Greenlaning Wales: Clearing Horseshoe (B*st*rd) and Bomber Lane after Storm Darragh
1x Defender 110 and 2x Defender 90s head up to Horseshoe Lane (B*st*ard Lane) the day after Storm Drammagh. Chainsaws and winches required to clear an area to turn around after discovering it completely blocked.
After making the way to Bomber Lane, find it is in a worse state of affairs than even Horseshoe Lane.

Hello! Thank you for this small but significant piece of history!! I am researching our surname and it is rather interesting to say the least!!
Thanks for commenting, how interesting. Good luck with your research.
Great effort. Although some of these lanes could probably do with a bit of a rest.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. You are probably right; how that would be enforced or regulated though I’m unsure. Not all observe voluntary restraints. Cheers again and all the best.
Thanks so much for doing some clearing as anything is better than nowt, I ride bikes not 4x4 so it's appreciated - shame you couldn't get at least down bomber, life outdoors eh 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It was indeed a shame not to be able to complete the lanes, not sure how you’d have fared on bikes either; probably too thick to pick a route through too. Cheers and thanks again.
Cracking edit - loved the additions, excellent day out buddy massive thanks for the invite - you should be proud of this one
🤙
thrills spills and excitement. Take the seatbelt off when slow off road. incase
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It’s a fair point, though I think people are divided on it: river crossings, absolutely though. Cheers for watching!
Don't forget, it's not off road. These are legal byways.
Well done guys, great job opening these tracks back up for ALL users. 👍
Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated. It’ll take a concerted effort by everybody or NRW to open the lane up fully though. Should be revisiting in Feb - maybe it’ll be open by then…!
THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU for including TWUIDs for these lanes!!!
Personally I detest the Carling switches as they are big, bulky and not that well made if I'm honest, the internals are very poorly designed. The main issue is that it's better to do a earth control circuit for a lot of reasons and you can't do that with these switches generally, they are designed for a positive switch. As most thing are designed to be relayed, negative switching makes much more sense. I have a load of original Def td5/tdci/Disco 2 switches and they can be easily modified for pos or neg switcing and differnt colour ident lamps.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I cant say I’ve had any issues that I’m aware of since wiring and installing, but agree that across the board quality seems to be deteriorating on most things compared to old. Keep hold of those original switches, probably only one way their value is going.
I'd like to get up and do those in our Landy next when we head up to the Lake district. Great video! 👍
Thanks for taking the time to reply; much appreciated. They would absolutely be a fun few lanes to include a route to Cumbria.
i have been looking at this for years, and i am still toying with the idea. i was thinking on moving my CD player up there. Give you a little tip, buy the mud window screen piller trims, which are rounded so you can add your wires easier. i have done, ready for my speaker wiring, to go to the rear.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Long term review: I would rather have it than not, I’ve found it reasonably useful though too shallow mostly. The central console is excellent though - I’ve wired a bank of Carling accessory switches in there for spots, beacons, light bar etc and it looks factory fitted (video coming on install of that if I ever get round to editing it together). The deeper A-pillars were very useful for it. Thanks again and good luck with the CD installation.
done all them lanes including the one where you turned around and my landrovers got the stripes to prove it
Thanks for taking the time to reply! You’re a brave man taking it down that one; fair play to you.
I did exactly the same on Boulder lane a few weeks back. It seems the council don’t want to spend the money to repair the lane so the ttro has been extended (possibly indefinitely)
wow loved the northern lights
loved the video a new part of the country for me I'm sure Alice and Molly enjoyed it too
It would be great if you could share a map of your route.
Many thanks for taking the time to comment. I agree it would be useful; just didn’t have the time for this one unfortunately. What I will do though is add the TrailWise ID to timestamps in the description - at least that way you’ll be able to identity the lane being shown at the time. Thanks again and all the best.
Excellent, thank you 😊
Would it hold a small cb radio ? In the centre, cut out
Hi, Thanks for commenting. Yes, there is a single din panel you can get instead of the blanking plate to mount a CB.
Looks like a cracker of a trip, love the format - cheers!!
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it
Nicely done can I ask what is your sound system and screen? Looking good!
Many thanks for commenting, much appreciated. The screen is a Chinesium Road Top Wireless CarPlay; got it off Amazon a few years ago. It’s been excellent. I wired it to the ignition-live of the lighter socket and attached just with two simple L-brackets. Would recommend.
@@Landy-and-Life thank you! Will go that way as well I think :)
Nice. Looking forward to the next update
Thanks for commenting - much appreciated. Ordered beacons (Strands Firefly) and roof lights (Hella Blades) today. Hopefully find time to record wiring it all up. Cheers again
Love Alice
Great video... Nicely done
Loved your video and subscribe for more adventure and routing. Are these routes open to all 4x4 vehicles?
Thanks for your comment and subscription - much appreciated. You’d have to make your assessment on whether the lane is suitable for a vehicle, but none of these ones are particularly challenging; more just a fun drive. Cheers and all the best.
Great video thanks, I live in the Peak District and didn’t know of all these lanes so thank you, can you let me know what yours mates winch and bumper is in the TD5 90 as looks just what I’m after nice and subtle.
Hi, apologies for not replying sooner - I’d somehow missed you comment. I’ll ask him and find out for you.
A cracking day out. Thanks again for sorting out such a cracking set of lanes... Here's to the next one
Great video - really relaxing to watch!
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video! Must have taken some time to edit down a full day of laning to a short video like this but definitely worth it.
Excellent video showcasing some great green lanes around the Peaks. Thought you were going to get marooned in places!

Cracking install vid bud well done 👍👍👍 those mounts look bob on
Next Video needs sound.
Thanks mate. And yes I agree - will sort something out on future ones. Cheers for the comment.
Nice! Miss that view!
