim, sounds great, I’m looking forward to seeing your films. 👍👍👍
Hello, just watching your final section. Cracking video, just subscribed from a fellow RUclipsr 😉👍
Thank you! Much appreciated.
Ahh, the beautiful Scottish summer is always my favourite day of the year 😀 Lovely video. Thanks for sharing 💙🤍
I think our Scottish summer was even 2 days long this time round! Looking forward to the next one in about 8 months
I really enjoy your adventurous videos that capture hiking and camping moments. many viewers love to watch this type of video. You’ve created a lot of content, and it’s clear that you love what you do. As a virtual assistant, I think updating your video thumbnails and hooks could make a big difference. These elements play a key role in boosting click-through rates and average view duration, driving your channel's growth. A few other minor tweaks could also help you become an even more successful content creator. If my suggestions sound useful, feel free to get in touch. I’ve been working in this field for quite some time.
Hi Kim, Looks like you had a successful shopping expedition to Edinburgh. I look forward to seeing your film from your upcoming holiday. I completed the WHW again successfully, had about Three days of rain, but also some beautiful autumn days walking. As always on the WHW met some fantastic people on the trail. Have a great holiday and as always, take care, best regards Chris. 👍👍👍
Zapatos... lol I know it's not Swiss or Scottish but it makes me laugh. : )
Wooooo! Well done on completing it Kim! We're planning on attempting the WHW next year (if all goes well), hope we can make it like you! Did you end up getting McDonalds?
Thank you! I’m sure you’ll do great. I found it really helped to focus on the journey instead of the destination to make sure you’ll enjoy it on the way. And yes, I definitely stopped by McDonalds before driving home 👍
❤❤❤❤🌿👍👍👍👍💕🙏🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations for finishing the Way. I too baled out the also at Kingshouse. Returned over two weeks ago. And started from Tyndrum and took 4 day to walk the last half. I absolutely enjoyed all of it.🎉🎉
Awesome! I still have the goal of walking the whole way in one go at some point, but doing smaller sections is definitely nice too!
Really enjoyed this video, it has inspired me so much to get out and about again. I completed the West Highland way when i was in the Army and always wanted to do it again. me and my friend have planned for next year x
Thank you so much. This was exactly my aim when I started the channel. To encourage and inspire other people to get out into this beautiful countryside that we have. Good luck next year. I bet you are going to have an amazing time again!
Hi Kim, another fantastic film thank you. I enjoyed that section of the WHW, Kinlochleven to Fort William the scenery is excellent. Well done on finishing the hike, that last section is definitely tiring on the legs and feet. I’m in Milngavie now ready to start the WHW tomorrow Tuesday 8th October 2024. Thanks for another great film, best regards. 👍👍👍
Good luck, hope the weather isn’t too bad this time round. I’m currently sitting at the airport, heading off on a big international adventure. Will of course film during my trip and hope to have something to post at the beginning of November!
@@swissgirlinscotland That sounds great Kim, have a great time and as always take care, best regards 👍👍👍
Very enjoyable, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Hi Kim, it is good to see the next stage of your WHW adventure. Thank you for sharing it. You found some cracking weather. Atb David.
Thanks for watching! Yes, I definitely lucked out that the weather was nice exactly during my days off. Hasn’t happened that often this summer with a lot of rainy days off, but I lucked out this time round!
Hi Kim, A great film thank you and you enjoyed some nice weather on that section of the WHW. It brought back some great memories, but it was raining when I walked that section in early June this year 2024. The tent box looks great, I have not seen them in Kinlochleven before. I look forward to your film of the last section to Fort William. Best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Many thanks! Yes the tent box was pretty nice. A good, relatively inexpensive way to overnight without needing to bring your own tent, etc. This section in the sun was absolutely stunning. I hope you get some better weather on this section this time round!
Look for three islands tour if weather good, staffa, mull, iona
Hi Kim, Great to see you back on the beautiful West Highland Way again and good luck with your last sections. I’m starting the WHW again from Milngavie on 8th October, hope to finish it in about 8 days, I’m walking it with my partner this time, she has never walked it before. So we are hoping for some nice autumn weather, best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Hi Kim, I enjoyed that film thank you. Switzerland looks very clean and fresh the water looks very clear. I didn’t know the temperature got to 31c in Switzerland I thought it was a cooler place. A very interesting film thank you and I look forward to the next one. Hope you are keeping well, best regards, Chris.
Hi, yes the water is wonderful. Perfect to swim in during the summer! And yes, Switzerland has hot summers but cold winters. It's usually above 30 degrees for a good few weeks during the summer, often with a nice little thunderstorm in the afternoon! All the best, Km
Hi Kim, I’m sorry to hear you were travelling back to Switzerland to attend a family funeral, I hope it all goes as well as can be expected at a funeral. I enjoyed your film it felt like I was on the journey with you, I have always wanted to go and visit Switzerland but never been there as yet. If you could do some filming in the area where you are from that would be very interesting, I would like to visit the Victorinox factory one day. I look forward to your next film and hope all went well for you in Switzerland, take care, regards Chris.
Yes, unfortunately funerals are always sad but it was great seeing a bunch of my relatives that I don’t see very often anymore. I did film some footage from when I went on a walk in the local area. I’ve not had time to properly look at it but I’ll hopefully be able to put a bit of a video together. I’m definitely planing on filming more in Switzerland at some point, but other trips are planned first! Thanks for the support as always!
I look forward to future films and glad all went well in Switzerland for you. 👍
What a wonderful thing getting to see all those reindeer!
Yes, definitely the highlight of the day!
Wow such a great video, really interesting place. I hope to visit that area soon & will check it out. Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching! It’s a great place to visit. Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Kim, I enjoyed that film thank you, it looks like a great hike on a nice dry day. I don’t like it very much when the trail gets too busy, the same as you, l enjoy setting out very early in the morning, to avoid the crowds. It looks like I will be setting out on the WHW again about the 7th October, so we will definitely be in autumn by then. Hope you are keeping well, take care, best regards Chris.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍8
Thank you! Cheers!
Can't beat a nice day out in the Cairngorms, I did Bynack More a few years ago but couldn't see more than ten meters from the top. The Munro with what looks like two cairns on top is Beinn Mheadhoin, the summit of Ben Macdui is on the right above that small patch of snow. Linn of Dee - Derry Cairngorm - Ben Macdui - Carn a'Maim - Linn of Dee is one of my favourite routes if you're looking for a longer walk, the views of the Lairig Ghru between Ben Macdui and Carn a'Maim are amazing on a nice day.
Yes, I’m looking forward to many more days out in the Cairngorms. Sounds like a great route. I’ve been up Ben Macdui from the Aviemore side but never from Linn if Dee, so would be interesting to explore that route!
Nice 1
Thank you!
Hi Kim, That looks like an excellent place to enjoy a nice day out, forest and beach in the same place is always nice. Thanks for another great film, hope you are keeping well. I am planning to walk the West Highland Way again in early October, I think I will be good to see it in autumn time. Best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
It’s a stunning place especially on a beautiful sunny day! WHW in autumn sounds nice. I’m still trying to figure out a time to finish my last section 😂
Decent munros there.and a good number to" bag."..careful with the midges and...soon you will hear the Haggis calling in their autumn rut. ...Heading up to the Inverness area soon to chase the silver tourist...the salmon( like haggis you dont get any of those in Switzerland) Safe walking on the munros Simon Artley Manchester .....Plenty of time to work through the list of Malt Whiskies.
Thank you for taking the time to write this awesome comment. I’ve already gotten well acquainted with the midges but still plenty of whiskies to try!
Kim, my dog says she wants to come live with you.
Furry friends are always invited!
why Scotland? I live here too but Switzerland is supposed to be such a great place so… why Scotland? 👍🏼✌🏼🖖🏼
It’s hard to put a finger on it but I’ve visited Scotland a few times before moving here and I always just really liked it. I especially love it up here in the Highlands. Just the sense of remoteness and wilderness that still exists is amazing. Also I find the temperature range here much more doable. Summers in Switzerland and Central Europe in general are just getting too hot for me. Switzerland is a beautiful country but it has its own issues and I just don’t feel like it’s the right place for me at this point in my life. Maybe again someday, but also I guess it’s often the country they you grew up in that seems the least interesting!
@@swissgirlinscotland thank you for your reply. I’m from Canada, have lived here 10 years now, and like you I find the weather generally quite agreeable. In fact there is much about Scotland that reminds me of home. that’s not a huge surprise since more than 30% of Canadians have Scottish heritage. very true that for some people - like you and I it seems - leaving their home country is something they feel they need to do, at least for a time. Canada has many great things about it but I’d lived in many places around the country and none of them felt like home. Scotland does, so I think I’m here to stay.
Ledge route is a bit better for views especially on the way up, i did it today even though it rained like crazy and was very windy, i still managed to get decent views. I think the mountain track offers very little in terms of views
I’m excited to explore other Ben Nevis routes in the future and hopefully I’ll have some views with better visibility. Just looked up the Ledge route and it sounds interesting. Another one on my list is the CMD route!
@swissgirlinscotland ledge route after the cic hut is a lot of rocks/boulders, steep scrambling and climbing. There's no established path as such so a bit tricky to navigate, but there are a few areas of erosion, trodden areas and smaller stones indicating people have walked there. The upside is the peace and quiet, i didnt see anyone the entire way up. U would have to start early though, i started at 8am finished at 7.30pm. There is the option of going up ledge route and coming down via cmd or vice versa.
Great video. It is quite high, do you need map reading and compass skills for the walk?
Hi, thanks for watching! This trail is great, as it gives you amazing views but you don't need map reading or compass skills. The whole trail is way-marked and I found it very easy to follow. You can find cairns with way-markers all along the trail. You can see such a marker at the 6:00 mark in the video. However if visibility is poor, you'll have to be more careful as it might be trickier to follow the trail, but on a clear day, this trail definitely doesn't need any map reading skills.
Hi Kim, a great hike there up Ben Nevis, it’s always good to make an early start to avoid the crowds. It’s a shame you didn’t get a clear view from the summit on this occasion, I find it an enjoyable hike on a nice day.
