Lake Kurwongbah - Nice weather, and the bass ain't bad either
A late start at this time of the year means a very quick paddle! The gates close at 5:30, so you gotta get in early to have meaningful time out where the bass are up past the ski club.

Love your videos. I'm retired and live near Ringtail Park at Clear Island Waters and wheel my pedal powered Mako 10 Riot kayak over to the water. I've caught a few bass (including top water early)over the summer but in the last couple of outings I've caught nothing in April. I have used lures suggested by yourself plus many others.I'm just wondering if you have any good suggestions to go where I can access from Ringtail park. Is this a bad time of the year? (I'm new to this caper of fishing with lures ... but love it) I often go from Ringtail up past Robina Parkway bridge towards the stadium (beautiful place)where I caught a couple and then the other direction near the water front houses . I don't have a 4WD to go other places and my kayak is really heavy to lift up (old) so I just enjoy going around my own waterways.

    • @fishnbits2226

The bass don't really have anywhere to go, but they do move around within the system throughout the year. If they're not hanging around the pontoons in the lower part near ringtail, then you'll usually find them in west lake or south lake (which also holds massive bream). Up the creek is nice too, the edges along the hospital carpark up past the golf course is all solid for trolling or topwater flicks, haven't caught any monsters up there but the cicada has done great numbers.

Keep the lake as it is, less chance of this beautiful and ecologically valuable area from being spoilt (the Kholo bridge area is a good example of an abused natural area). Stocking the lake with top end predatory fish (i.e. Australian Bass and Mary River Cod) for sports fishing, when it has a healthy population of highly protected Australian Lungfish in it shows very poor decision making and management of the lake.

    • @fishnbits2226

I did end up going with 2 in the latest videos! In lake orr i tend to launch between 9 and 11 cassowary dr. Good little park and puts you between two good spots. Launching from the rowing club is another good one too. I've been meaning to give enoggera a good go again, but I've heard it's been pretty hard to find the bass lately. They tend to really bunch up there so if you don't find one you won't find any, and winter is going to exacerbate that. But it's a small lake so i really just need the time to do a full lap.

Definitely a 38mm chubby like the 3B fatdog or jackall chubby. You want to make contact with the bottom so I'd use the deep version just to be sure, it will still bang along in the shallows just fine. As for colour, anything translucent with vertical stripes. If it's dark or the water is discoloured then I'd get something with a bit of flash like a silver or foil finish. Bigger lures like double clutches go well on the trevs and flatties in there.

I just launch at Forgan Cove, it's the only legal launch point in the lower section of the lake. Then i head up the right side, and then to the upper limit of the area. If there's no schools visible I'll then try casting up the bays and hopping lures like switchblades back down. But it can be a bit tricky to find the bass and the weather can make it a mess, so if you really want to get on to bass then i suggest lake kurwongbah across the road. It's much easier to find them in there, just drag some deep divers around.
