Paylake Carp Fishing in NC | Roy's Fish Lake, Roaring River | Evening Carp Tournament |

Twenty or more carp in one afternoon fishing at Roy's Fish Lake in Roaring River, NC. We managed to win a couple spots during the six hour tournament on a bait lineup consisting of grits alone... and while we don't typically like to do a single type of carp bait for our lineup, that's just how it worked out this particular day. Most of the fish we caught were in the teen pounds and we also caug...

The Smallmouth Bass and Redeye were HUNGRY on this float down the New River. I really toyed with not even making a fishing video on this kayak trip down a very popular stretch of the New River in Jefferson, NC... BUT, the fishing was too good not to film and I already had the GoPro with me so, why not? (Even though I only had it with me to test the new neck mount I had just purchased.) I must s...
OBX Black Drum Catch, Clean, Cook & Sheepshead Fishing - Oregon Inlet Fishing, NC - Carolina Coast

OBX fishing back in May was rough stuff. A North Eastern wind blew in water that was really too cold for good Sheepshead fishing but we did luck up with a few bites and an awesome Black Drum which we grilled up for a catch, clean, cook. Most of the time we aren't in saltwater at the right season for many Black Drum catches so it's a nice treat when we are able to get a keeper size one in the co...
Pay Lake Carp Fishing in NC - We Caught a $200+ Fish - Roy's Pay Lake - Carp Fishing Tournament

When Paylake Carp Fishing, it is very true that one singular fish can turn the night around. Such was the case on this evening. We caught tons of carp but we needed that one fish to secure us a spot on the board and we got it done, by sheer luck maybe... As per usual, we had a fun evening reeling in fish at Roy's Fish Lake. It has been a minute since we've uploaded a video. We have been out cre...

It wouldn't be Outer Banks Sheepshead fishing (for us) if the wind wasn't blowing 30 mph and the temps weren't abnormally low... BUT, we didn't go skunked and while we aren't a group to complain if we ARE catching quantity over quality, we also aren't going to complain (too much) if we are catching quality over quantity either. None of the Sheepshead we caught on this day, in late May, went bac...

Join us for the first video of our 2024 Spring OBX trip. We left at 4am in hopes of doing some surf fishing before our vacation house was ready. After a lunch break stop at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, we hit the beach for a couple hours. This is almost always a hodge podge day of activity so it might jump around a bit at times. We were just glad it didn't pour rain on us like the forecast has ...

Lake Norman Fishing in the Spring ] NC Freshwater Lake Fishing for Catfish, Perch and Crappie

Lake Norman got quite a bit of rain the day / night before we decided to head down and fish so it muddied up the water quite a bit. After navigating some rough waters on the main body of the lake, we found a cove to hide from the wind and ended the day by snagging a few white perch as...

Is there a best month for sheepshead. Is April/May ok?
@@adamsons2890 it really depends on water temps. Most of the time, April is still too cold for really good Sheepshead fishing. The past couple years June has been the turn on month. We’ve lucked up in May with full limits if the summer water temps roll in early but if those water temps are still cold, you’ll be working for a handful of fish. I would say June is one of the best months for Sheepshead.
@ Thanks for the reply. We’ll be at Hatteras in May. From Ontario.
Puffers are badass
Think we could get a “getting started” video..I want to get into paylake carp fishing but honestly all the stuff out there is so overwhelming…and expensive lol. I don’t plan on making any money but if I could just make enough to pay the entry fees I’d be happy, just wanna catch carp. Just need to know what to buy and what not to buy if that makes sense? And ideally cheap stuff! Thanks in advance!!

What were you catching the blue on the cut bait or shrimp

@@thirdparty8596 thanks for watching
What bait and hooks you use ?
@leiaespadas8862 Long shank #2 and #4 hooks. Mainly squid and shrimp for bait but sandfleas and cutbait work well too.
How many spots do they have at Roy's? I like your videos
They have around 40 sheds... thanks for watching!
Ive been carp fishing in paylakes for 43 years now. Ive fished all over. That looks like a nice pond to go fish at. How many spots can he fish. I like spillmans and mostly fish at joes in east bend. Anyway i like this type of video you did a good job of editing to keep from showing the slower times you are always gonna have n some people dont understand. We are in the process at joes helping to remove some of the smaller fish cause his bigger fish that have been put in are not biting yet and alot of people are going elsewhere. Anyway it looks like you were doing basically the same thing. Cool that you got most lbs n biggest fish. Bragging rights! Lol have a good day might have to check roys out sometime. Os it open in colder weather?
Thanks for watching! They have around 40 sheds at Roy's... I'm not 100% sure what they do during the winter months (most of the time we quit carp fishing when the temps get chilly). I think in the past they have but don't hold me to it.
The song hits hard
Nice catch! What rod holder and bite alarm set up is that? I like it, especially the bite alarms. I currently use a 3-pole rod pod but would love something to stake into the ground and get a greater rod tip angle.
You can get better holders than those. They make them more compact that only hold at the reel and work very well. I have some extras if you are interested. Not sure where you are located. I live in clemmons NC . Anyway if you want some pics let me know. Have a nice day
Not sure what the rod stands are... we've had them forever. The bite alarms are from Big Money Beepers. They've done well for us so far.
What bite alarms are those ?
@@nathancoulter9294 they are from Big Money Beepers
👍👍..............
NOW THAT IS A LOT OF PUFFERS! EM, EM AND I LOVE TO EAT 'EM.
They are delicious.
Never go back here again. If you want good fish an money go to big daddys, pops, silvermoon, lawsons, hill even hilltop better then this mud hole
Mmmm, nah… don’t really care about the money. We break even or win a little almost every time we go to this lake and it’s relatively cheap AND CLOSE! It’s personal preference but I’d rather catch 20-30 dink to average size carp with the possibility of catching a good fish (two nights ago 7 fish were caught here all 20+ lbs and you didn’t win money if you didn’t have a fish on the board over 17.2) than sit all night and catch maybe one or two huge carp. To me, that’s booor-ing. I’ll be honest and completely transparent, we are still learning the tricks and secrets and most of the time we can’t keep up with the guys who’ve been doing it regularly for 10-15+ years because we’re relative newbs with our on/off experience of 3ish years… If we went somewhere like you mentioned we’d be toast and that’s NOT fun. The folks at Roy’s have always been super great to us and having fun while learning a thing or two is what it’s about… for us anyways. Not everyone has the big money mentality. I mean it’s A-okay if you do but it’s also perfectly acceptable to not. Sooo, yeah… I’ll stick with my “mud hole.” 😂
Ah, sand fleas, lol. TY.!
Whatcha using for bait please ?!
Yep, lol. Sand Fleas and then one of us had a fiddler crab out.
👍👍..............
What length is y’all’s boat? Looking at getting one to take down there and can’t decide what length to get
Ours is 23.5 feet. If you ever think you might go offshore or want to take more than four people at a time I would recommend a 26 foot one.
Why cant i see the 26 on the roys facebook? Ive looked for it but nice fish
It’s easier to find if you go to the photos tab on their page. Post date is 4.28.24
Do you ever fish "the hole" over by the S end of the bridge? Some good Trout during the summer! BTW...if U need some good company or gas $ for that Merc...I'm rite down the road!
Unfortunately that hole is not going to be there much longer....We have hammered the fish there in the past, especially on a slack tide. Over the last few weeks the dredge working the area has been dumping sand in it and is quickly filling up
Odd question but do they sell Superior flavorings
They’ve got a few options of Superior there.
@@fishtasy thanks I'm trying to find some hopefully cheaper than Amazon haven't fished in years most of the lakes I knew of are gone now lol
@@barryhess720 not sure where you’re located but David’s Market in N. Wilkesboro has Superior flavoring and tons of other bait stuff.
What were they pulling?
Soybean / fish food on this day
Chow
I know a lot of ponds in NC quit with chow cause of the heat. I usually fish Lawson's or hilltop or prevettes
@@claytonwilliams5738 they still allow chow at Roy’s but we weren’t using chow on this day. When I say fish food I mean like catfish pellets…
nice video! Can you share areas of the Mitchell you were fishing. Especially the last area. Was such a pretty place.
Great catch. One the best biting lakes they are
Thanks, Roy’s is one of our favorites.
Obviously you’ve never been to Wards!
@scottbowman5021 I hadn't but Roy's bite just as good
@@JasonCurry-hd6rv might be a good lake but you can’t fish 4 rods at Wards lol! You catch 50 plus with 2 poles
Roys??? Biting mud hole 😂😂😂
Gotta check this place out .. Are they dog friendly ??
We’ve seen dogs there before.
😊 nice.
Congratulations on the 26.9...nice catch
Thank you!
Where do you get minnows in that area?
Highway 49 Sporting Goods is my first pick and I have also used Bait on 8 as well. Highway 49 is more convenient for us though.
Bright pink works 2
Is chartreuse or white trout magnet worms
Really hate to be that guy in the comments, but that whole section of the Mitchell is a delayed harvest section.. may want to refresh on lure restrictions before the game warden comes along one day. Not worth the ticket. And wet your hands before handling trout, you know that! But nice browns anyway.
Yes, it is delayed harvest and that means single hook, unscented artificial baits (which is what we were using), so I’m not sure what you’re referring to on “lure restrictions.” We get checked by game wardens on this stretch of river as well as the Stone Mountain State Park stream 9 times out of the 10 times we go and always get the all clear on our licenses and bait. As far as being wet, we were as wet as the fish were that evening 😂
@@fishtasy good to hear! It sure looked like a rooster tail at the end. Sorry to bother then
@@trevorknowles6739 you’re all good. It was a rooster tail but the kind with a single hook not a treble.

what time did you start seeing it very good video
We started seeing it around 10pm and it dimmed out for a bit and then about 2am it flared up pretty good again and then came and went throughout the night.
Nice 30lber! 💯
Nice video! Gotta love the chicken of the sea!
That's the truth! Thanks for watching!
Also to fish the pier I would need a fishing pass. Do I still need NC coastal permit ?
I know Surf City pier has a blanket license so as long as you’re fishing on the pier, you don’t need any extra licensing. I think Sea View pier is the same but I would call and ask just to be sure.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. What’s biting now at the pier? Going to plan a fishing trip with our boys next month.
This past weekend a bunch of dogfish, a few black drum, seen a couple flounder come up (but can’t keep those yet), a few pompano are starting to show up, and always mullet (aka northern kingfish), and bluefish are really starting to fire up too. May/June is a great time as long as the weather is decent. I highly recommend watching the pier cams on surfchex.
@@fishtasy Thank you
👍👍.............
What would you say is the best spot to fish for sheepshead from shore in OBX the end of April?
I would say the Bonner Bridge Pier would be about the best place.... I have never been that early so I don't know how the bite would be.... but if they can be accessed from shore....it would be right there.
Were is this lake or what is the name
Roy’s Fish Lake is the name of the pond. It’s in Roaring River, NC
Can’t catch ‘em every time. That’d get boring after a while.
No matter the outcome or the amount of fish caught I enjoy your videos. You've inspired me to get my ass in the truck and go fishing. Thank you.
I’ve seen y’all fish High Rock and Badin. Lord willing I’ll soon be doing some guide work on both.
Do you do any Striper or Hybrid fishing or just crappie/perch?
@@fishtasy I’ll be taking up striper trolling shortly. I plan on pulling Alabama rigs. I can catch anything that swims, fishing is the only thing I’ve ever been REALLY good at. I’m a good paramedic, a pretty fair blacksmith, but I’m an excellent fisherman. Once I get rolling y’all ought come fish with me. I guarantee you’ll like the price! I’m from Denton, NC.
What rods are those?
Ugly Stik Catfish Commando
I know it’s different out in America, are you putting these fish back? If so please look into better fish care, landing mats, cradles, anti septic etc
Yes they are put back into the pay lake. This is technically tournament fishing. We pay a certain amount to fish at this particular ‘enclosed’ pond and money is won for highest weight by winning “pots.” Some of the pay lakes have mats, and some do not (like this one). If a lake doesn’t have the provided landing mats, no one brings their own. The owner of the lake takes care of the fish health… whenever you take the fish to the scales to be weighed, some ponds treat the fish before it’s released but the lakes are maintained by an owner year round. Even if this wasn’t the case, carp are invasive to North American waterways and are encouraged by the wildlife commission to be removed. Bow hunting carp is a popular sport over here.
@@fishtasy it’s crazy to me that a lot of people bow hunt them! As a carp angler from the uk it’s so different to the USA it’s insane! Every lake requires mats and carp care.
@@Alexwillsher I believe it’s largely due to the fact that they are so invasive over here, destroying native fish populations. Pay lakes have just found a way to monetize an otherwise bad situation. Plus, since the pay lakes are all enclosed ponds, the carp in privately owned lakes aren’t interfering with native species populations in the waterways. European carp fishing is similar to how American anglers fish for native trout.
have you guys ever looked into pole/rising float fishing for carp? Japanese and Koreans only use this method. You will catch more and have more fun. check it out!
A bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work .
Amen!
