Engine Spoiler Installation - BMW F900XR
After waiting for almost five months, my engine spoiler finally arrived for the BMW F900XR. While it's certainly not a difficult install (which is why I didn't shoot it start to finish) I thought having a visual reference would be helpful.

Seems BMW is having an issue getting me the center stand I wanted for my F900XR. While I do have swing arm paddles for my Pitbull stand, I'm not happy with how they hold the bike while I'm cleaning the chain. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable storing it for an extended period of time in this manner. Seeing as there aren't a ton of aftermarket accessory options for this bike yet, I'm going t...

Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 - DIY Exhaust Modification
Просмотров 19 тыс.5 лет назад
Want to add a little modification to your exhaust without breaking the bank? Here's a $20 option you can complete in about 20 minutes. It's not on par with an aftermarket, but it does upgrade the "sewing machine" that came from the factory.
Drilling holes in the muffler is rarely a good idea especially with a fuel injected bike and an ECU/ECM. Did you have an internal diagram of the muffler to know which chamber you were drilling into? Any idea how it affects scavengering and performance? I'm not thrilled with the light sound of the stock exhaust, but I will give the Kawasaki exhaust engineers a little credit for knowing what they designed.
Really not a bad sound
Many thanks too you.
Excellent tutorial
Thank you very much.
Hearing in full volume... Need to stop this video 😂
Just a little different than stock, huh? 😉 🏍💨
I should have asked this before: where do you live? How is the breathability with that liner? Im in TX so it's warmer much more often than it is cooler. My office is warm too. Getting close to getting a new pair now and I like these but I have a feeling they'll end up being too warm. Thanks!
I am so sorry I missed this question and left you hanging. I live in Colorado, so yes, much different climate here. I lived in SanAngelo, Texas myself, about 23 years ago... don't know if my opinion would be the same in the summer months there.
Great Video thanks for posting it, do you have to worry about drilling into the baffle when you are drilling the holes, or did you remove it before drilling? Thanks
First...big apology for overlooking this question and leaving you hanging. The only piece I removed was the heat shield and yes, I would be mindful of the depth.
I just got the 2023 model. Every time I try and pair my headset it says that it fails. Any clue why?
Hard to say for sure since there are so many different headsets and each may have its own nuance. I can say, I found it was failing for me until I followed the exact sequence mentioned in this video. I needed the Motarad app first, paired the app to the bike, then paired my phone to the bike. I then had to keep the headset off and turn it on AFTER I selected "Pair New Helmet" on the bike...putting the communication device in pairing mode didn't work. If this sequence doesn't work, you may need to look up some information specific to your headset. Hope it works out for ya. 🏍💨
I've got this bike for almost a year now. It's a cool bike, love to ride it but indeed, these stickers are just ruining the whole concept of the bike. Gonna ditch them too! Thnx for the tip !
I have a 2021 BMW F900R. I thoroughly wash my bike and clean and lube my chain every 600 miles.
Thank mate 🇬🇧
How are you liking them 2 yrs later?
They're still holding up well and getting the job done. They're not as comfortable as my Icon Slabtown or even my older Icon Truant 2, which I could wear all day at work. But, they aren't bad for a full day of riding and walking around wherever/whenever you stop.
Been lookin at the 900xr for a while now and next year il hopefully have the opportunity to get myself one, and honestly, this spoiler is the first thing imma get for it. Changes a lot to the profile of the bike by hiding the exhaust pipe so much.
Night and day difference. Would be ideal if it came standard.
Thank You
Happy to help!
Can i connect passenger helmet and my passenger also can listen the same music
Yes, you can connect a passenger helmet as well. The music they can hear...I would imagine this has something to do with what coms system you use, what coms system they use and how everything is synced. Personally, I have my Cardo and my phone synced to the bike. This allows me to control my music (Streaming from Pandora) with the "wonder wheel" and it shows my music on the TFT screen. That said, if the passenger is also connected to the bike and not simply a mesh connection to your coms device, I would bet they can hear everything you can; music, phone calls...
hi , im federico from italy , you possible send pics of istruction , because i dont have this in the box , thanks a lot
No instructions included, but I go through every step in the video.
Thanks for this helpful video.
Glad to hear it helped!
are this tubless
Yes, I do believe they are.
I love the look of your custom paint. Where did you obtain the tank decals ?
That's a factory paint job on a 2016 ABS model.
Thanks for the video.
You are certainly welcome. Thanks for watching.
are yours the m spec or o spec
Sorry for the delayed response, been a chaotic month for me. I don't recall off the top of my head. I did try to find the paperwork to review but can't locate it since I recently moved. Also, I have since traded in this bike so I can't go look at the tires. Sorry I can't be more helpful on this question. Thanks for checking out the video.
So are you just making a hole through the first layer? Not going into the second layer when drilling?
Exactly. If you do happen to go through, it's not the end of the world, but try not to.
You earned my subscription kind sir. Jesus Christ man! Thank you for doing what most do not do, telling us what size wrench to take. This was easier to get at but normally I’m crawling under a vehicle to the center of it before finding out wrong tool. But much appreciated none the less. Thanks again.
Thanks Allen, I really do appreciate your comments and you taking the time to watch the video. Glad it helped...and much appreciation for the sub.
2 years later, how is it? Also, what are those carbon fiber inserts on the radiator that you have? Thanks, hope to hear back from you
Hey Zac..thanks for checking out the video. The Corbin seat is one of those things that seems to feel better every time you throw a leg over the bike and pop it out of neutral. I have ZERO regrets spending the money on that seat. I can say, however, I have traded that bike in. Try as I might, the dealership demanded I keep the seat on the bike when I made the deal. The carbon covers are just a wrap. I bought some film from PepBoys and wrapped those in about 15-20 minutes. They were on the bike about two years and never gave me any issues. Thinking of doing another video wrapping some parts on my car. But, use a heat gun or hair dryer, don't over stretch it and the results will hold up. 🏍💨
@@colocruiser3239 I just ordered one! Had one on a Bonneville and loved it!
Great tip, just drilled 7 holes and I'll probably need to close 1 or 2, simply amazing the sound
I installed those side bag Dainese ones. The bottom of the left side one somehow managed to touch the rear wheel and damaged the bag. Make sure the seat height is on upper position when you have a passenger. www.martimotos.com/en/dainese-d-saddle-motorcycle-bag-12990
Appreciate the advice. Thanks for checking out the video.
Hello, have you tried them in the rain and on broken or dirt roads?
Jose...first, thanks for watching the video, much appreciated. I did ride in the rain with these and they were fine, nothing notable to report. I did not, and would not, use these on dirt roads as they are a street tire and not designed for that type of use. I'm fortunate I have always lived on paved roads and thus, the dirt/broken pathways aren't something I've had to navigate on this particular bike.
@@colocruiser3239 It must be very good to have good roads, haha, here in Mexico we have good, bad and very bad. I use my bike mostly on the road and in the city, but sometimes I go on dirt roads, that's why I ask this, thank you, good video.
@@josemanuellealmarquez7612 no problem brother. Thanks again for checking out the channel and watching the video.
Thanks, this was a really helpful video. I'm planning on buying one of the chinese knock-offs just because $450 (the part+tax) is ridiculous from BMW (especially since I'm planning to paint it anyhow). Looks like the identical instructions, however.
Glad this was helpful and I appreciate you watching. What color are you planning on painting the piece?
hoooorah!!! my red engine spoiler arrived. I had the dealership put it on for me. cost $177 labor. it looks really nice. have you been riding lately?
Sadly, no. I am having a new house built what should be finished in a little <3 weeks. I listed my house for sale in March and it sold much quicker than I anticipated. I had to move into temporary housing and my bike is currently being stored at a secured location since I do not have a garage. I should be moved and settled, back to riding and making new videos within the next month.
great ref. thanks for posting this video :)
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a reply. Glad the video was helpful.
Hi! What microphone are you using in your helmet?
I use a purple panda. It's covered in a dead cat and tucked into the cheek pad.
you had to wait over nearly 6 months for this part..? yikes! I hope I get mine by the summer.
Yes indeed took between 5-6 months. Granted, I did get this bike one month prior to COVID becoming a global pandemic. I'm sure that had something to do with the delay. Also, I was told BMW refused the first shipment they recieved from their manufacturer. Hope yours arrives much sooner.
@@colocruiser3239 I checked with another f900xr owner who also purchased his bike in March of last year.......he didn't receive his engine spoiler until November!! that is some serious b.s....however....gosh it sure looks amazing once you get it on there. ride strong brother.
@@foolishcoyote. Thanks a bunch...stay safe out there.
how long did it take total...to get that spoiler..? I got my f900xr last month and I'm still waiting.
So you just drill holes you not going all the way to the other side I was wondering how deep you drill and if drilling spot makes a difference, I saw few videos and everyone drill in different spot
Just make sure you don't drill into the catalytic converter and you should be fine. Honestly, not sure the placement of the holes will make a noticeable difference.
Hahah just peel it off with your finger
Depending on how long it's been applied, that's not always an option. But, if that works...rock on.
I'm ordering this same piece for my new 2021 red bmw f900xr. I'm having the dealer put it on b4 I even purchase the bike. also...what seat do you have on yours? I always use the Airhawk seat cushions...they work well and is considerably less expensive then the $500 comfort seat that bmw is offering. nice review. could you do a review on the clutch and quickshifter..? I would appreciate it greatly. ride Strong brother.
i bought a wunderlich queens edition seat from germany for about 400 euros, and is amazing. change the entire experience of riding this beautiful motorcycle.
I agree man those stickers are dog shit, look much better now
Does this effect low end torque?
I honestly don't know, but it doesn't feel like it does much in that regard (Thought I replied to this earlier, sorry for the delayed response)
What do you mean with pair helmet? Can I pair my next xr2 helmet with a paltalk slim from Cardo with the bike ?
Yes, you can connect your bike to your communication device. If your phone is also paired, you can use the wonder wheel to access your music play list (I use Pandora) and your phone contact list. This way you can go into the "Music" tab on your TFT screen and use the wonder wheel on the bike to pause music, skip a song or replay a song. You can go into the "Phone" tab to access your phone book or recent call log and place calls as well. This way, my phone stays in my handle bar bag or in my jacket and I ave full access to my music and contacts. While I can't speak for every communcation device...I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold attached to a Shoei RF1200 and it pairs seamlessly every time. I turn on the bike, wait about 3 seconds and then turn on the communication device.
Agree the XR stickers looks ugly AF!
Thank You for this very helpful video.. I got my Black F900R back in March 2020 too and the Gray spoiler I need is nowhere to be found so I can buy it. It looks great on your bike By the way. Anyway, when I finally get mine I will refer back to your awesome install video Rolando Fresno, Ca
Thank you very much. If you've checked with your dealership and they don't have it, I'm not sure this will help, but you could call other dealers and see if they give you different information. I bought mine at BMW of Denver and their number is 303.755.6400.
Not that I like it a lot but I really don't like the look of it removed
That's what I love about motorcycles, we can make them personally appealing to "us". I may wrap the fairing in carbon fiber this winter. 🤔
ive got a corbin for my cb 500x and it was so hard i had to use an air hawk other wise i could only ride for half an hour at the most. ive got about 1500 miles on it and still using the air hawk. the stock seat was much softer but didn't give me the support i needed. i thought the corbin would be a pillowy soft seat but it wasn't. i hope it gets more comfortable.
I'm not familiar with the seat on the CB500X. I believe the Corbin felt more comfortable immediately and certainly improved throughout the break-in period. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine using the Air-Hawk would keep the seat from breaking in properly, since it creates an air cushion and redistributes your weight. 🤔
Your post was exactly the information I was seeking. I just bought a 2021 Honda CB500X and literally was about to buy a Corbin for it hoping it would be softer than the oem. So thankful you shared your purchase experience with us. I would have been bummed out if my purchase did the opposite of my intended use. They are great looking seats though.
What exactly does the engine spoiler do?
Honestly, it's more of an aesthetic piece. It may provide some minimal protection from items flying up towards the radiator...but mostly just for changing the look.
Corbin seats are the best!!
Did you forget to film the install? WTF?
Hahahaha... the install is literally one bolt.
🔥
Thank you!
Thanks. I need that spoiler
I think it does A LOT to complete the look of the bike!
Very nice, what is the price?
Cost me just under $400, tax and all. The dealership offers customers 15% off everything the day they buy the bike. I asked for that discount since this piece wasn't available until now, and they said yes.
how do you tackle the problem of vibrations? the rod does not look that broad. what is the solution of the same not spinning like a wheel with such small gaskets and washers?
Well, I ended up NOT leaving these on the bike. I took one of the lugs and nuts off and just pulled it out to use it whenever I need the rear stand. That said, if you did leave it on, there shouldn't be any spin or vibration if you tighten up that nut flush/firm again the axle nut. With a hollow axle, the rod "floats" in the void and shouldn't move at all.
