    Good to see you again on RUclips - you certainly have a few projects to do - looking forward to seeing your sink once you have it in place plus your table and chairs - believe me, those things are just SO nice in the garden!! Good luck with your seeds (hope you have better luck than I did this year - our weather has been crap!!). Take care Kimberley xxx

    Greetings from Far North Queensland, Australia! The intersection of food cost and content quality is never reliable is it!? Every time I teach persuasion/advertising units to young (grade 7/11 to 12 year olds) English classes, I stress ad nauseum that something is worth what the customer/client is willing to pay. Worth in material goods is unfortunately so subjective based on marketing and advertising as opposed to, y'know, more useful markers of value....I'm ranting I know, but you hit on it so well with the Lidl example! I'm no angel when it comes to organic growing, my goals are pretty specific to me, but I know for a fact that just growing something on your own is *generally* better than bought produce or more processed iterations of it (even if only based on the food mileage as you say). Don't stop ranting, I love a garden rant! (as you'll see over on my channel, sorry not a plug just a shortcut to highlighting our similarity😂). Found your channel through Annette's Gloomy Garden channel comments, so glad I did. Look forward to making my way through your vids and will keep an eye out for notifications on new ones :)

    That is a great idea - I have something similar, and put a netting over the tubing - however, we had a rat issue this year and it chewed through the netting and ate all my broccoli heads and a couple of cauliflowers - I was not happy!! So I am going to have to re-think my brassicas for next year.... isn't it wonderful that as gardeners, we learn lessons all the time and have to be ingenious and come up with new ways to conquer these little issues.... xxx

    Hi Kimberley, I so totally agree with you about the food system, and we make 95% from scratch too as the chemicals, colours and additives in packaged/processed foods is so damaging. Frankenfood - I like that term and I am going to steal that from you hahahaha.... Both Hubby and I are sweet tooth's as well - he finds it very hard to give up as he won't eat fruit (or veggies for that matter) - he loves his carbs, which isn't very good for his health...but what can you do? I try to give him the best food possible by cooking from scratch - he will eat some vegetables that I grow in the garden (potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, lettuce cucumber, peppers & chilli....but t find it a bit easier with fruit (seeing as I am growing heaps of fruit trees). I wish I could have chickens, but I just don't have the space to put them in anywhere... Anyway - it was nice to get to know you a bit better through your video.... Rock on and have a fabulous week xxx

    Nice video Kimberley - and Hi Mr Songbird I just love your t-shirt!! With the yellow pear cherry tomatoes - they do go a very bright yellow when they are ripe, your ones are still quite green, so I would give them a couple more weeks. I love the bean archway - Jess from Roots 'n'Refuge is always coming up with great ideas - been following her for years!! With your watermelons, the ones that are on the ground - just a little FYI - put a wooden block underneath them to lift them off the ground so the bottoms don't rot - I didn't do this last year and when I came to harvest them - they looked perfect from the top, but they were rotten at the bottom and no flesh inside, just hollow - I was devastated after spending all that time nurturing them... I didn't end up with 1 good one 😭 It is always nice to see someone's summer garden, when we are in the midst of winter... so looking forward to spring hahaha.. Stay COOL Mr & Mrs Songbird xxx

    Hi Kimberley, awesome vid - sorry to hear that your chicks are being harassed by the neighbours dog... maybe you could leave a friendly note for the neighbour and see what their reaction is? I take it that your property isn't fenced off from your neighbours - we are lucky here as we all have fencing so nobody else's animals can get through - I do wish it would stop the rats from eating my brassicas though - I have lost the lot this year - not happy, but Rudy got to chase a big fat rat around the garden...LOL xxx

    You’re too sweet! I gave up on my starter, for now!! I’m sure I am overthinking it and complicating the process but oh well.. lol Are you allowed to have chooks? You don’t need a whole lot of space…here there are lots of places that don’t allow it unless you have a certain amount of space. Happy Monday! 😊

  • @annettemclean1922
    @annettemclean1922 7 месяцев назад

    Your garden is looking fabulous Kimberley, and look at all that produce - YUM!!! Whilst you are sweating, it was freezing here (around 32F) this morning - I went out into my garden and had a word with my plants saying "I don't know how you survive in this cold - I can't".....hahahaha (Crazy lady who talks to plants LOL).... The chicks are looking a lot bigger now, I wish we had the space for some Chooks (as we call them)... or some rabbits - so I can have a compost crew! We would have to break up and dig out a lot of concrete to do that - which we keep talking of doing - but we both have bad backs, so it gets put on the back-burner until we can afford to pay someone to do it. As you know, I bit the bullet and started a sourdough starter - I don't know if I am doing something wrong - but it's not rising - so I will take that slowly and just keep "feeding" it - it hasn't gone bad or anything, it smells sour and it has bubbles, it just hasn't risen. Anyway, it's Sunday 8.35am here - I had best get on with my chores and the garden (of course) - planting out some more food and flowers today!! Have a wonderful Stay-Cation - they are the best sorts of vacation for us too (I have the month of September off this year - so looking forward to it!!) Enjoy your homestead beautiful lady and give a squishy hug to your hubby for being such a good guy (& musician haha) xxx

    Nice Video Kimberley - it seems like you and I have a similar life "WHY" to doing gardening. Whilst I live in the suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia - my garden is my haven, especially when I am stressed. Just getting your hands in the soil or just putting your hands on plants or hugging a tree - grounding your body.... it's magnificent!! I also garden for my health, even though I started my garden when the virus hit the world in 2019, I have developed auto-immune health issues since 2022 (due to the jab!!) which can still really knock me for a six!! I do wish that we could just pick up our plot of land here and plop it somewhere in the country with more land so I could have chickens, ducks and goats LOL. But we haven't found anything that is suitable and in our price range yet - plus times-a-tickin' and I am not getting any younger, so if it doesn't happen within the next 5 years - I'm OK with that, just make the best of the space I have (not that there is a lot left hahaha). I work full time too, however I am able to work from home, so I get to go out into my garden several times a day to vent any frustration hahaha... Unfortunately, none of my family are interested in gardening - they like to sit under the gazebo and look at the garden - but they are not keen on doing anything (though hubby does build stuff and dig big holes for me).... He can see how happy it makes me, so he is very supportive. Well look at me rambling on - hope you are having a wonderful week - love to you both, and the chickies!! xxx

      That’s pretty much when we started as well-2019/2020. We wanted a new place for years for the same reasons and somehow last year it worked out. We could have had chickens at our old place but as we had neighbors very close we didn’t. Happy Weekend to you! 🌼

My oh my you have a lot of growing space - I love it!! And your chicks are so cute!! I have to say that Apollonia is my fav - it's the "do" on top of the head that makes me smile hahahaha!!
