We were trying to live bait at the 40 fathom ledge but it was really slow. So we decided to shoot it down to the fad bouy and try our luck with our only live bait. Fortunately we caught this small Mahi so we ended up making fish tacos for dinner.

Launch a little bit earlier to get some menpachi and aweoweo’s. Couldn’t seem to catch opelu luckily my friends Jerry and Dennis hooked it up with 4. It was a slower day for pelagic’s had a lot of bait balls just cruising around the area but luckily hooked a kawakawa to cover my gas expense😅.

Have been trolling lures since getting the Ali’i Kai, because opelu is usually a bit hard to catch during their spawning season. Now that it’s toward the tail end of the spawning season, we decided to try our luck and was able to catch 2 opelu’s. It was a long half day of trolling and was feeling kind of defeated not catching anything. Luckily on the way into the harbor we landed this Ono, which was such a relief knowing gas is gonna be expensive 😅

My outboard motor died out a few times at 18 miles out, we were fortunate enough that it was intermittent and made it back home . Did some research and found the problem and fixed it.

It’s been a while since I caught something especially after my daughter was born in June. Haven’t gone as much and when I did I couldn’t catch opelu to save my life lol. It’s such a relief to finally catch some opelu and hoping Its up from here so I can finish this year strong.

Good going on the Shibi, nice way to start your vacation. So where is the camera mounted to give what looks like a drone shot of you reeling in the fish?
It’s mounted on the rod holder right next to me. I’m using the 3M selfie stick made by Insta360. It’s designed so you shouldn’t see the stick. 🤙🏽

nice catch! I'll be in Honolulu this summer. I have 16 footer stabicraft. Im bringing it with me to Hawaii. Do you think my boat can handle the hawaii ocean water conditions and do some fishing? how far is it from shore to get to your fishing spot? hope to see you on the water. tia🤙
Not an expert but you can do a lot of different fishing off your boat, you just gotta keep an eye on the current conditions and forecast. I choose days I know I’m going to be comfortable fishing but it’s really up to you knowing what your boat can and cannot do. There’s a lot of fishing spots the key is if you can find live bait unless you like trolling lures all day. Safe fishing🤙🏽

Saw the whole fish while it was in the water but once your friend gaf it didn't see too much of the fish then even when he got on the boat didn't see the whole fish in the boat only part of the head,wanted to really see the fish in the boat and than you can really see the size...looked like pretty good size...Aloha thanks

Homemade, made from a pet food container. You can search up DIY pet food container live well, their usually made for kayak fishing but I just made it to work for my boat. Hope that helps maybe I will do a vid in the future.🤙🏽

One was a Penn fierce 4K which is my bait pole and the second is a Penn Spinfisher 8K
Thanks for posting, if I can give one advanced tip--from 50 years of fishing on the ocean. Turn that backwards hat forward, put a shadow across the face, then maybe when you are my age, you won't have had about 12 skin cancers cut off your face. Just saying, I know the backwards hat looks cool from a jackass point of view.
